Gaming laptops have come a very long way. Why are they still heavily disliked on this board? I'm assuming it's just an old carry over attitude from people who haven't followed development over the years.

boomers, basically
They may have come a long way but they are still more expensive, slower and less robust than the desktop. Unless you need the portability they are objectively an inferior choice.
Most of them are either overpriced, lacking in features, are massive, or have shit thermals. Couple that with the fact that laptop manufacturers actually have the worst customer support too.
>more expensive
generally
>slower
not really
>less robust
expound
heat
Literally every laptop gpu is less powerful than their desktop variant. We've gotten to the point where cpu's are closer.
Gonna get this soon
Worth? I'm thinking about getting one too.
I'm about getting that one too, looks good desu.
Gaming laptops are shit.
They were shit and they are still shit.
If a part breaks like the cover, hinge, power jack, power board, battery, or anything else, or even if it collects dust which is inevitably will or the thermal paste needs replacing, good luck disassembling it without breaking any of the small pieces of cheap plastic they are made of, and that's if you can actually find the parts you need for sale. Gaming laptops are still a meme, even if it gets an 8+ score in self repairability.
It won't last you 10 years without fucking up, not even 5 years in top condition. If you feel like throwing your money away be my guest, I'd rather have desktops that last forever, or at least until the standards become obsolete.
I have to get one for school. Was actually looking at that one. Should I fear the Ryzen? Its 200 more to get the Dell with i7-9750H..
Dont fuck with me, this looks good too.. or are you fucking with me?
I'm guessing it has more to do how Laptop gets hot as fuck when gayming
The new ROG Zephyrus unironically seems pretty awesome.
Not amazing on the GPU side but the CPU is a fucking monster despite barely consuming any power.
If it's the Zephyrus with the Ryzen 4900 then yeah, it's a great buy.
The CPU in that thing straight up competes with an overclocked 9980HK despite being extremely power efficient, good buy for sure.
I hate gaymer gimmicks as much as the next contrarian but that cover light array is fucking rad.
I'd put Bad Apple on it
Don't even try try to speak common sense to zoomzooms, they won't listen.
for the extra you pay you could have had double the power on any pc with quadruple the usage life
That's a great price but 256gb SSD is terrible. The 1tb HDD is only good for old singleplayer games and 256gb is maybe gonna give you 4 modern sized games.
ZENNN 3 COME OUT ALREADY IWANT TO PALY BANNERLORD AND OTHER CPU INTENSIVE GAMESSS AAAAA
They're alright if you actually need your battle-station to be portable (which excludes 99% of NEET Yas Forums. But they're still retarded from a performance/buck perspective, cannot be upgraded or repaired, have shitty ergonomics for actually playing games, have shit battery life, are unreasonably loud or get extremely hot and usually have pure cringe aesthetics. Add to that the fact that actually planning, building and optimizing your own gaming rig is a great and fun hobby in its own way with bragging rights and yeah. Gaming laptops are stupid and for fucking casuals.
Gaming laptops are a contradiction in and of themselves. You simply cannot cram a lot of performance into a small form factor without running into extreme noise/heat/performance issues and shit battery life. Gaming laptops are just a bad idea.
its 3750H
Will be primarily using ArcGIS with light photoshop and transfering VHS tapes.
End of this year at the earliest, but it might be delayed considering that AMD produces its stuff in china and taiwan.
10th gen Intel is coming out soon tho and Zen 2 is still pretty cool, you're not gonna struggle running Bannerlord on either of those.
Fuck off shill op. They are loud as FUCK. This alone is enough to abandon them. And no, there is not a single somewhat silent gayming laptop. They are rocking 50db+ unless you are talking trash specs
>10 years
You wot m8
Why is the assumption always that it's "desktop vs laptop"?
Most people who buy expensive gaming laptops usually also have desktop PCs, they just wanna play at work, in the train or wherever.
If someone's a poorfag or teen and has to choose between those things, desktop is definitely better of course.
Lmao, mine is under 5 lbs with an i9 8 core, rtx 2070, and 32 gb of ram. Nothing personal kid
What does that have to do with anything he said?
The fuck is a 1660?
A card with the same architecture as the RTX cards, but with weaker performance and no raytracing.
Basically an improved 1060.
Damn that’s a sick deal, too bad it’s not a 17 inch
Lmao poorfag cope, take your Jewish plebbit blog back to plebbit.
Might as well ask shit while this thread exists
I currently own a Laptop that I paid something like 400: I'm tech illiterate but I know I have a GeForce 910M. I can just barely not run Dolphin ( The GC/Wii emulator ). I'm looking to buy a new laptop, preferably a rather large one, as I have a 17"3' right now, that would be able to run Dolphin as well as my Internet Browser behind smoothly.
How low can I go for the prices? I'm a bit broke
I only get i7 laptops, and is always objectively bad in heat and performance. Only poor Jews buy amd.
I'd say $800, if you're fine with playing at a very low resolution then you could probably go cheaper?
$950 probably, you want a decent CPU like an i7 9750H and at least a somewhat decent GPU.
>Brainwashed by Jews into buying a gaming laptop that will break down within two years just in time for the new one to come out.
>Calling me a Jew.
Good goyim.
>I want to play games while sitting at a desk
>but I want to pay twice as much as necessary
seems like a pretty stupid attitude that should be called out whenever it's presented
If you spend enough time away from home, like during work or traveling, and you can play video games. Then there's no reason not to have a gaming laptop.
If you spend all day either at home, or at a job where you can't play video games, and you don't travel. Then there's no reason to have a gaming laptop.
I have one, and I've been in both situations.
You just made that story up, delusional kike.
why the fuck did they put the power cord in the middle of the left side like that? it just ends up getting in the way of the exhaust fan on the left. or the ports if you point the cable towards you for whatever reason. why the fuck couldn't they put it in the back or something?
Man I just can't imagine playing on a 15 inch. I had enough trouble playing on a 19 inch.
>the absolute state of Yas Forumsfags
Sure thing buddy. Keep buying the newest $ 2,500.00 Extraterrestrial Sexual Pr3d4t0r 4000 Extr3m3 laptop every other year when your old one breaks down while calling reasonable people building, repairing and upgrading their own PCs jews.
Good brainwashed goyim.
>i9
The biggest issue. Damn thing had me running an AC in Winter to stay cool.
>can only use the one tiny monitor
>shitty keyboard
>lack of ports/awkwardly placed ports
>can't upgrade anything besides maybe RAM
>proprietary hardware
>runs hot and loud as fuck
>3 hour battery life so no portability to begin with
>costs twice as much as a desktop
>le epic gaymer RGB lights
if you actually buy one of these things then please off yourself
i have the same specs but i have an i7 8700k
>5 lbs
>i9
Does it last even five seconds before thermal throttling?
It's for working, not gaming.
>>can only use the one tiny monitor
>Why are they still heavily disliked
bga failure
pc cult still thinks anyone cares about desktops
Gaming laptops are still shit with supbar cooling, small screens and atrocious keyboards.
Also, people who buy them mostly don't care about portability, they simply treat them as cooler prebuilds.
Don't worry it's a Max-Q Optimized (TM) design that runs at 20% TDP for almost 25% of the performance of the desktop version!
>expensive with shit specs
>shit thermals that will kill your PC in two years
Sounds like a great investment OP
modern laptops are for ultra-fags
mil spec old thinkpads or bust.
>"can't do gaymin"
all i play are dos, text adventure games, or roguelikes with the occasional toaster afps. shit works like a charm.
youtube.com
dont buy a gaming laptop you fucking spastics
me? i have one. the shitty rubber dome keyboard broke so I couldn't type the letter E anymore. A new keyboard for this laptop costs 60 dollars minimum, and then you have to take apart 1000 screws to replace it or pay someone else to do it. I'm not paying that for a fucking keyboard, so I bought an external one which I just sit on top of the laptop. Not exactly portable anymore so it's fucking pointless to have
With a laptop you're relying on one shitty chinese component not to break because if it does, the whole chain is fucked. Just get a fucking desktop where you can swap shit out.
to add:
t430's are fuckin cheap and bountiful. comes with a 3rd gen i5, 1600x900 display, easy to repair, tons of mods, an optical drive that most modern laptops don't have anymore that you can also use as an extra 2.5 inch drive mount, has a keyboard light and backlighting, and a fucking SOCKETED cpu. meaning you can put in a 3rd gen i7.
>I have one
which one though?
