>one movement option lets you move at 5 times the speed of the other >the other can't even outrun zombies who thought this was a good idea?
Other VR games implemented teleport cooldown like three years ago or moved over to smooth locomotion entirely because teleport is bad for designing vidya
>the company trying to make VR mainstream realized teleport is bad >valve needed boneworks to even think about smooth locomotion actually sad.
John Watson
They should throw the teleportation out completely, it feels extremely dated.
John Johnson
It just shows that Valve lives in a bubble. They hyped the shit out of their index controllers tracking fingers. At the same time: >Oculus released controllers which track fingers in a more natural way (although it's more limited) >Oculus perfected the inside out tracking while Valve still can't fix the usual jank with lighthouse and even on Index the 'hand flying away' but is still present >Oculus released literal hand tracking that might make the controllers obsolete I wish Valve stepped their game up because this is not even funny.
Austin Hill
Lets not forget the time when Oculus wanted to divide the emerging VR market by buying out exclusives and locking out their hardware from being used in ways. Valve fucked up in hardware, but Oculus fucked up in business.
Welcome to your shit and stagnant niche market.
Jace Jones
>It just shows that Valve lives in a bubble They truly do. Hearthstone released in March 2014. Artifact released in November 2018. It took Valve nearly 5 years before they tried to break into the card game market.
Samuel Gonzalez
>getting chased by a strider >can teleport behind cover Who honestly gives a shit. I mean really.
Andrew Green
Yes, this is why it's important that Oculus has competition and Valve needs to get their shit together ASAP. Index is basically 5 years old technology with a good screen, Alyx is a 5 years old VR game with good graphics. I'm sure Valve sees themselves as innovators but they're doing a piss poor job while at it.
Ryder Ross
I get sick.
Oliver Lewis
>gesundheit
Jaxon Williams
>press x to magically float in one direction >walk normally Fucking VRtards, lmao.
Robert Gray
Pretty funny how BUGS can't outrun you. I expected to see something like Starship Troopers or same HL2 bugs but they're slower than you. Why game has no run button?
Nathaniel Flores
teleporting is fun though
Asher Harris
because genetic dead ends like this guy
Benjamin Diaz
Most vr games have teleport as an option. This isn't some big discovery
Carter Rogers
Continuous movement is really nice but it's so fucking slow it's just not worth using too often.
Joseph Miller
It's not the good graphics that's important, its the physics engine. The opening drawers and boxes and coordinating them to your movement is hard as fuck to get right. It's still wonky but its better than all the other VR games out there that lets you interact with stuff.
Michael Walker
i played with teleporting, it was fine.
continuous fags are luddites. all the games they play are continuous motion so they expect vr games to be the same. go watch angry joe's half life alyx review. THREE people all used continuous motion, and ALL THREE complained about motion sickness 'ruining their day'. they are so fucking braindead they can't be bothered to acclimatised to actually using teleport to mitigate that motion sickness. incredible display of stupidity
Brody Price
The slow walk speed was definitely really frustrating.
Henry Kelly
>intentionally doing things you don't enjoy I bet you save scum as well.
Continuous motion >feels like you're riding a segway >imprecise at small scales, can accidentally hit tripwires that you never would have by physically walking >one movement speed doesn't allow for natural bursts of movement between pieces of cover, etc.
Teleport >looks like shit in webms
I used both in Alyx but playing it kinda warmed me up to teleport desu (or at least 'dash'). Continuous is mandatory for multiplayer though.
Aiden Moore
if thats the case, why even live? life is full of shit we dont enjoy
zoomers dont want challenges, they want the easy life.
Jackson Reyes
You know you can just use normal controls, right?
Jacob Mitchell
>one movement speed There's slow walking and extra slow walking when you don't push the stick all the way. I personally don't mind the movement system. Stick movement is fine for 99% of the game and you can safely teleport for the last 1% with no problems. Both work just fine
Adrian White
i got motion sick the first two days of owning a headset, everything after that was fine
Eli Johnson
Problem with HL:A is a lot of the interactions don't seem to work when they should, and there's way too much detail in the envoirments you can't interact with. Bottles go through cops, you can't use bricks as melee weapons, you can't even dream of pulling the blankets off of beds.
Carter Scott
The game was designed with teleport in mind, so the devs don't view it as cheating when using it. I agree that normal movement is too slow but I'm assuming Valve made it that way under the logic that you'd never completely ditch the teleport option, and underestimated just how much hate teleport gets.
I played it 90% normal movement, and teleported for back-tracking/platforming. I very rarely used it in combat and only when I wanted to run.
Dylan Carter
Ah, I see it's no longer the hip new thing to whine about Doom Eternal and fill threads with literal non-issues and lies, so now it's Alyx's turn. You can turn off teleport, and you're supposed to fight enemies instead of being a little bitch running away.
Camden Morales
Quite a lot of people are getting sick. I'm actually surprised how non-sick Yas Forums is. After 30 minutes of continuous motion I just want to get that headset off and don't touch it for the rest of a day (and don't try continuous motion ever again if there's a teleportation alternative). And honestly it just feels unnatural. That kind of shit won't go anywhere. Get over it. Teleportation motion is the only motion solution that gameplay is going to be build around if you want VR to become mainstream
How long have you had VR for? Normally people get over that after a week.
Ryan Foster
>You can turn off teleport You literally can't. You still have to use it for jumping, some crawling spaces and the game teleports you up the ladders if you fall down from them.
Evan Carter
>play game without retarded teleporting >get motion sick You have to have really shit genetics to get motion sickness from playing a game. We're not talking about some trash with an FOV of 45 here.
Jason Torres
Surprisingly enough I've been occasionally developing for VR since 2016 or 2017. Some stuff for mobile VR (Daydream) and for SteamVR. It always felt so weird to me that I never really wanted to force myself to "get over it". Teleport just feels really natural and I can play hours without feeling any kind of discomfort or feeling that I'm going to fall (I really hated coming from work and feeling sick for the rest of the day).
Nathan Reyes
I don't understand, teleporting is way more disorienting and nauseating that normal movement.
Brayden Hall
F I L T E R E D
Benjamin Fisher
>really good and light controllers >no sensor setup >inside out is nearly flawless, have to basically actively provoke occlusion for it to break >finger tracking for social VR >standalone for less demanding apps and porn >PCVR through a single thin USB-C cable Honestly the Oculus Quest is pretty fucking magical. If they adress comfort issues and make the framerate higher for the eventual Quest 2 its going to be the definitive VR headset.
they should have changed the teleporting garbage for some kind of jump animation that takes a small fraction of second. That way you would have to walk but if needed you can just jump to a safe point or to reach another surface.
Gavin Thompson
Fuck off, you may be "fine" with teleporting but it's utter shit design and it's because you refuse to get better with regular movement. Go fucking die.
Aiden Sanders
So finally you can have an immersive videogame experience that makes you really feel like you are inside the world, you buy a 1000+$ headset to enjoy it but you choose to hop around like a fucking faggot instead of walking.
Asher Johnson
Walking around your room is immersive. Riding some kind of invisible wheelchair while your vestibular system is clearly saying "dude, you're definitely not moving" is not.
Kevin Evans
This. Skating around is just as retarded. Anyone who wants vr to become more mainstream but should be ignored.
Jose Carter
Your room isn't the size of City 17. Standing while moving around on the analog stick is more immersive and makes more sense than blinking everywhere like its Dishonored.
Aiden Rodriguez
This is correct. That being said, driving the invisible segway moves you through the environment in a continuous way allowing you to appreciate the 3D. With teleportation you're losing a certain level of immersion. The best solution would probably be some sort of threadmill but these are just a meme as for now.
Nolan Hall
>Standing while moving around on the analog stick is more immersive Not really.
Charles Cruz
When did Yas Forums become a haven for teleporting Valve playtester sicklet casuals Get the fuck outta here
Nathan Peterson
So? you don't move either when walking with in regular games. I haven't tested HL alyx in vr but I have tested other games and walking with the stick allways feels better that hopping.
Nicholas Rogers
Took me 2 hours of playing onward to lose VR sickness.
Jeremiah White
Quest is the closest to a perfect headset as for now and its biggest flaw is the strap that caves your skull in. The screen is okay, sure Index is much better but in other regards Index is outdated.
Jayden Ramirez
I assume most of the people praising HL:A are newfags that haven't gotten over it yet and haven't experienced games with deeper mechanics to see how dated HL:A feels after all this time.
Nathan Martin
Guess I'm the exact opposite. Everyone whining about how continuous movement makes them sick and how teleportation is the only is responsible for making VR seem like some gimped option that can't even match current flatscreen games. You're just like people whining about how controlling movement and camera at the same time was impossible when dual analogues were introduced. I remember the early controversy about HL2, how the camera motion was somehow making people sick. Stop holding VR back with your early backwards philosophies. There's a reason most games are continuous movement now, and that's because it works despite a small minority claiming otherwise.
Zachary King
The tp in HLA shouldn't be. Nor should regular movement.
Jayden Hughes
Please understand the soibois have a weak disabled body and can't handle smooth movement but they also want to feel "immersed" so they try. gotta slow it to a snails pace so they can pretend like they aren't genetically inferior.
Jaxson Miller
>. I'm actually surprised how non-sick Yas Forums is. Most of Yas Forums hasn't played the game and is just pretending.
Isaac Rogers
Ordered by immersion: >Walking through a tunnel physically >Driving through a tunnel on invisible skates >Teleporting to the end of the tunnel You literally can't refute this.
Carter Nelson
>I'm actually surprised how non-sick Yas Forums is You're assuming Yas Forums actually has played HL: Alyx t. has not played Alyx
Brody Perez
files.catbox.moe/ssvjcn.webm#t=0.01 the game with HL2's 150 units movement speed, and an encounter with a few more Combine spawned in. probably a good idea of what this game could be like once we can start making maps and shit.
Logan Gomez
this game is so fun bros, im going for the gnome achievement now
Joseph Lee
Some of us actually want vr to become mainstream and y'know, have AAA games developed for it. Even if you assume that everyone has the ability to develop vr legs (not proven), companies don't want to put money into a game in which you can't play day 1. How are you faggots so out of touch?
Noah Foster
This is true. HL2 for XBOX was one of the first FPS games that introduced the modern movement on gamepad and people were complaining to hell about it.
Jason Ross
This is basically how I play. Mostly smooth loco with teleports for effect. I like to think they're little jumps/rolls that alyx is doing
