Is it safe to say that the only thing that could possibly hurt Kojima's legacy more than Death Stranding would be if he were to make Silent Hills after all and it ended up just as bad or worse?
Is it safe to say that the only thing that could possibly hurt Kojima's legacy more than Death Stranding would be if he...
>Death Stranding
>hurting Kojima
oh look, it's the down-voter autist again...
Knowing Kojima, he would probably miss the mark completely with how Silent Hill works, or remake SH2 like every other game post SH4.
I've been thinking a lot about what a new SH game should be, and I think they should bring back the Cult.
I think they should just do something completely different. I don't really think there's room for a sequel.
DS was fucking great, and Silent Hills was the first proper chance for the IP to make a return. Kojima's good friends with most of the ex-TS members, and he also stated long ago that he would've taken a backseat in the development.
>he would probably miss the mark completely with how Silent Hill works
Again, Kojima's not a one-man army.
>remake SH2
he's not that stupid, and SHS prototypes already proved tihs.
>bring back the cult
Yes, the occult elements were crucial to OG games. However, people seriously overstate the role of this "cult". It was not in your face, and you came across truly few of its characters in the end.
There really isn't that much room in the series period. The only thing I see happening is either a remake, or a reboot.
Silent hill will probably not be a game like before it will be like resident evil game which was fps. Or be like heavy rain
I always thought Silent Hill was kind of cool, but truthfully I don't know if I'll ever understand why people hail it as such a masterpiece.
Why the fuck would you even assume this dumb shit?
The demo was in first person and it was all like a point and click adventure game. Kojima is trying to make it all atmospheric. If I am wrong then why was here no action or survival in the demo?
Only people who live in Portland think this is cool shit.
Nobody in Japan gives a fuck about SH.
Because it was no "Demo".
It says in the name itself: a "playable teaser".
It was confirmed MANY TIMES that the actual Silent Hills would not play anything like the PT. It was merely a proof of concept, a tech demo, and a hidden teaser trailer, all in one.
Because SH is based on the greatest American movie of all time, Kindergartner Cop
>truthfully I don't know if I'll ever understand why people hail it as such a masterpiece.
Superb atmosphere.
Killer soundtracks.
Amazing visuals for their time.
Deep, multilayered and mature stories.
Fascinating psychological themes.
Tons of replay value.
Neat puzzles.
Actually scary as fuck games.
What's there NOT to love?
Not everyone's an in-bred burger like (You).
Kojima never intended to make Silent Hills, it was just a funny pun for Quiet's Boobs
short answer: yes.
a new SH game has so much riding on it, with near-unrealistic expectations.
If Kojima is at helm, he WILL make it his own way, which is as dissapointing as his last few games.
MGSV: took way too long, too much money, and story was dumb anyway
DS: too much Hollywood, too much [dumb] dialogue, abysmal gameplay and bosses, attempts at originality were divisive and ultimately not worth second playthroughs.
He doesn't know how to write people anymore.
He would guarantee be the true death of Silent Hill.
To be honest, I'd rather he make the game without the Silent Hill IP
>and I think they should bring back the Cult.
the cult ends with deaths of both Claudia and Vincent, bringing them back would require a massive contrivance. SH4 alone had to contrive a 'the cult has the 21 Sacraments as a back-up plan in case Alessa fails' plot-point, considering Dahlia was so 100% certain in SH1 that her plan would work that there was no indication she had such a backup plan. That's just to reinforce that bringing the cult back won't work either. The series was done by the 3rd game, the 4th being a bonus, so there's no reason to go back. Better off trying to build a new series.
SH1 and 3 were ALL about the cult. Everything that is happening is happening because of the cult. In SH1 the only character you meet that is not involved with the cult is Cybil and in SH3 the detective. All the games that featured the cult had it as the main aspects of the story. Even in SH4 the cult is important even if its barely directly spoken about.
>too much Hollywood, too much [dumb] dialogue, abysmal gameplay and bosses
t: Haven't even touched DS.
>He would guarantee be the true death of Silent Hill.
The series has been literally dead for 15 years now. Some western fucks tried to rape the corpse, and Jewnami is beating the rotting carcass with Pachislot garbage.
Get fucked.
There were dozens of people involved with the cult, if not more, even people in neighboring towns. I think its safe to say there could be other cult members still out there.
alessa was hot lol
>SH1 and 3 were ALL about the cult
No, they weren't.
Cult was always a backdrop plot device. The games themselves were about A) a father looking for his daughter in a monster infested town, and/or B) a tale of a young girl's torment in the hands of the local society and supernatural entities alike.
The only game where cult truly is a central element is SH4.
I hope a new game won't invent a whole new dumb town that is most definitely NOT Silent Hill, like with Homecoming.
I wanna fuck Alessa now
He lacks the subtlety to write a proper Silent Hill game. It would be nothing but nauseating exposition describing the same plot points over and over and beating you over the head with symbolism, only to explain it textually a second later.
Kojima and Silent Hill are the worst possible match, and I prefer to see the series gone than handled by that man. And I say this as a die-hard (heh) MGS fan. If you think the western-developed games were bad, you have no idea what we were slated for.
No one cares about lowly members who only exist as paypigs for Vincent. Claudia is quite literally the only one actually trying to find Cheryl and try once more to birth the demon god - everyone else just passively observes sermons and shit. And Vincent is the one enabling this by getting these randoms to join and contribute money. Without either of these people to cult can't function, nor does it have the drive to follow through with its teachings.
Also, like I said, we already had another way to birth the demon-god in SH4. If you bring the cult back, all it will be is characters copying the roles of Claudia and Vincent with yet another new contrived ritual (in other words it will be a copy of the games that already exist).
The series has reached a narrative dead-end and there's nothing wrong with that. Make something new instead.
>If you think the western-developed games were bad, you have no idea what we were slated for.
Makes sense as Kojima is a big westaboo.
I could see him putting eyebrows on Claudia and pants on Heather.
>pants on Heather.
What a nightmare.
What I was thinking was going back to Silent Hill but renaming the city to try and rebrand to bring in new people and some cult people end up coming back to the city.
My idea for a a new SH game is to do an origin story like Origins but instead of focusing on Alessa, have it focus on another girl being prepped for giving birth do a new god. Like a soft reboot. Just have it set MANY years after the original games, and since SH1 takes place in the 80s, it wouldn't be farfetched to say the town was revived.
Death Stranding is fine. The problem with it is people thought it was going to be something it wasn't and hyped it to hell and back only to get burned.
Saying that the games aren't about the cult just because the barebones synopsis is "father looking for daughter in a dangerous place" is ridiculous. Would you say Les Miserables is just about a man trying escape from the law while raising his foster daughter, and that the whole socio-political climate of post revolutionary france are just a plot device? There are layers to things and the whole story revolves around the cult. The whole reason Harry is looking for his daughter in silent hill is because of the cult, the reason the town is the way that it is now is because of the cult, the reason harry even goes to all places he goes in the game aside from the school is because of the cult, all revolves around it.
Whoa, which Silent Hill is this cutie from??? I'm suddenly interested in these games.
Just uninstall Tinder period, it's 80 percent dudes, those are terrible odds.
Shes a burn victim user, Silent Hill is not for waifufagging. To answer your question shes from Silent Hill 1.
I didn't mean that it had to be in a another town, just that there may be a lot of cultists left in the area that could try to rebuild the cult and try to birth god again. I like idea but just not renaming the town. Make it a soft reboot set many years later where the cult is trying to fuck shit up again.
If you cannot be better than 98% of men you do not deserve a girl better than 90% of women
>But that's not fair!!
Ok.
I think a soft reboot would be the best way forward.
Keep the general ideas but adapt it to a new generation. But avoiding the "remake" route like Resident evil remakes, or whatever the hell they tried to do with shatered memories. Its not Silent Hill Remake, its a new game, with new characters and new plot points, but using the original as a base.
>silent hill is not about waifufagging
Anyone got any interesting premise for a new character and what would torment them/what their monsters would be
I got one, His name Is Faggio McGames. His torment is shit vidya. All the monsters are symbolic of DLC and Microtransactions.
Yas Forumseddit user battling wojaks and anime thots covered in beefaroni and barbed wire
>Saying that the games aren't about the cult just because the barebones synopsis
No no, not synopsis.
The games do not revolve, focus and go deep into the ideas of the "cult". It's just a backstory detail that leds to the current situation.
Imagine having to fight in a building that is the physical embodiment of resetera and the monsters are twisted versions of reddit snoos
I think some kind of army veteran dealing with all the shit that comes with war. Feeling guilty for the killings, missing the adrenaline of combat, war crimes and so on.
I think a late 70's or early 80's setting with a Vietnam veteran would be good, but a 20's setting with a WW1 veteran would also be cool
It shouldn't be anyways. Heather is the exception. Do people waifufag James?
The main character is a cop that considered to be a super hero, so the girl being sacrifice lures him into the town to save her.
Plot twist
He really is just a nice dude with no emotional baggage so we can finally stop this shit with every western SH MC having some trauma
Heather was designed to not be waifu, but waifufags are gonna waifufag
I get that, you could do that to any protagonist. Yas Forums I guess is thirsty for blonde freckled teenagers.
>I think a late 70's or early 80's setting with a Vietnam veteran would be good
Kino. I remember thinking thats what Homecoming was going to be (back when it was called Silent Hill 5)
>try to make her look like a normal teen girl and not super pretty
>end up making her super homely and a girl next door type
>people coom buckets
I wonder how they feel about that?
>Silent Hill is not for waifufagging
*doubt*
>Detail
What the fuck dude, didn't you play the game?
You're looking for Cheryl, but from exiting the school onwards you're doing that by dealing with the cult and finding out the connections of the cult with your current situation.
The only thing SH1 is truly about is a father searching for his missing daughter, in a nightmare world.
They need Toyama and as much of Team Silent back as possible, it's clear hardly any other company knows how to properly capture the same atmosphere or tension.
Otherwise just bringing the cult back could give you another Homecoming.
The series's events EXIST as a direct result of the actions of the cult. What crack are you on? Even the Rebirth ending of SH2 focuses on the cult's teachings and Born from a Wish does too.
I'd have more faith in Nintendo making a faithful SH game than Hackjima.
>Knowing Kojima, he would probably miss the mark completely with how Silent Hill works, or remake SH2 like every other game post SH4.
This is the exact reason I'm glad silent hills got canceled.
Even if death stranding was a masterpiece, Kojima would not have made a proper sequel to 4. Its more likely he would have simply remade the story or followed a "multi-verse" plot with ghost towns entities and aliens.
I wouldn't even blame him for failing.
Their is an endless amount of mis-information from secondaries.
No one would be able to tie together a proper sequel. I don't even think the original team silent could pull it off again.
everyone claiming "Guillermo Del Toro and Junji Ito are what silent hill needs to be perfect" are retarded.
This man gets it. I have no idea why people fellate PT so much, especially when those same people are quick to hate any vaguely similar game that has walking sim elements. Even that early on there were warning signs that Kojima’s version of Silent Hill was just going to be another shitty remake/ripoff of 2, on top of your typical Kojima red flags like stealing visuals and cues wholesale from western media he likes, like the Eraserhead baby.
Maybe Del Toro would have been able to rein him in, but I really doubt it.
Anyone that thinks shattered memory was a good silent hill game or "better than the western ones" are the reason the series became trash.
