Second verse, same as the first. What are you guys playing at the moment? What are you looking forward to? I’m playing DQV at the moment.

I’m replaying Devil Survivor at the moment.
Playing pic related. Heard it's short, but I'm taking my time to enjoy it.
Now that's just unfair, user :(
In all seriousness, I might try fucking around with Nocturne's Heretic Mansion when I get back to it. And if I find the motivation to talk to every demon ever.
Then again, precise skill inheritance was a bitch the last time I checked...

I've had persona 5 sitting in my stack of games since it's release. I've heard loads of good things and now I have the time but it's a game you pretty much have to sit down and finish. I don't trust myself to remember all the mechanics and everything if I try to juggle it.
Where do I start with it. I know there's a ton of things you can do to optimize your playthrough. Is there even a point in playing it with the new one coming out so soon?
You'll probably be finished with it by the time I make this post.
I’d say to try and go at it at your own pace. There’s a ton of ways to customize shit to your liking, especially when it comes to the Personas and party members you have at your disposal. Also, make sure to stock up on SP restoring items for the dungeons. I’d also recommend looking up a guide if you get lost.
Persona 5 is a simple game mechanically, you won't forget How to play, the game even does a good job reminding you of how you should fight if you are fighting a repeat enemy.
It's just long, and long to start. When you start it, set aside like 5 hours.
>loads of good things
Ehhh... Aside from the gameplay and aesthetic being at an arguable peak, the story holds up kinda so-so.
>I don't trust myself to remember all the mechanics and everything if I try to juggle it.
Persona as a whole ain't too complicated, maybe save for 1 and 2. As long as you have a grasp on the concepts of Social Links/Confidants, Fusion and elementary stuff like (de)buffs 'n elemental attacks, you'll be fine. Take it easy, per this user's recommendation.
>Is there even a point in playing it with the new one coming out so soon?
Probably gonna be the same deal as Persona 4 Golden, i.e. the QoL stuff and additions are *neat,* but if you want the plain 'n simple experience, playing vanilla will suffice.
Are the 3DS versions for both Devil Survivors worth looking at? I’ve always been interested in checking them out.
Good taste user
Is Parasite eve the most fitting game to plat during these dark times? Besides Resident Evil.
They're both vastly superior to the original versions.
>I’m playing DQV at the moment.
Grow up, Loser.
God I wish we got a remaster already. Or just a straight up port since Square is kind of shit at remasters.
I've been rewatching Digimon Tamers which put me in a digital mood so I got Cyberslueth/Hackers Memory. Gonna start them up soon. I hope you can have a Seadramon because he was always one of my favs.
Based and bestgirl-pilled.
What JRPG should I play next, bros?
>TWEWY
>Radiant Historia
>Golden Sun
>FF4
>SMT4
TWEWY, It's pretty short compared to the others
Also, I wanna replay a Persona game and it's between 2:IS and 4
Probably biased on my end since TWEWY and Radiant Historia are some of my favorite JRPGs out there but I’d say pick either one of those two. They’re both really great and you’ll be in for a good time regardless.
>What are you guys playing at the moment?
Pic related.
>What are you looking forward to?
Hajimari no Kiseki
FF VII R
Trials of Mana
SAO Alicization Lycoris
Brigandine
Metal Max Xeno Reborn
VVVtune
Next Atelier
About to finish first run of SMT: Strange Journey Redux. Have honestly not liked it as much as I thought I would. Some parts were just insanely tedious. Overall it was OK, but don't anticipate I'll play it through again.
Is that one of those Cold Steel games?
Where do I begin with the Y's series? Are the new ones a good start point or should I go way, way back?
I can't afford Doom eternal right now, because my job shut down, but I have Doom 2016 so I can still feel like part of the hype, and I'm having a blast.
Yes.
SMTIV. it's fuckin neato
Bravely Default 2 demo and Dragon Quest XI for Switch. Beat the asterisk boss. Found some sub boss that has like... 70,000 hp. Need to grind out jobs to find a good solution for it.
Sorry Doombro but Doom ain’t a JRPG. Wonder how that would play like, though.
I beat DQ11 on switch, please name another rpg I should play on the console anons.
I wish I could experience this for the first time again. DeSu 1 was a wild ride.
Definitely Golden sun
Same. I mean I COULD buy it right now, but still waiting on unemployment, tax return, and stimulus check
Finished Bravely Default II demo and now I'm interested in playing through 1.
I've never played a Final Fantasy game.
I tried VII and IX and didn't like the combat. Too padded.
I wanted to try XII:TZA but it's optimized like shit and my potato can't run it.
The closest thing I have to experiencing Final Fantasy is Kingdom Hearts (almost all of them) and the VIIRemake demo.
XIII has a great aesthetic but I hear it's dogshit - is it dogshit all on its own or is it dogshit when you compare it to other FF games?
In any case, which FF game should I try to pop my FF cherry with?
Shadowbringers. Emet just dropped some truth bombs on me. Pretty good so far.
Probably will try to finish Tales of Vesperia sometime over quarantine as well.
Ah, didn't know this was a jrpg thread. Allthough a doom rpg actually sounds kinda cool.
DQ5 Hero had a hard life.
How many hours is it? I'm 15 in, do you think I'd be able to beat it before Trials? Also, try out Bravely Default 2 demo holmes.
Not sure when trials comes out but DQ11 is a long game regardless.
>Allthough a doom rpg actually sounds kinda cool.
You're in luck, because it exists.
Last RPG I played was DQ7. Maybe I'll go back to it, but I'm honestly thinking of picking up another DS/3DS RPG and beating that instead. Any recommendations? I picked up Evolution worlds from the last thread too.
It’s cool, man. Hope you enjoy Doom 2016.
If you want to do true final boss you'll have to sink close to 100 hours into it. But final boss and cutscenes after is long time fans fan service.
If you don't want to bother with that then it's probably a 50-60hr game.
if yo didnt like 7 or 9 then you are gonna wanna try the more......experimental ones. FF12 Zodiac is reallt fucking good. base 12 on the ps2 had issues i say hold out to play it for buy it on consoles if you have one. As for 13 it's kinda just shit. and if you are having issues running FF12 then you arent gonna be able to run 13. There is the spin off games like Tactics, hell Parasite Eve started off as a FF game from what i hear.
I enjoyed Octopath Traveler. Some people didn't. Check out the demo if you want. You can transfer the save over too if you decide to get it. Start with Therion or Tressa though for their special skill that let's you rob/buy a town out.
Go back and beat 7 and 9 user or just move onto the DQ series like a patrician.
FFXII. Its on sale atm aswell
never gonna happen SE lost the rights to it or some shit
>You're in luck, because it exists.
go on....
dude dragon quest 11 was over 200 hours for me first playthrough and the only thing I didn't do was the super secret switch-only boss they added
Please stop making fun of my wife Bianca. She DOES NOT have sex with horses.
DQ games all look really boring and I always hear the gameplay is nothing special. Why should I play it?
XIII keeps popping up in these threads for some reason so I sound like a broken record, but it’s a crap game in general. Incredibly linear, the game barely opens up until you’re quite deep into the game, only a select few characters are likeable but not to the level of carrying the shitty story, and the graphics have aged like milk. It’s a horrible entry to start the series with at the very least.
If you don’t like 7 or 9 I can’t see you really enjoying any of the other games. V has the job system which is super fun, maybe do a bit of research into how it works and see if you’d like that. You may enjoy the Tactics series also
Try out TWEWY, Radiant Historia, the SMT games, Etrian Odyssey, and the Dark Spire if you can.
Just the story or the extra stuff as well?
No other RPG has the same sense of adventure that DQ games have.
They’re comfy games. If you’re looking for something other than comfy look elsewhere
Sorry, what was that, user? I was too busy plowing Debora to catch that.
I should clarify turn-based combat doesn't inherently put me off, it's just when you have to wait several full seconds between turns where neither side does anything at all. That's a terrible model. Hell my favorite game of the GCN-PS2-XBox era is turn based: Paper Mario TTYD. More turn-based games should be fast-paced and engaging like that. I also really enjoyed Earthbound, so if any FF games have combat with pacing like that I'll try those ones.
But anyway, thanks. I'll sit back and hope TZA gets a hefty price drop on PS4 soon.
Eh, I don't think I have that kind of patience.
They are solid and well crafted games. Nothing special indeed, but fun enough if you're into JRPGs and want something simple.
Turn up the battle speed
Is Digimon Cyber Sleuth actually worth playing?
I still have 7 installed - you can do that? Shit I'll give it a whirl later tonight.
>More turn-based games should be fast-paced and engaging like that
Persona/SMT (especially Persona 5) has some of the fastest "feeling" turnbased battles i can think of.
>Turn up the battle speed
or you could try that for the old FF games.
>Is Digimon Cyber Sleuth actually worth playing?
my girlfriend linked it. so probably not.
I've been playing through a difficulty mod for the game, it's been pretty fun so far. It makes Psynergy much better and the bosses have been much more memorable.
Liked* it's extra dishonor for me i aint even on a phone. Brb gonna commit sodoku.
>I still have 7 installed - you can do that?
it's buried in the menus somewhere unless they took it out for the pc version which i doubt.
I feel like you’d enjoy Radiant Historia a lot. The combat is very fast paced and is laid out in a 3x3 grid for you to push, pull, and juggle around enemies for additional depth and fun.
Turn up the battle speed to the fastest level but leave the dialogue speed default or else it’ll be unreadable
What's your excuse for not playing the best JRPG in the last 20 years?
Would kill to play something like this besides Strange Journey.
The price
Noted, thanks
I certainly love how it looks visually and that sounds really fun. I'll check it out.
There's nothing wrong with CS if you like digimon. Hackers memory is pretty shit, but Digimon Adventure and Re:Digitize [both PSP] are kino. They've both been fan translated too
>he can't afford $23 for a 60+ hour long rpg with top notch character development and writing.
Definitely TWEWY. The others are great as well but there’s literally nothing like it out there.
Which JRPG has the best story, characters and themes?
i gotta be honest i got zero clue in fuck what that is.
they are the quintessential JRPG series. not trying to be groundbreaking but focusing instead on giving you a good time. Don’t just brush off the series cause “some user said”
Spiritual successor to FF3 and FF5 that is mobile only so practically no one has heard of it or played it.
>twewy
didn't enjoy the gimmicky battles
>SMT
SMT IV was pretty confusing in terms of progression. Interested in Soul Hackers and Strange Journey. maybe DS Overclocked?
>Etrian
Played the demos on the eshop and didn't like any of them, but I respect the mapmaking features they have.
>Dark Spire
never heard of it, so I'll check it out.
If only this wasn't so expensive. I got an OG 3DS but I'm scared of bricking it while attempting to add cfw.
A mobile game. Granted it's not gacha, but it's still a mobile game.
Mystic Quest
see
That kind of question is highly subjective since depending on you ask, one JRPG’s story will be your fave while not being another guy’s cup of tea. Regardless, here are some of my favorite stories.
>TWEWY
>Radiant Historia
>DQ5
>Chrono Trigger
>Persona 2
>NieR
>NieR Automata
>FF Tactics
>KH1
I really liked BoF 3 all round. it's simplistic and all but at the when Rei is like "Nah this cunt dies for Teepo" it gets me every time. And then there is Garr realizing his god's a fucking sham.
>mobile game.
whats it play like?
Playing a few JRPGs at the moment swapping between them
>FFX: trying to get the celestial weapons, it's a bitch and grindy to do, never did it as a kid. Currently trying to capture enough monsters and trying the chocobo training but seems nearly impossible. I gave up on the chocobo race with the chests.
>KH1: Wanted to play the entire series from start to finish.
>Yokai Watch: Dicking around, it's pretty easy but I've heard good things about II.
>FE 3H: Near the end, but trying to max level all to the final level and get all the interactions up.
>DQ 11S: Post "skip", stoppeda bit to play the others. Last thing I saw was Erik forgot his memory and I reunited with Sylvando + rab.
I have a few JRPGs on my 2DS XL + Switch that I haven't touched yet like but I don't want to start ANOTHER 60+ hr game, at least not yet.
I'll probably stop whatever I'm on to play Xenoblade once it release in May.
Radiant Historia has a 3DS re-release. IIRC, you can choose to play without the added content when you start the game, but I haven't actually played it since it came out.
>spoiler
Absolutely based
Alright that sounds good
What can I play on PS4 that isn’t FF or Persona? Might get Dark Cloud for the PS2 nostalgia
