ITT: We praise HL:A for how good it is

Poorfags need not apply.
If you have a valid criticism, welcome.

I will start
I just wish there was more location variety and that at the start of a game we witnesses more oppression from the Combine.

>ib4 game's score is only this high because of valve drones
In this case why Death Stranding isn't 9/10 as well despite being a Kojima's game?

Boneworks does everything Alyx does but better except for presentation and AAA budget.
I like the game but Valve is getting the Nintendo treatment with this review.

This, the fact there is no melee feedback at all IN A VALVE GAME NONE THE LESS is fucking mindblowing

This game looks so fucking good with an Index
How the fuck did they do it

you can hit stuff with your gun

whatever fucking wizardry they pulled to make the pacing in HL1 and HL2 feel fresh with every new chapter is there in hla. it just kept getting better and better. literally spent the last chapter with goosebumps shocked at what I was seeing unfold.

and uh yeah you can fucking dangle along a beam in boneworks, so I guess boneworks has that going for it...

It was phenomenal and there's literally nothing else to say about it.
My criticism would be the existence of the Northern Star level, it was a really boring attempt at survival horror that didn't work for me but was enjoyable to go through any way so I guess nothing is lost.

the reviver was kino especially the fight just before you go up to the substation

I'm so glad they didn't overdo it.
In most other games once they introduce an enemy type you see it all the way through the game. Was worried they would do same shit in HL game but nah, magic is still there

yeah hahah Im glad we spend the rest of the game basically fighting nothing but headcrabs, zombies and 3 combine types
no seriously the electrofucks suck to fight

I mean they introduced antlions that were fun to fight with neat soundtrack to accompany it and it terms of combine firefights I actually wish there was more

I'm not playing the game again until someone mods out all of the hologram puzzles.

I just cannot be fucked to do a single one of those ball puzzles ever again.

I'm just salty they retconned black headcrab zombies and zombine for no good reason
Also black headcrabs don't really do shit anymore, they're just bullet sponges

>Pretending the game is amazing to justify the price tag of the Index
Boneworks looks way more fun desu

the ball puzzles are a lot easier once you realise that you can 'release' the node you have selected and if any red touches it then it doesn't trigger anything. you can start moving the other node if one of them is surrounded.

I was a bit disappointed that I was shitting myself at the sight of poison headcrabs like I was in hl2

That said there's the bit in the northern star where it is absolutely crawling with the fucks and that got me

different user
ok that's a game changer, need to apply it in my next playthrough, i might find it more more enjoyable

Boneworks plays like fucking qwop

kek I've never seen anyone make this comparison, but you're right.

It's a shame thought I've seen how it plays on youtube and I was really excited for it, I followed for a year and now I just can't justify buying it for a full price especially after playing HL:A

>Boneworks does everything Alyx does but better except for presentation and AAA budget
Name one piece of level design in Boneworks that matches anything in Alyx.

and also this game begs for mod support which apparently devs do not want.. kek
Can't wait for HL:A mods tho. I want to wear a headcrab as a hat

I felt the start was awfully slow, prob so noobs can find their VR legs better. at 1/3 of the way in the game really finds its pacing and its great.

I only just checked out a few videos of it online there and I'm surprised at the stark difference between VR and the 2d screen for viewers. Is the Viewers screen low res? It looks infinitely better on my index.

I know you can do that. I just don't care how easy it is - if they are going to restrict ammo that fucking much that I cannot feasibly skip any of them without soft locking the game I want them out. I beat the game on hard and I refuse to do another one ever again.

In a game where ammo is this tight I should feel elated when I walk into an area with multiple ammo caches - in this game however I just thought "oh here we fucking go again" every single time.

the caches are infrequent enough and you have other places to look for ammo. theres some kind of l4d ai director putting ammo around the levels depending on what you're running low on. I've had ammo switch around before after deaths for instance. personally I played on normal and found it challenging enough

>Is the Viewers screen low res?
I think that's just an inherent issue with VR recording

game was great, if not piss fucking easy once you learn the controls

I pirated it and I regret playing it. Valve succeeds at making more glorified Tech demos with a plot attached. Will valve just hurry the fuck up and release Source 2 SDK and let real talent make their games for them like usual

Attached: l_0.jpg (711x438, 38.04K)

are you serious. I must have wasted an entire hour of game time on that shit

embarrassing post.

Loved the gsme, just wish the story was more engaging/interesting in the beginning/mid. Endig made me bust tho

game was great but 95% of the game is quarantine zone ruins with the majority of enemies being barnacles and headcrabs/zombies

The northern star was redeemed when instead of wasting ammo during the escape part, I grabbed a plunger and knocked the head crabs away.

Jeff chapter was pure LUDO

I wish scavenging was more streamlined. Rifling through garbage and drawers gets old real fast.
One thing VR devs will need to be wary about is implementing needless busybody work in the name of "immersion."

I fucking hated jeff, but i loved it at the same time. I killed the fucker at the end

Wait you're telling me retards who sunk $1000 into VR despite it having literally no games are experiencing sunk cost fallacy? No way!

How accurate are those sales numbers? I know Beat Saber sold over a couple million between several platforms, so 500k may not be completely ludicrous but still.

>spend 1500 dollars to play one game
>not giving it a positive review
Anything less would be admitting the truth

stamspy is no longer accurate, ever since valve started privating profiles as a default

Baiting aside, I do think spending a grand mainly for Alyx is a pretty egregious investment.
The issue is that a whole lot of the offerings for VR (that aren't gated by PSVR or Oculus) aren't going to match Alyx in terms of presentation and polish.

How to take the headcrab off?

You can still have rough estimates that are sorta accurate, I think. Even some indie devs talked about depending on how long it stayed on the top seller's list and how many reviews, then those games usually do pretty well.

did you pirate a VR headset also?

I wish Kelly Bailey would come back. I just don't see HL:A's soundtrack reaching such iconic status as Kelly's

I watched mkicefire play through it and to be honest it does look pretty good, but the ai is completely useless at killing you.

Maybe you should play his VR game

gb2 twitter, Notch.

just pull it off

game is absolute bueno. poorfags are missing out.

I don't doubt that there may be truth to the numbers. One site tracked about 300k preorders before launch.
It's just that the ridiculous margin of error that exists for every title in steamdb/steamspy's database makes it kinda hard to figure out objective sales data as a whole.

it's not as good desu, at times it sounds too much like L4D's soundtrack. needed Kelly bailey's magic to elevate it. there are moments where it comes close though

No, I got an Occulus Quest for free though.

Attached: MAN.jpg (730x713, 86.48K)

I think part of the issue is that they're trying to make it adaptive to the flow of combat. In HL2 it was common to get pumped up by a great combat track only for it to trail off in the middle of the battle.

>Occulus
sure you did

So is any criticism being dismissed that the critic can't afford VR?

Attached: 232323.jpg (259x235, 8.32K)

>having literally no games

I would kill for a RE7 VR port for PC.

I feel like a retard buying RE7 for PC after hearing rumors that after the '1 year vr exclusivity ' they would port the vr to PC. Still waiting. maybe crapcom will wake up now that more people have pc headsets

>Beat Saber
>Superhot VR
>Alyx
These are the only good games on that list, rest are tech demos or straight up shit

90% of the games I'd maybe like to play are Oculus exclusives, not sure if I want to support that.

I wish they didn't drop the .357

There's also an Oculus-exclusive port of Minecraft.

seriously, i appreciate how they made holding things feel weighty and how you can interact with everything and use anything as a melee weapon, but the whole game i feel like im a puppeteer for a gmod ragdoll instead of feeling like im the person in the game.

Which is garbage and doesn't even come close to having the amount of mod support real Minecraft does. Just play normal Minecraft and get the VR mod.

I'm very torn on Jeff. On one hand I think all of the scenarios they constructed around him are extremely creative and borderline genius. But about halfway through it I realized how hard it is for him to actually catch you and how safe walking around him is and it lost all tension for me. I wish he did more than walk to glass breaking sounds and idle there.

Boneworks is fun for the first couple hours, after that you grow quickly tired of how frustrating moving your body is and how nonexistent the story is. Gunplay is fun though

But if anything, Alyx is being globally praised because "muh Half Life THREEE3333", it's cool and a fun game but it's nowhere near the masterpiece VR needs

Attached: 1577548801423.png (586x352, 394K)

Okay so it wasn't me imagining it. During the 2 lightning dog fights I hard ran out of ammo for everything and kept running around like a retard and kept finding ammo on enemies I already killed. Only time I ran out though I was RPin and conserving it

This is the vydia equivalent of those 40yo guys in full midlife crisis who buy an old ass second-hand sports car they think looks cool then brag about it while hanging out with owners of brand new astons, lambos and so on.
Just stop, realize you were fooled by brand and company name as you have been for more than 20 years and fix yourself while there's time.

>Elevator is half an inch off the ground
>Retard character refuses to lift his feet over it
>Have to jump to get in it
>Try to place planks to cross gap
>Retard kicks the fucking planks off instead of stepping on them
Whoever thought having physical legs that you can't control was a good idea is a retard.

I really wasn't prepared for it. The first half of it was terrifying for me.

wait how is it that oculus has esclusive?
they don't play outside oculus hardware or they have they own store?
