Capcom should have dropped out Normal and disguised Hardcore as the normal mode, with the actual hardcore being even harder. The demo was too easy.

Something people never talk about is that REmake ruined Resi 1's perfect level design and made it more linear with the forced first arrow sidequest while the original gave you liberty to explore the mansion from any side.

It's mostly down to Capcom's issues with presentation and not wanting to release a product that looks or feels low quality. This isn't to shit on the games, it's a general issue with the time they were made in and the fact that Capcom didn't actually archive source code or project files till like a decade later. >Resident Evil 1 The highest resolution for this is like 240p, though apparently the HyperVR version is this game's Sourcenext release. The original raw footage for the FMVs is probably lost, as well as the original files where they made the areas for the pre-rendered backgrounds, so a full remaster would be unreasonable. There shouldn't be an issue with putting black bars and borders on the game with options to zoom in on the screen, like the Mega Man Legacy Collection, or the PSN releases of the trilogy, but I doubt Capcom will do that. >Resident Evil 2 and 3 Sourcenext is probably lost despite that version being perfectly acceptable to release. That, and it requires a retranslation of everything, including the main campaign (with attention to detail for stuff like environmental examinations exclusive to just one scenario), 4th Survivor, Tofu Survivor, EX Battle and Mercs, as well as an online leaderboard implementation since Capcom likes doing that.
If we do ever get a version of RE1-3 on Steam, it will likely be emulation of the PSX versions, like the ones on PSN.

No, people talked about that when it came out. It wasn't as viscous as Yas Forums, but there will always be dissent when it comes to a remake of a title in a popular franchise. But, now that REmake is more easily available than RE1 itself and most people in these threads have only played the REmaster, people call it the best game ever, when I feel 1-3 all individually beat it out in multiple areas, and make REmake look pedestrian by comparison.
