Preferably something that can expand on the world of Splatoon.
Expanding on the platforming from the singleplayer could be good, especially if it means expanded movement mechanics that could be implemented in the actual games. RTS sounds interesting somehow too.

I'd like to see an infiltration-based game, the MGS portion of OE was pretty cool. Just expand on that concept and the whole espionage/sneaking around thing. Make ink tranqs a thing or something.

I'd want Splat 3 over a spinoff but I don't see it happening on the Switch.
Because 2 is still perfectly playable and on the current console, and the team is still mostly busy with animal crossing so a full game is out of the question?
A) It is almost inevitable considering how big the series has become, B) 2 is still going super strong, and C) it would be a good way to inject variety into the franchise and explore other avenues of the world.

Because it would take a quick time to make. Unless they go all out with the spinoff. Like say make a game on the same quality as Octo Expansion by 3 times longer.
2 is very recent, is still immensely popular, and 3 would just segment the playerbase further. People are still playing Splatoon 1 in ridiculous rates to top it off. A spinoff would be a way to get more of the world without needing a Splatoon 3.

Take the Mario and Rabbids engine and make a Splatoon game out of it
Roll around with a squad of Squidkids and Octokids and fight Salmonids
Implement inking the ground as a useful mechanic to enable faster movement, expand the variety of weapons available, and you've got a solid fucking game
I would have liked a continuation of 8's story, but that's probably bias talking. They can easily have her as a story/playable character in 3's solo campaign. Maybe something pertaining to the salmonids would have been cool.

Sonic Adventure 2 style game with Inklings and Octolings going on two intertwining adventures, not necessarily against each other tho.
Inklings and Octolings are two seperate campaigns that are cutscene, level, cutscene, level, etc with boss fights throughout. You then get the final story when you complete both.
Playing the Octo Expansion really made me wish that Splat 2 had "Hero-side" and "Octo-side" stories from launch.
