Most people that complain about media don't consume the media themselves. They rely on said media to keep their brats busy so they don't have to deal with them. I honestly think that most people are just fine with unrealistic/risque outfits as long as they're stylish and not super out-of-place compared to the entire rest of the cast.

Because 90% of the time they make no sense and go against a character's personality, the setting or whatever story is being told.

Skimpy is fine if it makes sense. If the character is meant to be seductive, or she comes from a desert country or water country or something where it makes sense to wear less clothing. Or if she's at the beach or the like. But sadly that's rarely the case. It'd also be more bearable if more female characters owned it, rather then being embarrassed or freaking out anytime someone notices their body. I get that Japan thinks women should be ashamed of their bodies and sex, but those just aren't enjoyable character traits for the audience.

I'd assume it's straight guy who likes girly things and because modern culture forces "if you like X or Y you must be a trans" so decided their trans because of it.
