Hard to say at the present, but I think the events and characters of RE7 will end up being dropped and ignored.
I really think they need a team to sit down and plan out the arc of several games at once. Since RE3, this series has been a constant mess of every game having its little episode, with its own Saturday morning villains who all conveniently die before the next episode, with all of their plans tidily foiled.
The reboots are a chance to fix it but they probably won't plan ahead properly.

Helena is quantifiably the worst girl in the entire series. Angela clearly had her lips and boobs done and is faker than Ada. Ashley is his boss' daughter and you don't dip your pen in the company ink. Leon respects Claire as a fellow Raccoon City survivor, plus the younger sister of a S.T.A.R.S. member who would be his superior if he actually got a job at RPD.
If you think about it rationally, Ada was the only choice he ever had.
