>Reinforcements can move and attack on the turn they appear
Who thought this was a good idea? I was having a lot of fun playing this game on Maddening, dying and retrying, until I got to a map where randos started popping out of nowhere and blowing up units. You can't even count the squares in advance because sometimes the enemy starts their turn a few squares away from the staircase tile.
Reinforcements can move and attack on the turn they appear
To make it worse. Some reinforcements only spawn once you pass a certain invisible line, so you cant plan in advance. Same turn reinforcements are bullshit, my recent playthrough of the Marth Remakes was the most bull shit use of the mechanic.
>My recent playthrough of the Marth Remakes was the most bull shit use of the mechanic.
Do tell.
Yeah
Just use the rewind mechanic. It is dumb bullshit but you also get a ridiculous amount of rewinds.
Here 2 I remember
>Storming Hardin's Castle
>Cleared most outside defenses, now to clear the inner circle
>Ballistas, Paladins, and Generals
>Need to be Careful in order to recruit wolf for the good ending
>Send in my Strongest units to deal with the closest balistas so my squishy units get close
>Destroy them
>All of sudden a wave of paladins come out of nowhere
>My unit kills most of them, but cant survive the overwhelming numbers
>Game over
2nd time
>taking a side route around a castle to make it south for a pencer attack on enemy units
>Just crossing along a river
>Units are safe
>All of sudden wyvern units come from no where
>killed off a cleric and a mage
>Thanks ISIS.jpeg
Fuck same turn reinforcements
This has always been a problem with the FE games. You plan ahead, calculate how much damage you'll receive, save your killing blows for characters you want to level up and generally pretend that you're playing chess, and then the next turn the game puts enemy units behind your lines that you cannot possibly react to.
I've essentially stopped caring about who gets the killing blow, and I no longer chase thieves for bonus chests, and I keep squishies to a bare minimum, because I got tired of it. With the right mentality, you will hopefully have enough margins to deal with it.
*paladins behind you* nothing personnel lord
Enemies popping up behind you is cool as long as they don't fucking attack the turn they appear
I dont understand why IS isnt consistent with Reinforcements units. Most of the time they attack on the same turn but some games have them attack on the next turn
Isn't this usually difficulty-dependent?
Kaga
Same turn reinforcements has been in FE since day 1
What would make it acceptable is if only light infantry and cavalry could attack the turn they show up, and they had a debuff on that turn to reflect the fact that they've just scrambled onto the battlefield to respond to whatever you're doing.
You can rewind time 3++ times per map. How is this actually an issue?
I have been replaying Conquest lunatic and no same turn reinforcements. Difficulty does determine reinforcements behavior in 3 houses.
>Take turn
>Move unit in the middle of the turn
>Whoops it turns out that there are reinforcements go back in time and take the turn again but this time don't move that unit there
>Better hope this doesn't happen again ;)
I think having the reinforcements act in the next turn is the best way to handle it. The player has to quickly adapt to new enemies. While same turn reinforcements is just a luck of the draw some of the time.
>reinforcements can attack and move on the same turn they appear
>reinforcements have PASS
>reinforcements outlevel your characters by 5-6 levels and WILL kill your spellcasters in one hit, so you need to waste a pulse and trip the invisible line while ensuring all of your casters are 6 units away from the spawn
Absolutely terrible design.
Probably because half the time the reinforcements are fliers that cover a third of the map and one shot most units?
I dropped my maddening Blue lions playthrough after that bs. I have to deal these units with pass and trigger an invisible line? Fuck that. Debating whether I should play on casual or not to ease the pain but after playing conquest chapter 10 i realized alot of tension and planning is lost on casual.
You get used to it, just keep going. Beside chapter 4 it doesn't occur that much. The only other BL map it really occurs on is the Invasion of Enbarr, made worse because random monsters and fliers spawn in.
So? You can rewind. I just played Conquest Lunatic. You can spend 8 hours on a map and then get crit by the boss.
I don’t understand why they simply do not just show you what units will spawn in
Yeah I agree that was by far the worst part of maddening. Surprise bullshit doesn't work in what should be a strategy game. You can't plan for shit that appears randomly and instakills you
>Maddening Ch. 5
I found a way to win but
it involves sacrificing that fucking NPC knight so he doesn't trigger the archers and cause the entire fortress to start chasing me
should I do it?
Just leave a man to die?
I'd be okay with that
I demand a fish please!
Nothing will beat those 12 mov wyverns with a fuckton of speed from New Mystery
Yes, Gilbert is a liability, he actively makes the map harder if alive since he just rushed head first into enemy lines and tells the ai to bum rush you.
Save the NPCs. They are chads for being there in the first place.
Here you go little one
3H kinda regressed from Fates in that aspect, among other things
Gaiden is the oldest fire emblem I played so I was impressed by the map design in shadow dragon and New mystery. But damn, those reinforcements are bullshit. Each time I saw a fort I got pissed.
They can still fuck you over though, like that last bunch of pegasus fags in Fuuga's wild ride.
You mean like every other FE game in existence?
Because IS isn't consistent with anything,
Personally I would rank it like this
Conquests> 3 houses> birthright >>>> Revelation.
As a complete package(story, maps, characters), 3 houses does better than the 3ds games imo.
He doesn't even die, there are no consequences for him retreating whatsoever.
3H's map design is literally the same as birthright's
You're talking about ch 5 right? With Sylvains brother and the holy lance? That section where the thieves ambush you from behind really pissed me off. I smartened up and had my casters stay way behind and had Byleth, Yuri, and then on the second round ferdinand take the damage. Worked well.
Just blow them away
An hour ago I almost got fucked over by this cutie's wyvern backup, lucky my boy Niles pull through and dropped her ass before her boys can provide back up. In a same turn reinforcements scenario I would have been fucked.
Anyone else just kinda stopped giving a fuck about durability halfway through?
Fucking
How
Most of my characters are like level 7
Edelchad and Byleth are level 10
My life is pain
I've never been stuck on a map longer than 2 hours outside of conquest lunatic. One exception being the defend chapter in 10 on Hard.
Well the 3ds games do include Echoes and Awakening so that's not really saying much
Ehh it's been a minute since I played birthright but i felt three houses at least had some interesting map design that put pressure on the player.
is this the next step in evolution? will we have our octopus wives?
>the defend chapter
which one? And it's likely you weren't actually stuck on that map, you were just spending most of your time waiting for the enemy and allied phases to end.
>spending that long on one attempt at one map
Well that's what you get for being a slow turtling faggot.
The only chapters in 3H where I struggled were the Reunion chapter (which is terribly designed) and Petra's paralogue (which changes objectives halfway through). And you can't even use pair up as an excuse since battalions are objectively stronger.
End of arc 2. The castle one. It'd just take forever and then Haar would get fucked by thunder magic or an archer out of nowhere.
No I'm very reckless, that's why I get my dumbass killed because one of my guys gets lunged to the other side of the planet and gangraped by 8 ninjas. I was stuck literally all day on multiple maps in conquest lunatic, the ninja rape cave being the worst of them.
You guessed right. Hmm. That's clever. Maybe I'll try that.
I stopped giving a fuck about durability almost immediately because I had to use combat arts all the time to not die horribly in chapters 1-3. The academy gives you money and it turns out that this money is for over nine thousand iron weapons.
I'm literally playing Revelation right now, when does the map design start falling off a cliff? Because I'm on chapter 14 and so far the only badly designed maps were Fuga's wild ride and the ice breaking map. Everything else was just mediocre, like I was playing 3H
Lol just fly up to the boss with a hammer and kill him. You can finish that map in like two turns.
I think it should be context dependent. For example if you're playing a chapter where the objective is to run from the top of the map to the bottom, perhaps the first wave could be stationary for a turn when they appear but after that they should act immediately. Otherwise you could just stand around killing reinforcements as they appear.
That's cheating. On defend maps you have to defend. Unless it's Takumi because I hate him.
So why exactly did they put durability back in if they give you a fuckton of money and constant access to the armory between each chapter?
You still don't want to burn through your uber weapons so basically you're a witcher Harry you have a sword for randos and a sword for bosses and you break your rando sword pretty often
I never played revelation or birthright because I heard they're not very hard compared to conquest lunatic. The story means nothing to me.
Revelation is just shit map gimmick after gimmick. I have played every single fire emblem and Revalation was only one I wanted to drop completely. The map gimmicks are bullshit at worst and a boring slog most of time. The new recuit order sounds good on paper (my tiddy ninja absolutely shoned in that playthrough) but IS was to stupid to rebalance the unit for their new recruitment.
An easy solution for that is a visual indicator that says "fuckers about to come out of here btw they can't attack beyond this range"
Well why didn't they just make those uber weapons breakable instead?
You got time travel, just use it
>I have played every single fire emblem
Which were the top 3 hardest?
