I think this shit is a myth. Your visual system is already a form of mind visualization, no one actually "sees" your reality, it's all information taken in by your eyes and recomputed in your head. Thusly anyone's brain should be capable or producing imagery inside your head since it happens all the time already.

When I try imagining stuff its like my brain quickly bounces between actually seeing it and then just "feeling" it
If I'm visualizing its like looking through a tube where I can see a large picture but it quickly just jumps to focus on something. And that thing being focused is static, and itll switch between different "drawings" or styles of the same object

When you close your eyes, you still see the darkness. It is an image. It has weight. It is still being processed. Some people can't parse an imaginary image while an actual image still exists within their mind. Only in dreams, when the eyes cease to actively see, do imagined images appear to them.
