I can't believe the movie actually gave this franchise a shot in the arm. It's been nine years since Generations and we really thought it was on the right track there. Sonic's been coasting on memes all decade with Mania picking up the slack for the past three years. It felt like people were treating the Sonic franchise with increased indifference, which might've been worse than seeing it as a video games' lovable loser. We've got some energy back but not the optimism.
