Name a greater step backwards.
Name a greater step backwards
I can't. It goes from a 10/10 base in SA2 to a 3/10 game. Literally everything is significantly worse. Even the worst levels in SA2 are far better than anything in Heroes.
Lost World and Forces are a much greater step back than Heroes ever was.
>Lost World
Generations was the one before that, right? It's worse than Generations but not like five points out of ten worse.
>Forces
Forces is better than Boom, which it came after.
>counting Boom
Fuck off, it's a spinoff that had nothing to do with anything.
WHAT GOS UP MUST COME DOWN
YET MY FEET DON'T TOUCH THE GROUND.
you're right sonic heroes is fucking great
06?
Taking the extremely tight controls from SA2 and making them slippery as fuck and adding countless gimmicks that hold back level design for combat sections and team mechanics was incredibly stupid.
>Abandoned a gameplay style that would have only gotten better
>Redesigns look like plastic soulless pieces of shit
>Soulless plot
>Worst padding, perhaps ever.
>Undoes a lot of the great world building modern sonic was going for
>Brought back shadow
>Starts the trend of Knuckles just casually not guarding the master emerald
I guess you could argue for 06, but Heroes really fucked up the stuff they were close to perfecting.
Heroes is literally one of the best Sonic games ever you fucking mongoloid.
>Worst padding, perhaps ever.
Using this as a complaint while also praising the Adventure games is the biggest hypocrisy in the fanbase. The padding STARTED with SA1.
Couldn't have said it any better.
>Movie does well, but is ultimately for normies
>Forces was an incredibly boring, and forgettable experience
>Mania milking
gUYs!!! we'RE iN A sONIC rENAISSAnce!! Right?!
Sorry pal but it kind of does count
Pokémon Sword and Shield
SA1 didn't make you play the same fucking game 4 times to get the ending.
The drop from gen 5 to 6 was way worse imo
While SA1, Heroes, and 06 are all totally guilty of this, SA1 is by far the least offensive as each character had different objectives going through the repeated stages, whereas Heroes is just the same shit 3 times over with slight changes in enemies and object placements, and then Chaotix adds random grab bag objectives that all suck.
Sonic is the Scooby-Doo of Video Games. Doomed to retread and rehash for eternity all for the sake of aging fans and the few kids that will will willingly watch or be forced to consume by their parents so they can share an interest.
There's no such thing as two steps back for Zelda. it gets praised no matter what. you could make a game where its just Zelda walking into the woods to drop a big steaming log of shit and then run off as two birds drop to the ground and die from its rancid smell and everyone would be getting philosophical about how the game made them feel and switchlets would be making threads "was it kino?".
pretty sure everyone hated skyward sword once the buzz about it died down.
These any good? After the sheer autism that was the archie comics, these look pretty kino.
sonic adventure 2
>No third entry that improves on the originals
>the start of absolutely soulless postgames
>No Legendary Trio just birds from KANTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>HEY! YOU! REMEMBER... MEWTWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!?!
>Zygarde Never did anything
>Not one Kalos pokemon got a Mega Evolution
>/vp/ laps it all up anyway
>Metroid Other M
>Mario RPGs after Dream Team
Some stiff competition.
This saved the franchise from its slow descent into mediocrity.
The previous entries in the series that weren't a glorified remake of LttP were Skyward Sword, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.
>No subspace emissary/story mode
>Established that as a series standard
>Resulted in soulless world of light
>This saved the franchise from its slow descent into mediocrity.
zoom zoom zoom.
>The previous entries in the series that weren't a glorified remake of LttP were Skyward Sword, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.
i'll take glorified remakes of lttp over a glorified remake of far cry 2 any day of the week.
>>Undoes a lot of the great world building modern sonic was going for
Wait, people actually care about world building in freaking Sonic?
How can you even accomplish that?
No music
No dungeons
Padding up the ass
FETCH QUESTS X 20000
Absolute garbage
But muh ebin open world!!!!
Sure It has flaws like any other game but you can't convince me shit was going fine before this game, Skyward Sword was the most restrictive and padded out Lttp-type Zelda yet.
I like Zelda games primarily for their overworld, the dungeons just break up the exploration. That goes for NES, AoL, LttP, LA, the Oracles and the N64 games. Even Wind Waker to a degree.
It was the late 2000s games that completely shifted the dynamic to be built around the dungeon gameplay instead of at least a 50/50 split. BotW went further than I'd have liked but it's better than the fucking hallway of simon says combat and block puzzles that they had the audacity to call an adventure game in Skyward Sword. It was a step in the right direction.
skyward sword would have been the best 3d zelda game if it didn't have forced waggleshit controls. botw is a zelda game in name only, missing everything that made people like the series while bringing the same generic open world experience that's oversaturated in today's industry.
SS was fucking kino
Excellent pacing, music, awesome characters, bosses, dungeons, art style
Literally a 10 /10 game
B/but le controls!!!
Buy a wiimote plus adapter and a regular white wiimote, the special all in one wiimote plus sucked at synchronization
>I like Zelda games primarily for their overworld, the dungeons just break up the exploration.
then you don't really like zelda games. the dungeons were always the focus.
Zelda was designed from day 1 to emphasize a blend of overworld and underworld gameplay. They didn't start homogenizing that shit into being 100% puzzle focused until around the time of Minish Cap, and kept escalating it from there. There's absolutely a bigger emphasis on dungeons in the Wii/DS era games than the SNES/Gameboy ones.
That's not even a casual observation. It's clearly a design shift that's synonymous with everything Fujibayashi directed prior to BotW. There's a pretty stark difference between the games Miyamoto and Koizumi worked on vs. the ones he had a hand in.
Great Fucking OST
But sega relies too much on their hit OST's to save whatever camel fuck diarreah vomit they shit out. IE SONIC FORCES
>Zelda was designed from day 1 to emphasize a blend of overworld and underworld gameplay.
wrong. zelda was originally conceived as a pure dungeon crawler with a level select screen. the overworld didn't come until later in the development process, and was always only there as a mode of transport between dungeons. this was always the case until botw threw the identity of the series away to chase the skyrim normalfags.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
>step backwards
In some ways, sure.
>stuck to one fucking play-style for the entire game
>world is more reminiscent of the classic games instead of being real world locations and people that clash with the Sonic characters
>more lighthearted
>soundtrack still on point
>they look like plastic in-game, but the redesigns are great and even Sonic in Sm4sh and Ultimate is based on it
And earlier in its development Link was collecting fucking computer chips and time traveling to the future.
Beta content from the games development cycle doesn't mean shit. The final game barely resembled its initial concepts and that's what later games built off of. Ocarina of Time was a fucking tech showpiece for how open and lively they could make the world of Hyrule using the N64 hardware. Majora's Mask is all about the three day cycle and how it influences the NPC behavior in Clock Town.
in general the franchise when it hit 3D but this game in particular illustrates how hard 3D Pokemon sucks
XY is way more egregious, user.
They're showing you what you should do if you see one of the Zeti.
Personally it's half and half. On the one hand, we know it wont get to crazy like the Archie comics, but on the other the plot has hanged on this Zombie arc for so long that even passive fans are getting tired of it. We're all just waiting for Super Sonic to come in and do a cure all, especially since actual named characters have been infected by this point.
SS is the complete opposite and isn't much better. It basically railroads you into its forced story, and the entire overworld becomes tedious after going through it a couple times. You literally fight the same boss three different times. The controls are interesting, but they don't actually do anything cool with them. There's like one spot in Sky Keep where you encounter a lot of enemies and have to actually think for a few seconds how to approach the situation without getting your ass kicked. The rest of the game is either flailing around or Simons Says.
Which is a shame because it honestly has some of the best dungeons in the series.
God that was disappointing. Gen VI over all was just lame
>only 72 new pokemon
>team flare was dull
>because of no third game, Kalos is just Anime France with no substance
>megas didn't become a series stable like previous additions
The only thing it left us with is the Fairy type.
Mania
>Fairy type
>Dragon is too overwhelmingly strong, so let's just balance it with another overwhelmingly broken type
Retarded. Fuck GF.
I know this is a hot take but I really can't remember a single dungeon in Skyward Sword besides the Sandship. I'm not really sure why they get so much praise.
I like the dungeons in the 2D and N64 games because they actually task you to explore the dungeon. They have snaking paths, more than one door to go through at a given time with limited keys, puzzles that trigger changes to the dungeons layout, and gauntlet rooms that make you actually get decent at combat. When I think of a good Zelda dungeons I think of Eagles Tower or the Forest Temple. They take the adventure game mechanics of the overworld and test them in a more confined, dangerous labyrinth.
Most of Twilight Princess and the entirety of Skyward Sword felt like I was going through a sequence of isolated environmental puzzles from point A to point B. They're not exciting at all and the puzzles aren't nearly hard enough to be interesting on their own. The lone exception was the cool timestone shit in Lanayru.
What's your favorite Zelda, user?
This. It's literally just inferior gameplay wise. It's far more soulful than autistic nigger rat conspiracy backstory in a series where the main hero is meant to be about never looking back and holding on to the past. Heroes (in concept) >>>>>>> SA2.
I wished people modded Heroes into something with Utopia/Project Heroes gameplay instead than it would be 200/10
Sonic Heroes is the only Sonic game I've ever actually sat and played all the way through. I thought it was alright.
Play Shadow the Hedgehog but only on a neutral playthrough. It's actually quite good.
I constantly flip flop between Link's Awakening or Link to the Past. I think the prior is a lot more fun for a single run but LttP definitely has more replayability so I return to it the most.
Following those two are Majora's Mask, Wind Waker HD and Breath of the Wild making up my top 5. Breath of the Wilds sequel is almost definitely going to kick it out, that games quest design is atrocious even for an open world game and I can't imagine its sequel doing a worse job.
>autistic nigger rat conspiracy backstory
What did he mean by this?
God, you're my nigger.
>Upset when Sonic isn't cringe and panders to normies
Kys. Autism is the exact reason Sonic should be dead already, but is also why it's still here. Not because he's actually good, it because autismos since the late 90s can't cope and let him die already.
I still think that Fairies, being nature spirits and all, should have been weak to Ice. Ya know, the typing matched with the season that ether kills or makes nature slumber?
Shadow the hedgehog (the game)
What you see is what you get. I'm Sonic the Hedgehog!
>SA1 didn't make you play the same fucking game 4 times to get the ending.
Yeah, it actually made you do it 6 times. 3 are the exact same just with more or less shitier gameplay and Knuckles being passable. The other two were technically unique experiences but were completely difference genres in a Sonic game.
You're right because Ice type needs a fucking bone tossed to it.
Like all 3D Sonic games it had a good idea but very badly executed.
That said you can't go backwards when the previous direction wasn't good either.
SA2 was a good game. I'm sick of you fucking teenager memers saying otherwise.
I'll admit, I'm not a competitive battler, but I'm sure Ice resisting Fairy would be a bonus for all.
>Wait, people actually care about world building in freaking Sonic?
>
>How can you even accomplish that?
Pure, raw, autism. The worse part about the fanbase. To them, it's the only good thing about Sonic. You know, where he's meant to be a platforming video game.
Literally giving anything to Ice would be good. Because it's basically pointless as a type right now. It used to be the dragon-killer, but now Fairy moved in and gave you the middle finger.
>SA2 was a good game.
user, it was literally the second game I ever played. I grew up with the fucking thing.
So it is 100% sincere when I say that going back to it as a functioning adult, it really isn't.
>>Starts the trend of Knuckles just casually not guarding the master emerald
people probably stopped going after it because the slightest touch causes it to shatter into a billion fucking pieces that scatter across the globe in an instant
Sonic 2006
Every FF after X-2 (they keep on stepping backwards in different directions after each game)
Other M
I hate you. I don't say this very often, because it goes without saying for most posters. But you really got my ire.
Knuckles isn't the exact same, the only argument is that he plays in the same parts of levels that Sonic goes through, but these were parts clearly designed for Knuckles, and most of their area can only be accessed by him. And while Gamma's play style is very different from what you'd expect in a Sonic game, it still encourages speedy gameplay with the time limit mechanic, and feels very arcade-y which is suitable for Sonic games. He also isn't that slow either, unlike the mechs in SA2. I won't defend Amy and Big though, the best part of them is that they're short, and not too painful once you get the hang of it.
>but now Fairy moved in and gave you the middle finger.
The type took my girl's job and it can kill her. What kind of shit is that?
>Hey what if instead of one-shotting enemies so you can quickly get back to the level, what if we made enemies massive bullet sponges without making them an even greater threat, just make them waste your time
Reddit response. My hatred was well aimed.
>Not one Kalos pokemon got a Mega evolution
w-what about diancie haha... shes definitely popular r-right????? don't worry unovabros we'll give you audino to make up for it
the only reason I won't fully dismiss Gen 6 is because it had the best multiplayer integration in the series, especially with ORAS adding secret bases back to the mix.
If you mean just the main numbered ones, I think 14 is great.
Lol seething
accurate.
wrong.
Have another one.
>Weavile liker
A man of culture.
can't comment about 14 since it's a MMO.
All I know is that it started out so bad they had to reboot the entire game but have been making god tier Expansions
It's interesting that you're aware of your normalfaggotry, and you can physically reproduce it. It's not often you meet a normalfag who can be scientific about his own retardation.
