Nier is a rare case in which I vastly prefer the western design over the eastern one. Brother looks like a faggot twink for fujoshits and Papa Nier is based as fuck. A character you could truly relate to.

They would have to get a new VA to voice all the dad nier lines in japanese. In addition to the new VA they're already getting to voice brother nier in english. As well this would greatly increase the games file size especially if dual language audio is included.
Just play the ps3 ver if you miss papa nier. Its not like there is any real difference in graphics between ps3 and modern consoles. And if you play on rcps3 you can get 4k 60fps. I guarantee the remaster is going to be same models/textures with some shitty lighting effects or whatever.

There isn't a good reason besides Toylogic's incompetence or SE being retards. If it's the definitive version of the game, it should have both of them. If it doesn't, how will they handle the DLC, where you could play as the other Nier? If they're remastering the DLC content, they might as well throw papa Nier in altogether.

Where do i start with this series? A friend of mine sperged at me when i brought up if i should start with Automata. I'm not too keen on waiting for the remaster and emulating all previous Drakengards. Will i really miss out that much of the plot without all that baggage?

That remains to be seen. Platinum is already confirmed to be revamping the combat. You're likely right, but until we see gameplay there's no hard confirmation of that.

That's exactly what they did for Nier Gestalt's Japanese 360 release.

They're both so sparsely connected that its callbacks to Nier 1 are gonna end up being "so THAT's what that meant" moments if you play them in reverse order.
