Long before Konami stopped making games, they were sitting on properties like Suikoden, ZOE, Goemon and DDR. It seriously just feels like the management at Konami wanted to spite the fanbase. Hold onto these IPs and never let anyone else use them, just to give the finger to their loyal fans.

It's not about it being big which it isn't really. The point with Yugioh is that their main demographic target are upper middle class NA and EU. You see tournaments of 2000 people and at least 1000 of those have a deck which in total costs around 500-1000 bucks. Considering that there is no prize money but rather just "gifts" and the cards are printed per pennjes while being sold for 50, 100 and some even 500 dollars it kinda makes sense.

Also no the game is far from dead. Every couple years people scream Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum, Link fuck me but since like 2011 Konami knows exactly what they are doing in terms of card design.
