Is it okay to like DOOM Eternal yet? Or are we still pretending to hate it?
Is it okay to like DOOM Eternal yet? Or are we still pretending to hate it?
It's okay to like things that are bad OP
It won't be ok until the next doom game comes out
How about you form your own opinions tranny
this it's the new zelda cycle
Yeah, it's a good game and some people are only complaining because it's too hard for them to keep track of all the buttons they have to push during combat.
Keep liking it however much you want to.
Who the fuck cares?
It has some upsetting limitations. I dislike how the weapons are weaker, and how ammo is more limited, and so on. I dislike how the game is very heavily forcing you to play a certain way.
That said, when you get a handle on utilizing your much bigger toolset, when you start marching to the game's drum, it can be a lot of fun. It's just that it's harder to get to the fun, and there's less fun to be had, than in Doom 2016.
I know that moving back to Doom 2016 would feel really disappointing now, though. I really like dashing, and the meathook on the Super Shotgun. I just wish I could play a game where I got the meathook AND 2016's double-blast Super Shotgun, where the enemies could be taken down just by weaving around them and shooting them down instead of requiring specific recipes.
Doom Eternal, overall, is great. It just has two flaws that really stick out.
>Marauders are boring to fight and grind the action to a halt for a terrible essentially minigame of walk backwards, shotgun/balista combo, walk backwards, shoot the annoying dog thing, shotgun balista combo, walk backwards, combo, maybe kill something with the chainsaw if you're low, shoot the dog again, shoot combo again, then finish. Whereas every other enemy in the game can be danced around, flanked, tricked and if you're feeling like you don't give a shit anymore you BFG or Crucible the fucker, but nope! Special shield blocks even that so you can't even just get back to the fun. Its incredibly boring and tedious and completely strips the game of its pacing and freeflying action it had before, since you have to be a specific distance to even get him to drop the shield. No pole flip headshots for you, wait at exactly the right paces for the flashing hit me lights.
>Final Battle is a mess of colors and effects and shaking screens and doesn't feel like a big finale, its a massive letdown to just shoot pieces of a thing, and then when the action really amps up you shoot pieces of the thing, again! What was that delay even for?
Other than those two sticking points its great.
Eh, it bored the fuck out of me. I uninstalled that trash after pirating it lmfao.
Doom Eternal is fun, it has some issues. But I think the source of the conflict is the people that refuse to recognize people's gripes with it and act like total cunts about it.
It’s great, ignore the haters
>Pretending
Ignoring issues in a game because you need to justify your purchase is the action of a cunt lad. By all means enjoy DOOME but don't fucking sit there and tell me the complaints are fake when they're pretty fucking glaring.
Classic old fag here. I like Doom Eternal a lot. I'm still a bit disappointed with the linear level design and the convoluted mechanics, but the game is extremely fun and very fast-paced. I loved it.
My final impressions are highly positive.
There is some shit I agree with, like Carcasses being plain unfun, or it being kinda bullshit how far away the Arachnotrons and Mancubi can snipe you from and that it's pretty much mandatory to remove their extra armaments, and while some platforming segments are annoying (like that one jump in Urdak) it's mostly fine.
But some of the other shit they complain about is absolutely fucking inane
>too low ammo!
>whaah why do I have to use my chainsaw to refill
>it's too videogamey!
>why do I have to use all of my arsenal instead of just blazing through everything with SSG and Siege Mode
>urgh Marauders are so hard
this
>A-Am I allowed to like it now?
pathetic
Gotta wait for a newer doom to come out before you can kind of like it. Then when yet another doom comes out, then it will be ok to openly like this one.
Until such a time is here, this one is fucking terrible, and it is suck.
>too low ammo!
You have to be some kind of faggot to defend the guns having such low ammo
>whaah why do I have to use my chainsaw to refill
Funny enough some people don't want to sit through the same animation over and over just to get ammo when walking over ammo drops worked perfectly fine before.
The single player is fine. Battlemode is shit though and probably has about a month of life left in it.
Leaving invasion out of release feels stupid to me. Isn't it a campaign invasion mechanic? What's the point of releasing that after everyone has already finished the campaign?
Your guns are all plenty powerful as it is, even the Plasma Rifle isn't shit now. I think it's even more retarded to defend shit like having a stun bomb for a complete get out of jail card against anything that isn't a boss or 60 shells for the Super Shotgun and trivializing everything.
I want to fuck the genocidal alien goddess.
Same, I just hate how her legs are hidden by that dumb robe
>or 60 shells for the Super Shotgun and trivializing everything
There's a little thing people had back when the first DOOM came out that was used in vidya called self-control. I know these days it's a lost ability but sometimes we would switch weapons of our own volition despite knowing one gun was better just for the fun of it. We didn't need the game to force our hand. The decision was left up to us. In DOOME's world no sword runs in LoZ or knife only runs in RE are impossible, because you're not allowed to favor anything but what they tell you.
I just don't understand the point in low ammo if you have a "get infinite ammo" feature that's always available yet tedious. I'd rather have double the ammo so I spend half of my time interrupting my fight with fodder hunting for the chainsaw. I liked the chainsaw in doom 2016, it was a nice balance between getting more ammo or taking out a big target. You weren't completed to use it on fodder
>why do I have to use all of my arsenal instead of just blazing through everything with SSG and Siege Mode.
You can still just SSG and ballista everything though. By the time you use both their ammo up the chainsaw is ready to resupply you. Why anyone pretends they aren't vastly superior to the other guns is beyond me. Also marauders aren't hard, they just aren't enjoyable to fight, why cant "gitgud" faggots wrap their head around something just being annoying but not difficult.
In saying all this I have a positive opinion of the game, I just think the criticism is valid. Its a good but flawed game.
My only problems with the game are.
>hub only becomes manually re-enterable postgame
>unlockable music albums can't be played during the game itself
>Micro Missiles, Microwave beam, and Shield Chaingun are pointless.
>Unmayker is trash
>First phase of the icon of sin has attacks that are sort of impossible to dodge (namely when he slams his fist on the roof just as you jump UP to the roof, so you basically get punched the second you arrive)
>battlemode is unplayable with lag. With lag the poor slayer literally can't dodge anything and just dies to even regular demon attacks. Hence why it's completely dead already outside the US
>invasion out on launch
>Pairing marauders up with the fucking snakes. Either alone is fine but combined it's asinine.
Guns have low ammo to encourage you to switch weapons more often, with the chainsaw refilling ammo for all guns it's actually quicker than having to find individual ammo sitting about.
Besides that ammo capacity can be upgraded throughout the game and the combat shotgun can literally regenerate its own with an upgrade also, prioritze it if it's somehow a real problem.
>>urgh Marauders are so hard
Marauder's aren't hard, they're one of the easiest enemies in the game when you learn their patterns. They're the only ones who have this pattern and the only ones who's pattern has to be followed to a T, because nothing else besides playing in this exact way works thanks to their shield that apparently can block something that can kill the embodiment of Sin. Even the alien not-an-angel-we-swear doesn't have to use the meathook, its just the easiest way, a fucking actual pattern boss still lets you just flip on a pole and punch the damn thing but not this enemy, and its so damn tedious. Just do the same pattern over and over and don't do anything new like set traps with your bombs or detonation missiles or just use the damn crucible to see a kickass animation, nope, do this stupid ass minigame and call it hard like a predictable pattern with a hit me light is too challenging for a scrub.
I find it hilarious you complain about mancubi who go down with a couple lock on rockets and you can just poke out from behind a wall to shoot and avoid all their blasts, but the annoying enemy who you have to keep running away from in DOOM of all fucking games is an insane complaint.
They should make a mech game desu
Not the guy you're replying to but while people who don't understand how to fight marauders truly are retards, the marauder is still a badly designed enemy by how it interacts with other demons.
Really it's not the marauder itself, it's the marauder paired with any other of the more dangerous demons.
I'm just disappointed after struggling and finally beating the Icon of Sin, it just fades to black and some 3rd person cutscene plays out.
It would have been better if it was like 2016 where you finished the game on a glory kill you triggered and did from the first person. Made it a lot more satisfying. Same with finishing off Senator Armstrong with a Zandatsu you had to hit it for instead of it happening in just the cut scene.
It really is an issue of expectations. Doom eternal is by far the least "doomlike" game in the series. People expect it to be a certain way because of the name and doom 2016 being seemingly simmilar on the surface. Im certain we would be seeing alot less negativity if it wasnt called doom.
The gameplay loop is extremely fun if you are the kind of player that loves to master every mechanic in a game. Using every tool to the best of your ability is very satisfying, but if you dont like playing that way the game is very limiting, its not simmilar to retro styled shooters because there is alot more resource management involved and some people feel like that doesnt belong in a doom game.
You can experiment a little with your usage of weapons, but if you want to for example: only use the SSG the whole time you will be severly punished and the game will become unfun as it wasnt designed for it.
I feel like neither party is wrong. The game definetly is well designed for what its trying to do, but it appeals to different tastes and because it has the doom name people expect certain things, and the people who dont enjoy the design desicions of eternal will not feel at home like they do in more classic retro-styled fps games. (For me Doom eternal is the most fun ive had with a modern shooter in years)
Micro Missiles were fun when you had infinite ammo for them in 2016, you could actually justify using them then. Microwave Beam is just so fucking trash in every single way, imagine eating your ENTIRE fucking ammo pool just to kill one mancubus.
Which retard at Bethesda had the genius idea of having us completely miss the war for earth?
most people here do like it, it's just a few angry autists raging about it.
Sure, with the snake enemies he's a pain and the Go-Nuclear Mancubi make it a damn chore, and the flying fuckers spitting on you is pretty much just as a "You have too much health we need to fix that" bullshit bit of game design, but all of that would be easily mitigated if you could just play the game like you did any other enemy in the game. Even the summoning fuckers are less tedious than him, just because you can actually mix up how you want to approach them and even play with their bullshit teleport to get in some nasty hits since you can guess where he's going. Or fuck just charge the damn thing and hit it with your crucible because this is fucking Doom.
Marauder demands you stand at the exact right pacing away while also pairing it with enemies that knock you away from the range and hey why not throw a green light over your face thanks to the spitters while you wait for his boring ass pattern to replay. On its own, the thing is tedious, with others its just annoying. Its a truly awful failure of an enemy design.
I felt like a spazz playing it just spamming different weapons one after another and jumping around and trying to keep all my abilities on cooldown I dont know I just wanted to shoot some fucking aliens and hop around not this starcraft apm shit
>it's too hard for them to keep track of all the buttons they have to push during combat.
This! I need to git gud
This. Mauraders force you to dance its dance and don't allow for any creativity around it at all with its perfect defense shield. You should have been able to use sticky bombs or grenades behind him to open him up, or give remote detonation a reason to exist.
It's a problem with Eternal's approach, you have to play how the devs want and nothing else, nothing outside the box is allowed.
>her legs
she doesn't have any.
Lower costs. If you were in the middle of the war imagine all the shit they'd have to program in the background, all the people they'd have to model in the streets or army you'd fight with. It's easier to have it set after where everything is dead and unmoving.
>hmmm ultra nightmare doesn't sound so bad I'll just stock up on extra lives during the campaign
>no extra lives
>Khan Makyr having legs
Clearly you did not pay attention.
I think if I had to change one thing about the marauder, it'd be giving it a very distant vocalization that lets you KNOW when it's entered the combat arena.
That way you can mentally and strategically prepare for it, rather than your first warning being your screen turning into dog teeth.
To add to this. Doom 2016 allows you to play like a old school shooter, and glory kills are alot less mandatory. Also forgot to mention that there are def some people that are bothered by the increased reliance of glory kills (the chainsaw) because its a "QTE". I can see that, but personally it didnt bother me. The later fights are extremely hectic to the point that it you cant stop thinking for a second. The chainsaw makes it so that you can plan your next move for a second or two, and you also need to use it strategically, as on higher difficulities you can get one-shot if you do it at the wrong time.
No, it's shit
the only people who say otherwise are poorfags who can't afford a switch, ACNH and online
Luv me SSG
Luv me BFG
Luv me tyrants
Luv me ARC complex and Super gore nest
Hate no ammo
Hate marauders
Hate carcass

Hate Cartoony villains
Hate limited playstyle
Hate linear levels
Hate buff totems
Nuff said
Because last time a game didn't force players to play the more interesting way, you ended up with a game like Vanquish where everyone played it like a generic cover shooter and called the game generic and boring for it, despite the mechanics allowing for much more than that once you got gud.
Supremely low quality bait, have a pity (You)
I honestly see no reason why he shouldn't work like Suped up Pinkies or Summoners, go ahead and have his shield be invincible if you hit it but if we can get behind him then we should be able to do some damage. Figuring out how to trick him and get around him should be the alternative to just following his patterns. Like how its optional to shoot off weapons of an enemy first for some, but if you can figure out a way to kill them otherwise more power to you.
>Hate buff totems
Fuck you, I want a mode where enemies are perma-buffed
>Shield Chaingun are pointless
Fuck you I find it useful for intercepting into Whiplashes
I think the doom hunter was handled well. You can blast his sled at your leasure or you can actively focus on him with the plasma gun.
>he actually listen to the children that shitpost on Yas Forums
you know this board has the most underaged posters right
Go to the HL:alyx threads for the opposite of Doom:eternal threads, their contrarians say they like the game.
The buff is fine. Its the infinite respawn that's lame. It makes actually fighting the buffed demons pointless.
Players don't like to be forced. If people want to miss out on a mechanic then that's their loss. Some people never learn infinite jumping in DMC3/4/5 but it's not held against people, only encouraged that you learn it. Forcing a player to play a certain way and even punish them for not following the template is bad game design. If people want to stick to a shotgun then fucking let them, it's their loss. Forcing people just makes them resent the game for taking control away from them.
I think you forgot this is Yas Forums
nothing is good and everything is bad unless I do it cause I am perfect game dev not based!
"Hey fellow game likers, this game r bad"
Why even bring up Alyx in this thread weirdo.
Agreed, just being able to say fuck it and fight the things at full power might have been fun. Shit, it might even be better that way because those spazzy fuckers are fast. If they took out the infinite respawns I'd probably just fight them, but as it is it's a waste of time so you just run through a lot of red lights until you see the right red light, or just look up where it is online, beeline for it and just play the level like normal.
>or give remote detonation a reason to exist
While I completely agree marauders were the obvious place for remote detonation to shine, I still prefer it over lock on rockets any day.
Microwave plasma, micro missile machine gun and rapid fire shotgun are completely pointless
>this is complete nonsense
you're going to tell me i should just be allowed to fight everything in stealth games, or never have to use blade mode in MGRising? Vanquish fucked up because the safest, most effective tactic for most people is playing it as standard cover based shooter. Eternal fucks up because how they want you to play it just isn't very fun.
Pretending? It IS extremely disappointing, has no content, and is in general a big downgrade from 2016. These are facts, not opinions.
This just sounds like a good way to end up lots of really easy and generic games. Allowing players do the exactly everything means the game needs to be designed around that to, which can limit the potential of harder levels that takes advantage of everything. Imagine if mario had to be designed around people not having to jump if they didnt want to. Limiting players is not always wrong. Doom eternal went a little overboard with it though
You mean tentacles?
I don't like doom period.
Old doom: has very fun baasic mechanics. Just running fast, and shooting things is fun in and of itself. However, its filled with retarded labyrinth maps like this and for every minute you spend clearing out demons, you will spend another ten running around a now empty map looking for a keycard or a hidden switch. Especially fuck E2M4 and the switch at the end to raise the path to the exit.
Nu-Doom: Fucking sucks. The glory kill system forces you to stop in your tracks every five seconds. I want to run around fast while shooting and dodging. Not jog up to monsters and watch the same repeated animation again.
>These are facts, not opinions
Well considering it has more content and is an upgrade from 2016 no, they aren't facts and they are (wrong) opinions. That is a fact though.
then go play call of duty or something
>has no content,
It def has more worthwhile content than 2016. The campaign is longer and alot more varied. Please dont tell me you played that watered down console version of an arena shooter multiplayer.
>aliens
Ditching theological inspiration is gay af
You can like what you want, don't let Yas Forums dictate your opinions for you.
That's what reddit does
This. Doom has always been a franchise for brainlets
dude please post more of these. They are so fucking funny, I love seeing them everyday for years i can't get enough. Please post another wojak
ok i will thanks for liking my meme fellow redditor
There is a reason doom fans has such a bad reputation. They worship a game thats been surpassed a long time ago like its the second coming of christ. Just because its what they grew up with
>Forcing a player to play a certain way and even punish them for not following the template is bad game design
Literally all games do this to varying degrees
