Which one is the ultimate gamers choice for video games?
Intel vs. AMD Ryzen
depends on how much money you want to spend
AMD for budget
Intel for anything else
both are okay, i guess.
AMD's price to performance ratio is immensely better than Intel's right now.
if you wanna stream AMD or just NVENC using a 2000 series nvidia gpu
otherwise high end intel wins in games, 9900K > 3950x by a solid 5%
Can we also talk about Motherboards? what is the best motherboard for a 3700X. my main preference is low heat.
probably a b450 tomahawk
You could rock one of the high end B450s, but if you care about overclocking you should get an X470 or X570 with an efficient VRM
i9 9900k or ryzen 9 3950x?
B450 Tomahawk MAX is the best motherboard if you don't care for PCIE 4.0.
There's no reason to opt for either over the 3700X
ryzen because more and more stuff is using additional threads, also helps out with 1% and 0.1% fps lows.
>still using 5820k from 2014
>at base performance it's 20-25% slower than newer cpus in same tier
>OC to 4.0 and it's on par with a 9700
How's the current state of emulation? Is Intel still better or did the tides turn?
For anything other than gaming, choose Ryzen, but for gaming the 9900k can't be beat.
AMD because consoles use amd.
they're pretty even for emus generally, depends also if the emulator in question has vulkan etc
If it's still all single core stuff, Intel is technically better, but the Ryzen CPUs are so much better than AMDs older CPUs that you'll likely be able to run anything perfectly on those too, and for cheaper.
3950x is in an entirely different class and is $200 more expensive. Just go for unless you have cash to burn.
Comparing OC'd cpus to stock CPUs is just sad, why do it?
>comparing a 6 year old CPU oc'd to a new CPU not oc is sad
it is when intel is stuck on the same fab for like 15 years lmfofl
I know this is the CPU thread, but are those new AMD cards unfucked yet? I wanted to buy a card for my new build and kinda wanted a 5700XT over a 2060 Super, but I heard the stories about the drivers being especially bad.
the latest drivers fix most of the issues, still took them a long time to solve
AMD is about to launch their Ryzen 4000 series in about 6 months and they well might take the performance crown even in games. Might aswell get 3600 or 3700 with X570 motherboard, so you can easily sell your old CPU and upgrade without new mobo.
3700x is literally the best choice right now, little reason to go higher for diminishing returns and sure as fuck not intel.
>Ryzen 4000 series in about 6 months
With the epidemic ongoing, I doubt that.
20.2.2 and 20.3.1 fixed most issues.
I got a 3 3200g, is it good?
I have a 750 ti for gpu
Intel for great single-core (real world) performance and actual overclocking. AMD for meme cores and sub-4 GHz clock speeds.
This message brought to you from 2013.
Only for games, the i9 > ryzen 9
If you take price as a factor, ryzen 3700x > i9 in my opinion, to sacrifice a small % of fps in exchange for being considerably cheaper.
>Only for games with max 10fps increase, the i9 > ryzen 9
ftfy
Still rocking my 2700x I got in 2019, absolutely no problems there. I don't mind waiting for a while on Ryzen 4 either to upgrade.
RPCS3 favors Ryzen ever since they added Multithreaded RSX. Other emulators have Intel and AMD trading blows with Intel mostly coming up slightly ahead.
>RPCS3 favors Ryzen ever since they added Multithreaded RSX
Any comparison videos?
>RPCS3 implement TSX
>TSX is known for having a massive vulnerability flaw
kek
And btw, RPCS3 is the only software that supports TSX.
it makes a difference if you are looking for 144FPS 1440p
its just flu bro
>in about 6 months
Everything from CPU to GPU is going to be delayed with the stalling of production to tanking economy are you living under a rock?
Dont upgrade until you run into problems, you dont need to buy the next shiny thing
I actually looked it up and it doesn't seem that AMD has the advantage in RPCS3.
Yeah, I know. I did wait several years to upgrade CPUs though, went from my old i5 4670k to the Ryzen and my life is a lot sweeter now. I'll upgrade my 1070 first before anything to be honest
Intel is irellevant in the current market, games are changing from favouritng shitty overpriced intel single core biased CPUS. With VULKAN and DX12 coming in to take advnatage of stuff like ryzen there is literally no reason to buy intel again until they catch up. LLiterally the most recent ryzens are better than the most powerful consumer Intels currently
Thoughts on the Ryzen 1600 AF?
w-works on my immune system!
>still rocking 2700x
>released in 2018
Is this a common theme for the AMD users?
Intel still has an edge in the high end sector, but amd shits all over midrange
New consoles are going to have ayymd cpus so they're going to become even better now
check youtube or the rpcs3 forums/dev blog.
yeah the rpcs3 devs made a post about that saying that the intel security patches made tsx performance worse.
it ultimately depends on the game. some rely on the rsx more than spe's. also one game in particular doesn't boot on ryzen and that's god of war ascension so that's a minor thing to note.
yea, there's no real reason to upgrade from it if you bought it in 2018. I get 8 cores, 16 threads at 4.0 - 4.2 Ghz on mine
a 2600 but for $85, good buy but hurry because I can see the price rising soon from this pandemic.
Budget king and great CPU for 60fps gaming.
>PCIE 4.0.
is that something we should care for though?
I'm making a budget build and need a mobo but from what I'm reading a lot of the popular budget mobos like the B450 tomahawk have bios issues with the current gen ryzen CPUs. Is there a good mobo out there for like 100 or less that won't give me shit if I use it with a 3600?
niche use case, not for the average gamer that's for sure until gpus get strong enough to need the bandwidth
The ones you buy now have likely been flashed already, if not it's a matter of sticking in an usb drive and pressing a button
t. tomahawk and 3700x
not now, but in the future yes when gpus and ssds get faster.
I haven't kept super up to date with PC tech shit, how far are we talking in the future? Two years? Five?
by the time gpus can use it better motherboards will be released for better value
Wouldn't you need a separate CPU that works with it if you need to update the bios? Unfortunately my current PC has an old ass FX 6300 in it, so I wouldn't be able to do that if an older Ryzen CPU is required.
Nope, not on the tomahawk, it just werks
The point of the USB is to flash the bios without a CPU. Some motherboards let you do that.
