I replayed those a while back, the only good mission is when the player rescues Price. Whatever semblance to reality MW had when the series started was thrown out the fucking window. The level design is better than that of MW1 / COD4 but the Favelas are an eye sore and only about 3 missions have both: good visuals and level design.
The story is retarded and most of the fun came from MP which was removed, if you are looking for co-op, MW3 was a better co-op game and the campaign was better.
MP wise, it would not hold up today anyhow because MW2 MP was a novelty at the time and it was fundamentally broken.
I do not recall why people hated MW3 back in the day, I had more fun revisiting MW3.

I remember World at War being real good.
I tried Black ops, it seemed fun, MW3 was not bad but the MP was old hat and it was abandoned on PC. I still have good memories of MW3, I played the free weekend on steam and a guy gifted a couple of hacks to troll people because I was playing along with his shenanigans. Basically people called him out and I convinced them otherwise even when it was blatantly obvious he was hacking.
You can hack in MW3 and many other games, no one seems to mind. I think what ultimately killed player's interest was the price tag and frequency. I never tried any f the games post Blops 2 so I would not know how bad it got.
I read Treyarch tried a sci-fi approach with BO3 because they really want to do survival horror, and Activision replied by forcing them to make a MP only game. That is like beating your child because he asked for a box of crayons.
