Brawl was the last good Smash. It was definitely the last Smash with soul.

Agreed. Now fuck off.
I do miss the subspace emissary and how it wasn’t completely infested with tryhard fgc fags, but I think I’ve had the most fun with Smash playing Ultimate.
You know what else has soul? My thick brown Chilean cock slipping deep into your mother's pussy
fuck off with this revisionist "old good new bad" bullshit. Brawl was bad, and still is. The subspace emissary was pretty cool, but it doesn't make up for all the bullshit in the actual gameplay.
Icons was better than vanilla Brawl
bump
>I remember getting this game on launch day
>That was 12 years ago
It need one fat update to clean up some of the bullshit with the gameplay, but yes
Sakurai is conscientious and dutiful, but this is the last Smash Bros game he had a genuine passion for
i checked the smash dojo every day for like a year and a half. the delays were painful. when it was released, there was a massive snowstorm that had hit and my dad drove me and my buddy through like 8 inches of fucking snow to get it. holy shit i have still not been has hyped up for a game since. fuck, my dad also rules
Yes
>B-BUT MUH SOUL!
No, even Sm4sh plays better than it.
Agreed. It was also the only smash bros I was pretty great at sadly.
nah, the game sucked, only thing that isn't done better by other smash games is the story mode.
i'm still pissed that the smash ultimate "story" mode is just a bunch of spirit battles
Brawl's pre-release was something special. It was the most exciting and simultaneously disappointing game I've ever played. Looking at Melee and expecting a blanket my have been too much to hope for, and it's made me more cynical going forward.
Ultimate>Brawl>Melee>64>Sm4sh
>but they are all good games
I want to endorse this but I can't rank Brawl above Melee simply because of how much time I spent with Melee (and I don't say this as a competitive player, it just had so much content and replayability).
It was super soulful though.
It's the easiest one to play, so that's understandable.
Brawl has the best single player
fuck off Brawl is shit
good games need good gameplay
Brawl's gameplay is passable. Yeah the tripping sucks, but it's not enough to destroy the game.
>ugly artsyle
>floaty boring gameplay
>unfun newcomers except for the one that literally ruined the competitive scene
>nerfed target practice to shit
Wow so much soul
Unironically agree.
>Brawl was the first bad Smash
ftfy zoom zoom
*Zoomber
Just to be clear, I don't think Brawl was perfect. I actually like Melee better, even though Brawl had Snake and Sonic. I also don't like the way they portrayed Wario in Brawl. They took away the things that made him interesting and made him disgusting.
That being said, Brawl was the last Smash with soul. It was the last Smash that truly felt like a celebration of video games, and it was the last Smash that didn't feel sterile.
>no board the platforms
>no race to the finish
>no custom break the targets for each character
>gimped af "classic" mode
>stupid af trophy game
Hahaha no. SSE was garbage by the way.
I focken hate ya cunts who use ash and animal crosser online
>Brown and bloom
>soul
Calling Brawl "brown and bloom" is a stretch. The graphics are gritter and more realistic, but if anything that adds to the game's aesthetic. It wasn't safe and sterile like 4 and Ultimate were.
If there was a spirit board for every series represented in Smash Bros. Ultimate and make the collection of spirit boards become the new Event Mode, then add a decent Adventure Mode, Target Test, Board the Platforms, Boss Rush, and Black Yoshi, it would surpass Brawl.
What about Ultimate is sterile?
>the last Smash with soul
True
>the last good Smash
False
>Trying to stay true the the specific aesthetics of the source games in a crossover is sterile
ok zoomer
Agreed
pure soul
youtube.com
So you like 4?
So you're trying to say you're a zoomer and feel some nostalgic attachment to Brawl because you were about 13 years old when it came out.
I'd always wondered what exactly "soul" meant, how it could be clearly defined when people were using the term so loosely.
I see now that it's actually just a synonym for "terrible gameplay."
No, I'm trying to say that I'm a zoomber and I think Brawl was the last Smash that had soul.
I prefer Melee anyway.
Soul is a certain quality inherent to a specific work or thing, that elicits an emotion deep inside. Soul is what makes you tear up when you hear a beautiful piece of music. Soul is that feeling of raw emotion you get when you watch a movie you love. Everything before 2005 has soul of varying degrees.
Soullessness started in 2005 when you got stuff like Johnny Test and the Tim Burton Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie.
You are using meaningless terms that only indicate you have nostalgic attachment to something
What meaningless term did I use?
The only reason you like this game is cause you grew up with it lmao. If you played this without nostalgia glasses you would see this games competitive was cringe and all the value was from playing with your families.
" S O U L "
I defined soul in the post above yours. Learn to read.
You defined it as nostalgia you retard. You used inexact, amorphous, general terms. It means fucking nothing. It's not an objective standard, it's just "I have nostalgia".
Ok why does that need a thread?
>tripping
That's because soul can't be described. It's something you have to feel. I can't describe the color red, can I? Soul is similar. You have to feel it for yourself.
I'm 30 and have been playing since the first Smash. I'm total nostalgiafag and I think Ultimate has as much soul as any of them.
Soul was a term first coined by a Kirby game shitposter who kept complaining about a remake of Kirby Nightmare is Dreamland for the GBA which removed 3 small platforms at the start of a level. Also about how he hated the colors.
uhh
interesting
Based.
Hating Brawl is peak reddit.
I honestly miss the jankiness of brawl.
based
4 and ultimate are soulless dogshit.
Source?
>had all these Nintendo worlds to play with. Instead made a bunch of generic areas with no game references beyond music.
>had tons of potential enemies many games to fight. Instead made a bunch of just plain weird OCs with a few Goombas thrown in.
>the cutscenes, while having cool moments, sucked at conveying a plot, to the point that the official website had to explain what the fuck was happening
Subspace sucked. I thought it was cool 12 years ago, but now I realize everything it did wrong.
No need to mention it, dad. You're cool.
It was fun user
Confirmed for absolutely cringe zoomerlet who played Brawl when he was 8.
Nobody who isn't a complete fucking retard played 64, melee and then liked Brawl. Brawl is and probably always will be the worst smash. Friendly reminder that also if 64 wasn't your first smash, you are permanently underage, permanently new and are not allowed here.
Get the fuck out.
