Are you people literally saying you have trouble keeping up with very basic terminology?
And why are you sharing that exactly?
It's not that we have trouble understanding it, it's that they're pretentious terms used in those awful "video essays"
"It's not that I have trouble keeping up with it, it just makes me very insecure and angry!"
Sure thing there, buddy.
>close game
>go into ps2 system settings
>set clock forward a week
nothin personell
>ludo-narrative dissonance
?
It's nothing to worry about unless the game is trying to do some meta-fuckery.
What seems to be the problem?
>"""soul"""
They're just words that describe basic concepts. Is it somehow less pretentious to use much more obtuse and longer definitions and explanations than it is just to wrap all that up into one single phrase? Or are you just inbred?
>ludo-narrative dissonance
this is a bigger problem than games can solve without annoyingly restricting the player's actions. By all means, fix it in your "narrative experience" games, but I play games for freedom of motion and movement, not to be constrained because the cutscenes are blathering on about some theme or something.
I know this one is usually all about "but muh peace and war themes while meanwhile I kill hundreds of guys" but the example I always think of when I play games is when sad stuff happens and I can continue to merrily jump around without a care in the world. Why would I want the narrative in the game to change my toolset or dampen my speed? fuck that.
>gameplay loop
The gameplay that you do in a loop, as in repeatedly.
>verticality
Vertical level design/mechanics.
>counter-play
Countering someone's strategy.
>Gamey
Non-diegetic, as in mechanics/visuals/etc exist with little to no justification within the game's world.
>Ludo-narrative dissonance
The story contradicts the gameplay. i.e. You kill dozens of guards effortlessly during gameplay but get captured by one in a cutscene.
game-story mismatch
i.e. when you kill a hundred dudes ez but when a cutscene starts you surrender to one soldier because muh story
kinda up-its-own-ass phrase to describe disconnect between what the cutscenes show you and how the game actually plays basically
like how in gta iv niko's always whining about being forced into crime but then you do a heist where you slaughter like six dozen cops
Ludo-narrative dissonance is the term for the disconnect between what the game wants the player to accept narratively, and what the game wants the players to engage with from a gameplay perspective. Basically, it's like when you can take a hundred bullets to the face while going through the level, but then in a cutscene you get shot in the leg and it takes you out of commission. Those two things make no sense together, and it creates a disconnect, or dissonance that the player experiences.
>kinda up-its-own-ass phrase to describe disconnect between what the cutscenes show you and how the game actually plays basically
I don't see how it can be up it's own ass, when all it does is describe the thing with less words. Unless you think it's less pretentious to say "the disconnect between what the cutscene shows you and how the game actually plays basically" every time you need to use the idea in a sentence.
Yeah thats all really gay. Just open up [engine you won't sperg over here] and start hacking away.
literally what is your issue with verticality
Gameplay loop is the grand overview of what you do in the game. DMC5 gameplay refers to the combat. DMC5 gameplay refers to combat+upgrading skill+mission progression+platforming+side activities etc.
Don't forget the worst offender that started it all.
>content
verticallity is good though
fuck your maps with at best 2 floors
>There are people on Yas Forums that watch those 5 hour long videos on video games
>Content creator
>Influencer
The funny thing is all those terms mean absolutely fucking nothing. I "create content" when I take a shit in the morning. I "influence" when I shitpost on Yas Forums
Devilish
>Beat boss fight easily
>Lose in the cutscene

>cuck

I'm afraid of heights
nothing gets my asshole more fired up than
>collision detection
my fucking god is that phrase the most "I wanna sound smart but don't know jack shit about how hitboxes and hurtboxes work" shit ever
> Gameplay Loop
I hear this one a lot but what the fuck do people actually mean by this, like please give an example of a game's gameplay loop
>pretentious terms
Lol good way to miss his point retard we just think they're not as smart as they like to pretend they are.
Update when?
My penis was a deep violet by the time I was done with the 10 strength run.
So, the use of the term makes you feel so insecure you have to go out of your way and start telling everyone how they are not really smart?
I think I'm still on point here.
youtube.com
listen to this literal basedboy with no muscle mass explain
Those are all just abbreviations used to cut down long-winded descriptions. How would you describe "putting emphasis on the use of vertical elements in level/game design" better than "verticality"?
Quit projecting your insecurities out on others we're judging them based on language that they use. Like when people see your social profiles and see (They/them) I assume.
What the fuck does gamefeel mean
>I am a "journo" who copes with the fear by trying to dominate people. I don't know what I'm talking about though, and can't speak the language, and this makes me very grumpy.
Eat shit and die screaming you niggerloving, assfucking monkey.
You are judging people as inferior based on the fact that they use words that make you feel threatened, kid. Which again, is not something you should brag about online.
The response relationship between action on the controller, and audio/visual feedback.
Not him but you're the one who's insecure.
None of the terms OP listed are pretentious, they all have definitions and utility.
Go back to resetera tranny. I'll judge you as much as I want and I'll watch you cry and seethe like you are now.
> feel threatened
God this is exactly what we mean this superiority complex just makes you people look dumb. It's over analytical and provides zero substance, it's not intelligent to associate fear with everything someone just dislikes. By your retard bizzaro world logic you're afraid of anyone pointing out how fucking stupid and pretentious pointing out arrogant terminology is.
Don't pretend to be two people
Elder scrolls V gameplay loot involves looting and killing, broken up by return trips to town, which send you around as you barter your load through the bottleneck of limited vendor capitol, where you might buy things like upgrades, materials, or potions.
Gameplay loop is also read as "The fun part!" of the game, aka the part where the money is sink into mostly.
Verticality is what Wolf 3d never had.
Counter play is usually said in multiplayer games where there is strategy like rts and mobas.
Gamey is what the people inside the game would consider how the protagonist doesn't have many needs or can do incredible stuff easily and inhumanely.
Ludo narrative dissonance is already explained
No john, you are the demons.
I love how using fairly basic terminology literally makes you screech about resetera and trannies, but you still maintain the belief that you are totally not just insecure as fuck.
And don't be suprised people correctly identify the fear in your posts when you literally call basic terms "arrogant". Also, I think you should at least look up terms like "analytical" or "substance", maybe you should add them to a list of words that make you piss your pants and start calling your parents for help too.
Seriously, fucking grow up. This is beyond pathetic. Start acting like an actual human being for a change.
It's the most annoying term out of them because it originates from programming and is simply a descriptor for the main part of the code. But the way it's now used is to describe an abstraction of the primary gameplay design.
counterplay is specifically the active strategy that counters another strategy, because its not counterplay if I'm not choosing or actively committing to a counter. It's usually used to describe its absence, when the correct play involves a strategy that is degenerate or otherwise antithetical to the core of the game. For example, there's not really counterplay to melee jigglypuff. You either metapick against the pink nigger, or you lose, because of the way ledge game works in melee.
these terms do over analyze and they literally are meaningless and don't add value. These words were used correctly retard. They're real words not words made up by game journalists who don't even play video games.
>I'm mocking you tee hee!
Ignorant and proud.
>This is beyond pathetic. Start acting like an actual human being for a change.
>white knighting game journo speak
Is there anything worse than some nasal-voiced youtube FAGGOT droning on for 40 minutes about a games mediocre story and calling it a "video essay"
Yes. Obese faggot whining about these people on an anonymous website. Seriously, maybe you should check if you are not more pathetic than the thing you are bitching about next time.
>game journo speak
They steal all of their vocabulary from us, not that it matters. It's not theirs to keep, even if they did.
aye that is correct also correct.
thanks for correcting me.
cope
Okay boogie.
>i feel insecure if I say things plainly, I need big words to feel smart.
Academia in a nutshell.
>I love how using fairly basic terminology literally makes you screech about resetera and trannies
Its probably an invasion from these places. Yas Forums is literally the only place that actually bans active brigading, and generally, you have to act a certain way to get that label. Tossing it out this willy nilly with boring, bottom tier shitposting and canned reaction images is just telling.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
>weighty combat
>meaty combat
we don't use that word here
If you have an easier or faster way of communicating this shit, we're all ears, buddy. If you think I type out ludonarrative dissonance because its fun, and I like it when google mocks my inability to spell shit correctly on the first try, you're wrong.
>Yas Forums is literally the only place that actually bans active brigading,
It's the complete opposite you retard you're thinking of reddit.
Wanna feel dumb?
Most games have collision detection, a lot of them don't have hitboxes.
The really pretentious term was Kinesthetic Feedback.
Suddenly Trump getting elected makes so much sense.
>Kinesthetic Feedback
Fukken lol. Sounds like something I pulled out of my ass to pretend to be pretentious to bait zoomers. Like Kinoplectic Ludography.
hi, I realized my life's work is dedicated on games, yet I feel embarrassed about it, so I created a whole slew of terminology so people don't realize I actually mean " the jump man's jump doesn't feel right"
