Basically it's (and Record of Lodoss war is, too.) AD&D: The anime. It's generally pretty light hearted and doesn't take itself too seriously, the characters are solid and play off eachother well, and anyone who's had to DM will appreciate how much THEIR DM was improvising by the end.
