Doom 64

What went wrong?

doom is for casuals

I like the heavier emphasis on map exploration, though that's probably just a means to deal with the n64's limited number of enemies at once. Probably isn't the greatest for replay value as a result. Its soundtrack is one of the best, but I grew up with the PS1 Doom ports and that style will always be Doom's music to me.

Why is the official port so fucking awful? The GZDoom version is infinitely better.

Nothing. Enjoyed it better than Doom Eternal.

It's a good port, though.

because the original is awful. this game is massively overrated

the controller.
Nobody even played this game until EX came out.

It had an emphasis on atmosphere and "cinematic", which gave levels where you are stopped for a few seconds to see a shitty block of polygons moving into another. But thankfully it's pretty rare.

Except that, nothing. It's a great game.

Stiff competion on the n64 back in 97.
>star fox 64
>war gods
>mystical ninja
>diddy kong racing
>bomberman 64
>chameleon twist
>blast corps
>goldeneye
>turok
>yoshi's story
Mom and Dad would only be down for only so many games a year. Couldn't waste a slot on a game that I could play on the family computer.

Souless.
I have better sensations with doom on snes.

The port is fucking trash. Binding your keys is fucking retarded (Why does it swap between two sets as you're binding them)
and the mouse input is fucking trash.
Its the worst doom port I've ever fucking seen

No way, 64 has the most consistently good levels of all the Dooms.

>>goldeneye
that game is terrible. DOOM 64 is leaps and bounds better than that piece of shit.

Works fine on my machine.

It's funny how all those titles combined aren't even near titles like MGS, TEKKEN 3, GT, SOUL CALIBER, I could go on, but you get the gist.

Is this worth $4.99 sonybux?

>Its soundtrack is one of the best
Same with Quake 64. Aubrey Hodges did a wonderful job

it objectively does not, but sure - continue to lie because you got btfo

I bet lot of people thought it's just a port of original Doom on N64 and didn't bother to even inspect the game box.

It literally does. Aiming works perfectly, and I have all of my keys bound. The fov slider alone makes it better than EX.

Nice cope post, faggot nigger

>worst lost souls and Pain Elementals in the series
>too many "what the fuck did this switch do" moments
>Unmaker removes all the challenge from the final boss

Other than that, it's great

The mouse sensitivity options are non-existent you colosal faggot, its just a slider. Since you've clearly demonstrated you're just a trash faggot that is awful at games and hasn't even recognised the bad mouse settings, I can discard your opinion on this since you clearly are a mega casual retard.
the only cope here is you, you're responding with a pathetic whine because you got btfo

>*tips fedora*

No. Just pirate it like a chad.

bait more

>mouse input is fucking trash
100% on your end as it runs almost identically to GZ and Crispy for me, with the exception that it’s a locked 144hz so it feels just that extra bit snappier.

It was more a game about navigating mazes than shooting demons. The ingame map was shit which just made it even worse. The groups of enemies were also tiny so it lacked challenge.

Not a lot. Arguably the best DOOM game ever made aside from "what did what?"

IT'S LITERALLY A FORK OF THE GZDOOM VERSION BY THE SAME DEV YOU STUPID FUCKING MONGOLOID.

>"cinematic"

r u fucking retarted?

arrest yourselves autists

Doubt that current Kex iteration is in any way related to GZDoom, codewise.

No fucking Doom music

both objectively wrong, and retarded.
especially

Buy Doom 1, 2, or 64? I only got enough in the wallet for one and no PC to pirate

yikes

Get a console capable of piracy.

You just need to cope that it’s on your end this time, mate.

If you're that fucking trash at games you think having a slider for mouse input is valid then sure its on me. But I have actual standards.

nothing unless you're some kind of faggot

Doom 1 has the best level design
Doom 2 has more demons types and the SSG but the map design isn't as good
Doom 64 has the best "atmosphere"
All in all I'd say start with Doom 1.

It has the exact same mouse settings as 64 EX.

>doom 64
>best atmosphere
>no music just ambience

No

which in turn is also fucking trash
EX and this port are identical and riddled with amateurish errors and extremely basic options

Nuh-uh

I don't know why you're praising GZDoom, then. It doesn't even have smoothing or independent axis options.

yes it does????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
its literally on by default

>that webm
Stupid attention seeking bug person piece of shit. It's a cow udder, you knew exactly what would happen. Fuck off

I don't have either issue that you do, maybe recheck if you did something wonky when you initialized the game, nor do I see how the keybindings are the end all be all for judging the quality of the port in the first place. If anything, not being able to get rid of the shitty unskippable intros that lasts 5 minutes is more of a reasonable complaint to be making.

>yes it does?
Okay, it has a toggle for smoothing. Still no independent axis options.

>not being able to get rid of the shitty unskippable intros
-skipmovies

Its not like she chose to be born as a woman.

>not being able to get rid of the shitty unskippable intros
Literally go into the folder and delete the intros in the movies folder. 20 second job.

I think the real issue was that doom 64 was seen as being very archaic now that full on 3D took off on consoles. Sure they aren't pretty, but back then people were excited by Turok and Goldeneye's look and feel, you put Doom 64 next to them and they wouldn't be as impressed. Keep in mind that there wasn't yet such a thing as retro gaming and instead of generations being clear cut it was only games from across the years mingling together, many of us were only focused on moving forward alongside the advent of polygon graphics. Shit, there was Quake 1 and 2 on the same system, and on PS1 Medal of Honor swung around too so at the time if you had a choice you wouldn't even consider Doom at all unless you specifically sought it out.

It's hugely unfortunate that literally none of the Doom/Doom II/etc re-releases include the coloured lighting and Aubrey Hodges soundtrack from the PS1 port. Aubrey also did an amazing soundtrack for Quake 64, and yet literally zero versions of Quake outside the 64 release have it.

I'm usually critical of non-melodic game music, but Aubrey turned it into a legit art form as far as I'm concerned.

Oh, yea, and why the fuck do none of the re-releases of Doom have the audio design from the PS1 version? The revamped audio is kino. The reverb effects are kino. Even if they're optional, they should be included. The lead programmer behind Doom PS1 and Doom 64 was a genius who landed a job at Valve and has been there ever since.

The game logic is copied from Doom 64 EX, which is itself based on GZDoom, I believe. But accurately reproducing Doom 64's engine meant deviating pretty far from GZDoom. This is why none of the sourceports except maybe GEC Master Edition accurately handle Doom 64 and PS1 Doom, its sibling.

Imagine being too poor to buy Doom games in 2020. I like you user.

nigger.

buy a 10year old pc for 80 bucks and play the best games anyway
