Whats the problem?
I never played the original

holy shit hahahaha fuck snoy

the remake is soulless

dont know which one is the remake but the bottom on looks better

Well shit. I just downloaded it the other day, but im not even sure i want to start it, even before this post

best to play the original then the remake afterward

It's good. Just make sure to turn off the hints in the settings.

Thanks, looks good

You realize NO ONE takes you seriously if you use meme buzzwords like soulless right?

So they added soul?

They made it a Souls-like.

There are some actual downgrades on the remake, the most prominent one being Wander. His animations are way too robotic compared to the original, and his model is honestly kinda worse, specially his more "corrupted" stages later on the game.

Other than that...well, I think a lot of the atmosphere was taken away.
But that stuff is mostly personal, you'd just have to experience both for yourself and tell me which one feels better for you.

>things look different when viewed from different angles
DUDE WHAT THE FUCK

stop acting like a retard, you should know what "soulless" means by now.

by more robotic I mean they literally took away some of his animations that made it look like he was reacting to the world around him while running; not that the quality is worse.

Yeah, it means NEW BAD.

Wander is a different character now thanks to the changes made to him.
youtu.be/kYqk-yDOTrQ?t=406
Determined, stoic, knows what he's there for.
youtu.be/rCU6732KLd0?t=389
Mournful, boyish, bishi even.

it means the devs didn't give a fuck about what they were doing. low effort, lazy, unpolished.

nothin dude haha it's just nostalgia lmao

Right looks better

Personally, I like it. It's the original game with realistic graphics and that's pretty much it.

What's your point? The remake looks better

The remake literally looks like I remembered the original

Except they did and everyone except hipsters agree its a good remake

it's all so tiresome

Attached: Particles.webm (1176x338, 2.88M)

oh come on man, it's one of the few remakes that (almost) perfectly recaptured the original

You realize a consensus forms around the certain usage of words and that's how language develops over time right?

I haven't played the remake, but based on this, I can see exactly why they'd say it's "soulless".
It's a good term and people shouldn't avoid using it because they're self conscious about looking like they got memed on.

Why is the camera so goddamn unwilling to work with me?

Team Ico really did some amazing stuff with the technology they had at the point. Shame the framrate sucked so badly.

NOOOOOO NOT THE SOUL!
EVERYTHING'S TOO BRIGHT AND CLEAR! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO LET MY IMAGINATION FILL IN THE DETAILS AND PROJECT THINGS THAT AREN'T THERE?

just let it do its thing.

this guy understands.

Attached: 5 1.webm (1552x380, 2.76M)

The framerate was compromised but it's still easily one of my favorite games from the 128 bit gen. I had all three consoles and loved them all to bits.

this but unironically

Is the PS3 remaster a-okay? I want to play the original but the little lags it happens makes me wanna die at times.

was it autism?

OH NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOO™

It's alright, you can emulate it too.

it's a civil service.

It's called taste, to someone lacking it it might seem like autism

why does the new version look so flat

Attached: 1573492843327.jpg (750x741, 57.13K)

It's a desperate user who ensures we can't have a good SotC thread anymore without him shitting out his folder of OLD GOOD NEW BAD webms

Attached: 1528240807935.jpg (398x326, 56.2K)

The problem is when everything gets overused.
Any sequel, any remaster, any remake there is always someone who completely hates it and calls it "soulless". Which would be fine if they gave a more in-depth analysis of their opinions, but instead all they do is say "it's soulless" and expect everyone to get; except thanks to the overuse of that word, some people will just figure that whoever uses this word is just a retard that thinks "new bad"

like this guy did
But in a different timeline where idiots didn't spam the word "soulless" everywhere...yeah, I guess it would be sort of fair to call the remake soulless. Or at least not soulful enough.

It looks like those fan made unreal engine projects of popular games. Soulless couldn't fit something better.

Only thing wrong with the remake was Wander, everything else seems fine.

So basically it doesn't apply here, right? I mean the devs were fans of the game who took one of the most popular threads on some fan website of this game and worked an entire treasure hunt as an easter egg into the game to give fans some new interesting stuff they have been searching for

I literally just beat this game for the first time like five minutes ago. I had funThe eighth colossus fight can suck my ass tho

just your average insane soul vs soulless fag

soul = off

Attached: volumetric fog lol.jpg (2465x1081, 404.49K)

Take the nu-sony dick out of your mouth, and maybeget some taste and standards

I tried to emulate SotC a couple of weeks ago on the latest pcsx2 version but even tho the game is supposedly running at 60fps it doesnt feel smooth at all.
I tried different settings and guides but nothing seems to work, I kinda gave up but I might retry it again.
What settings do you guys use to run this shit?

Attached: sotc6.jpg (1920x1080, 315.59K)

it's a meme of a word, partially a joke but it also has a tangible meaning and definition

you're being autistic whining about it. you know exactly what it means and if you don't then you'll get called a retard and it will be justified.

the devs weren't fans or they are extreme hacks because they really messed up. it's very low effort.

Attached: bjMlGXVh.jpg (1024x661, 83.89K)

Actual fans of the game disagree with you though. Only in this retarded echo chamber will you find people shitting on the remake, all fan sites and anything else praised the remake.

It's the lighting system man. Obviously the remake has greater graphical fidelity, but they removed the hazy-looking lighting the original had. It added so much to the atmosphere, it made the locations feel surreal instead of just barren and made everything seems like it was dreamlike. It was extremely important to the game's atmosphere and very deliberate. When you change to a global lighting system you lose those small touches.

I'd understand as a matter of skill or taste that the modelers couldnt help but give him a round potato face, but did they give him a fucking lazy eye too?

If one horny simp can take out your defense system against ancient evil then maybe your defense system wasn't very good?

Fuck those faggots.

got the webm comparing Wanders running? Thought that was the most damning one. They really didnt give a shit about his animation

Why the fuck do modern devs hate contrast? They removed all the darkest shadows and lightest highlights and made everything flat and monochrome gray. The original was heavenly and ethereal because of its genius use of light. That's the thing that they completely forget about.

The remake looks so mundane with its use of light, which is nothing new for modern devs.

his animations are insanely bad and buggy. to sy Bluepoint were fans is just nonsense, they didn't care at all.

they chose the shortest game they could find to remake and went with that.

enable half pixel offset, mtvu, and mess with the EE slider in speed hacks. if you set it 2 ticks right it will uncap the frame rate but it won't always run at 60.

Attached: head animation.webm (802x314, 2.14M)

The hazy effect was also pretty good in increasing the sense of scale. Like when you see a mountain in the distance, it actually starts looking a bit blurry because there's just that much physical atmoshere in between you and it.

You start with fucking up color scheme, right?

>caring about quality is autism
I hate this place

He is looking at a specific point so it just looks wonky.
The part you can tell they didn't really care is Wander's degradation thru the game is completely toned down. It was probably one of the best parts of the organic tale being told and now you can't even notice it.

Personally, only the particle effects and fog are worse in the new version. Everything else is pretty great.

>not realizing the Colossi were not supposed to happen but Dormin understood human faith structures and slowly formed them as a deliberate way to undo his curse.
His curse was to be bound to the land thru the totems, not the colossi. He formed the colossi so someone could break the totems for him.
Everything about it was deliberately set up so if someone desperate enough came to him he could point to an easy solution to both their problems.

One of the big things to consider about PS2 games is transparencies are basically free. To this very day alpha effects are one of the biggest drains on a GPU, causing things to chug the moment they get a little intense. The PS2 however had such a stupid amount of bandwidth, that within its limitations it could basically render an obscene number of transparencies at no impact to performance.

Shadow of the Colossus clearly indulged in this, hard. Often using alpha layers for things such as fog, debris, hair, that were trivial for the system to crunch through.

>you're being autistic whining about it
I'm literally just explaining why some people have a problem with it and why some people don't. That's all. Jeez. I miss when you people would at least call other people "cancer", hearing "autism" and "retard" all the time is so tiresome.

Pretty cool of Dormin to at least stay true to his word.

They either don't care or aren't even aware of it. Just imagine them as drooling drones clacking away at their keyboards not knowing why they're doing what they're doing.

>you can emulate it too.
My PC almost dies when I emulate it tho. I think my shitty 4GB RAM is the cause of it.

Sound is a lot worse imo

youtu.be/ukjtnuFmD_w?t=1512

Sound mixing in general is just off, like the music and voices are too quiet so there's less impact and the entire game seems to be missing the echo of the original which was also present in Ueda's other games. The remake just sounds sterile.

yeah it sucks we can't have nice things like that today.

Attached: no self shadowing.png (1904x464, 459.35K)

Check out this remaster bro

Attached: 168983345.png (1492x1413, 2.92M)

meant to name this image 'autism'

meh, he intentionally left some stuff out. But he didn't have to, Wander was going to say yes regardless.

It does look really good...but damn, it just doesn't look like Shadow of the Colossus. Looks more like a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn.

But hey, if you enjoy it, keep on it man.

>yeah it sucks we can't have nice things like that today.
When Sony designed their own hardware they often did weird things that were hard to explain at the time. Then the rest of the industry copies it a generation later realizing how brilliant the idea was. The original PS3 plan with the PowerVR GPU would have been a monolith, but NEC fell through and they had to settle with Nvidia. The PS2 had these two vector units that were crucial to getting the most out of the system, they became the foundation for the streaming multiprocessor in the iconic Nvidia 8000 series cards which define how games are rendered to this day.

Nice comparison there. Very clear and to the point. Idiot.

Top: Soul
Bottom: Soulless
Try and rebut this. You can't.

He left nothing out. Wander asked: "can you revive her?" and Dormin said: "Probably, but man is it gonna cost you."

Wander then just went and accepted, didn't even fucking ask.

His argument seems pretty reasonable to me, idk what you're on about.
