is there a comprehensive resource for the lore behind these games? looks like most youtubers who like them are just run-of-the-mill autistic screechers
I got tricked into playing the original by Yas Forums about a year before automata was announced, and went full mongoloid reading about the stage play and audio dramas and shit. even though I don't think the games are amazing, I have a really weird soft spot in my heart for them
by the way, the version number 1.22474487139... is the square root of 1.5
Nolan Miller
There's no point, the lore is all completely retarded. You won't miss a thing except some tiny meaningless references by playing Nier (the original, idk about this new shit)
Thedarkid is probably the best outside of the wiki. It’s entirely reading, but it’s in-depth
Sebastian Roberts
It's one of those series where lore gets progressively worse and time goes on but gameplay gets better. Nothing beats drakengard 1 lore. Nier Automata is still a little better than Drakengard 3 and Nier tho
Colton Cook
Ok but why 1.5 ? Is that number important ?
Connor Campbell
are these games playable subbed? By that I mean are there sections of the game that necessitate complete focus such that you cannot take half a second to read the subtitles?
Landon Gomez
So by Nier 5 we will finally have good gameplay?
Christian Wright
Play dubbed first then do it again in subbed.
Nathan Torres
Do you think Yoko Taro is mocking all of the weird numbering of remakes? Probably a square root since it a remake of only one out of two games, but hopefully there's more content.
no idea, I just figured I'd put it into OEIS to see what came out. sometimes sqrt(1.5) comes up in problems involving distances along the sides of cubes, but it doesn't carry a lot of meaning on its own.
I was thinking maybe the mobile game that got announced will be something like Nier 1.5 that bridges some gaps between the original and automata, so this is supposed to be some kind of intermediate, multiplicatively "in the middle", but this doesn't even have that much significance.
>is there a comprehensive resource for the lore behind these games? By playing the fucking games. Don't rely on Youtubers to fill you in you fucking zoomer.
Drakengard 1 -> Garkengard 2 -> Nier -> Drakengard 3 -> Nier Automata
It's not fucking hard, just play some fucking video games.
it's funny how drakengard has just been completely forgotten, seems like yoko taro got the chance to put all his eggs in the nier basket and went with it. doubt we'll ever see a playable version of 3 sadly
Levi Rogers
Where do you put in the stage plays, books, drama cds, etc?
Thomas Bennett
>doubt we'll ever see a playable version of 3 sadly It's playable at 60fps on rpcs3
Angel Rivera
Drakengard 3 is playable on RPCS3 at 60 FPS with a patch.
Game is still not worth playing though. Lore is cool but the gameplay is worse than Nier.
Hunter Kelly
Wiki, or listen to the actual source material if you're interested. It's all tertiary to the games.
Blake Ward
my only toaster is a mac, sadly. I've played it on PS3, but honestly wouldn't play it again even if it was consistently 60fps
Camden Nguyen
>It's all tertiary to the games No? The novellas are extremely important for the understanding of Drakengard 3
Lincoln Williams
So are you ready to go through the Lost Shrine nine fucking times again?
Henry Garcia
If your PC can run a RPCS3, Drakengard 3 is actually fully playable with 60fps. It runs better on an alpha emulator than the PS3.
Juan Walker
>Drakengard 2 You don't know what you're talking about.
Robert James
>Do you think Yoko Taro is mocking all of the weird numbering of remakes? Considering the Automata DLC was called 3C3C1D119440927, somehow I doubt it
>they made a version for Xbone >not for Switch It's like they don't want to make any money.
Justin Thompson
I really don't know why you guys are complaining in all these topics.
the original game was supposed to be multiplat PS3/360, automata was released on PS4/XBO, the fanbase is clearly on those consoles. I'm not trying to shit on anybody, but this is an absolute no brainer. switch development might be possible since the game runs on nothing, but development time would be much longer
Ian Ortiz
thanks based user
Nolan Reed
It's already on PC/PS4 and now X1. All this "but fanbase is on X" shit is an annoying argument when the game is multiplat. Why limit yourself to only one platform? It's like seeing those nintendodrones cry about DMC HD collection not coming to Switch and how they would've loved to finally try the series even though you can play it on PC or just get one of the many consoles it was released on by then
Asher Gray
Just give me definitive orchestral versions of Song of the Ancients, and a Kaine battle remix, you crazy porn director-wannabe
>why would you want to take a couple of days to get up to speed to the game you actually want to play when you can waste money and/or fifty times as such time playing shitty meme destiny warrior clones ahah you dumb zoom zoomie zoomer le boomer del boom boomie
Hudson Brown
Despite the somewhat rebellious attitude that he has he still needs to meet some standards and answer to superiors while working with a publisher. Odds are even if he wanted to do more Drakengard stuff, Square Enix is more interested in milking the Nier brand name
Asher Fisher
honest question, does the lore make any fucking sense?
I remember reading about some of the stuff, especially the drakengard 1 background for Nier, and found it very inconsistent. Lots of stuff having multiple names, magical rules (shit with pacts) having clear rules that seem important but are then totally thrown out the window eventually
I guess what I'm asking is, is the worldbuilding stuff good or is it just silly goofy ass pull shit, and people really just like reading about it because the writing and characters are interesting. I don't think this is necessarily bad, just need to take a different perspective I guess
Drakengard sucks ass. Dont bother playing it unless you turn on cheats to just burn everything down
Ayden Murphy
first thing I thought of too
Landon Clark
World building is total ass, but it excites autists because once you invest enough time into it it pays off by making you shriek when you recognize obscure reference to thing. The games are like Lost or The Leftovers, the strength of the series isnt the lore but the struggles of the individual characters and the interactions between them.
Andrew Lee
>remastering a perfectly serviceable game and not the clusterfuck that is the first drakengard REEEEEEEEEEEE
>When I drink I make better games, so that’s ok. how can one man be so based
Matthew Jones
I'd say on a base level the characters and main plot carry each game individually. Lore is for autists like us trying to link each game together and guess what's going to happen when the next game is unveiled. I'd say the worldbuilding is good, but it's weird and a little alien, and there are such massive timeskips between each entry that you're essentially looking at an entirely new thing with each game.
John Jackson
I'd say for original Nier you need only to read the translations from Grimoire Nier to understand the larger world and what exactly happened in the end. Everything else (countless short stories, CD dramas and whatnot) is just fluff.
the lore of the series is like schrodinger's cat, it's there but not actually there since the nutcase that writes it is not nearly capable enough to make a cohesive mastermind narrative that is mostly put togheter by others in his stead, drakengard fags predate souls fags by a decade in their perpetual autism of self commiseration and seethe
Charles Turner
plz respond
Robert Diaz
I'd say for Taro the story itself comes first and lore comes somewhere behind it. And the stories are generally self-contained with only slight references to each other. It helps that all games take place hundreds or thousands of years apart. I mean, if not for Grimoire Nier, we wouldn't have even known that Drakengard and Nier are connected.
A lot of stuff in the lore is left intentionally vague (we still don't know what's the deal with Imperial capital), some things just contradict each other (in Grimoire Nier it was stated that some settlements successfully reunited Gestalts and Replicants, and that fact is just ignored in Automata), and a lot things are just hooks for potential sequels (like Crusades from Grimoire Nier). There's also insane amount of short stories, drama CDs, mangas and goddamn stage plays.
But as I said, they all are built from and expand upon the story from the game, not the other way around.
Robert Powell
>analysis >just retells the story without analyzing it Sasuga
Jack Long
I really don't understand the background of the sisters.
so the flower splits zero into the sisters after she tried to kill herself so that the world ending power would be distributed to different people, but why doesn't she have the flower at the beginning of the fucking game when she first confronts her sisters?
