What went right? What went wrong? Was it a worthy successor to the franchise?
What was the verdict, bros?
Fun gameplay completely ruined by a horrible story. The DLC campaigns are actually really fun though and competently written.

Biggest amount of content of any Borderlands game at launch
BL3 > Tales > BL2 > TPS > BL1
The gameplay is so far above the rest of the series it's easily my favorite. Mayhem mode was one of the best decisions they've made. Especially with it increasing xp/cash/loot. I've only just finished the Handsome Jack DLC, but so far that was the most fun I've had with the game. Gonna start the other one later.
>What went right
The gameplay and guns are the best they've ever been it's still a really fun time with or without friends. Also the music is surprisingly amazing much better than previous games
>What went wrong
The story is abysmal and in a game where it forces you to replay the campaign over and over again it really bogs the game down. Rare weapon drops seem to happen WAY more than in previous game making those legendary weapons not feel special when they drop.
The menus and hud are awful and make everything feel clunky. And the biggest gripe I have with the game is the awful patch obsession gearbox has. Borderland is about the broken shit it's what made bl2 builds so fun. This game feels like whatever broken thing is discovered is almost immediately nerfed or patched out. Moze was my favorite character to play throwing infinite grenades was fun to me but they nerfed the shit put of that and I can't even play like that anymore. If they continue with this patch shit I'm afraid the game will get even worse over time.
>Is it a worthy successor
I literally can't go back to bl2 now playing bl3 with how much better the gameplay is but will it last as long as bl2? Probably not it's basically already dead as it is
Really good game if you can get past the cringy dialogue and horrible story.
Good jokes are rare
The second DLC is about Hammerlock having a gay marriage and it ends with them having calling it off so they can have an open relationship with some buff gladiator wannabe instead. This shit is disgusting.
Why do redditors get hards on for Jackso much? Is a sarcastic manchild character who treats evil actions like it's casual really that deep and original for them?
>forces you to replay
It doesnt
your tradwife doesn't exist, incel
Who?
The only people I saw on Yas Forums that were excited for the game were people who were actual children when Borderlands 2 launched. Shier first game in the series was either the pre-sequel or the telltale game. That's why they're obsessed with Jack, because the story went from general retardation to "lets try and tell a meaningful story about characters that aren't in the game."
retard
Best way to play BL3 is just mute the voices.
>gameplay good
>storys a trainwreck
>so far all women are strong, competent, and leaders while men are goofy and/or incompetent (game doesn't throw it in your face, but by the 2nd level it becomes blatantly obviously what tone their setting)
>did I mention the story?
>they actually managed to make Moxy lose all sex appeal at this point
>series is dead set on not letting you play as previously playable characters, yet here they are in the dlc
>probably gonna kill your favorite previous playable character at any point in time to make room for more Ava tier hunters
>really tired of borderlands forcing gay shit as a normallity in my face every 30 minutes with nothing on the other spectrums to at least even the gay out a bit
>guns feel really good, and all of them seem to have some gimmick behind them that gets you so attached you don't wanna junk it
>literal who sirens are somehow more powerful than the confirmed strongest previous games sirens and trash them in single cutscenes with almost no actual combat
>7 meme arrows just to say the plot is meh
lol
shit game through and through
felt dated as fuck
It’s aight. Really wish we got more focus on the borderlands 2 gang. There’s a fucking war going on across the galaxy where the fuck are Salvador and Axton
submit and give you boipussi to some chad thats actually gonna fuck you, cause no woman will
that's not true at all did you even finish the dlc hammerlock is just gay married
Thanks for the gold ;)
cope, mayacuck
Best game in the series. Anyone who says otherwise is a retarded storyfag who doesn't realize that all the games in the series have bad stories.
based
Exactly this
Anyone who gives any kind of shit about the storyline or writing clearly forgot what series they're playing.
I was SO glad when they added the option to skip cutscenes, fucking finally.
Fpbp.
Visuals are insane too. I cant believe how good the day night cycles look.
>DLC is about racist sexist cultists trying to destroy a gay marriage
>Yas Forums doesnt like it
When will you admit you're just a brainwashed retard.
Not everything has to be some deep relatable character
Some people are just evil psychopaths and that's okay.
Jack is a very well done crazy looney nutcase.
>>probably gonna kill your favorite previous playable character at any point in time to make room for more Ava tier hunters
tfw I really liked playing aurelia
needless to say I was kinda disappointed with what happened to her but I guess it makes sense considering what happened to the rest of the TPS cast
Same
I was surprised yet not really
You clearly didnt play the game and got all your opinions on it from shitposts and webms.
Its not even that good of a game you dont need to lie to make it look bad, just makes you look bad.
>What went right?
Nothing
What went wrong?
Everything
Was it a worthy successor to the franchise?
Well the franchise is shit so yeah
it was shit since the first one
best game in the series. im hoping the last dlc lets you make your own guns and harvest guns for parts.
im anti sjw as any nazi but your reaction to the plot makes me glad they put it in. funny stuff.
you, too
>im hoping the last dlc lets you make your own guns and harvest guns for parts.
Never fucking happening.
>BL3 > Tales > BL2 > TPS > BL1
weak bait.
Objective tier-chain is:
Shit >>>>>>>>>> TPS > Tales > BL1 > BL2 >>> BL3
lmao aidsfags mad
>tfw I just found out yesterday that you can see what every individual part of your gun does
I'm not autistic enough to memorize what does what however
i hope you get assraped by the next joke someone tells you you humorless cunt lol.
never say never
That's impossible, but they could add a grinder like in TPS.
In Borderlands, it's definitely never. They want you to grind, grind, grind for EVERYTHING. Nobody gets shortcuts around the RNG.
>Farm Handsome Jackie for hours and only get Deep Diving Facepunchers
>Farming Tom & Xam for a Soulrender and finally get a Redundant Facepuncher
Based.
>i hope you get assraped by the next joke someone tells you you humorless cunt lol.
show me on this mask the meme TRIGGERED you
>farm
>when they're just going to raise the level cap again in a couple months and all that work will have gone to waste
What is the point?
>*where the meme TRIGGERED you
ftfy
Sadly BL3 loot system gives so many legendaries they feel somewhat shitty now
Which is why purples are often better. No shitty firing gimmicks, just reliability.
Because the Facepuncher's damage and the White Elephant artifact scale off your character level anyway, and it's THE keystone weapon for a melee Amara build.
>TPS >
oh no no no
TPS had garbage characters and whoever wrote Pickle's character should be drawn and quartered, but it had some pretty solid gameplay and weapons.
TPS is the only one that fixed utter slog that is running between the mission checkpoints, thanks to adding the O2 timer that adds vaguely remote sense of urgency + faster vertical movement (courtesy of supre-mario buttslam)
I played on release. The game was a buggy mess. The people you play as are boring. The skills are boring. 90% character who talks in the game is a girl. Everyone is gay. I had fun but fuck me, I would not pay more than 20 bucks for it. I miss the characters you can play in 2
The only vault Hunter that has a good personality is Zane. The others are so damn generic and boring
pretty much, most oranges I find can look good but have some weird gimmick that put me off instantly.
The zones and maps were filled with empty garbage and are atrocious to navigate though, so we're back to square one
It's a shame we don't get any O2 shenanigans in 3. I hope we at least get an elpis dlc
Am I the only one who found the gameplay terrible in 3? I had to stop playing because how tedious the combat was, it didn't feel satisfying at all since all the enemies just seemed to be bullet sponged. I unloaded two full guns worth of ammo into the spider ant ellite in the starting zone and he was only half done. Even the regular enemies could take 2 full critical shots from a sniper before dying.
Also a lot of the guns just felt the same, the pistols and shotguns and even the snipers I tried seemed to be pretty much all automatic, so it felt like there was very little varience.
Maybe it's just nostalgia but I don't remember the first two being so bad in those two regards.
since the writing in entire series is garbage through and through, the gameplay + loot is the only merit the game has (+maybe sound design), which makes TPS a winner by default.
Actually, even the main plotline of TPS is kinda good (because it offers a solid character arc for the Jack)
>no lasers in bl3
why
I know there's technically guns that shoot lasers but I liked having lasers as a class of gun
seriously, the O2 bar was a brilliant addition (on top of another layer for character build, the meter itself used for two things - slide/glide and breathe - which also added at least vague semblance of player's agency over his actions)
We're not entering survival-tier resource management, but it's miles ahead of utter slog that was running in BL2 and especially 1.
Borderlands has literally always been meme-filled dogshit.
I've yet to be disappointed with a Dahl legendary. They mostly don't bother with shitty gimmicks. The Warlord for example simply has a 30% chance to not spend ammo.
Nice to see Dahl have some solid options in this game, outside of cheese strats like Beehawking they didn't have any standouts in BL2.
>he zones and maps were filled with empty garbage and are atrocious to navigate though
you can't be fucking serious with this, when BL2 with its "skyrim dungeon bent into a moebius ring"-tier level design where you can't fucking tell where's up and down.
just picked the deluxe edition of this up from indiegala on sale. what am i in for?
In general, the best orange guns are the ones that are just plain high stats and fixed firing patterns.
I personally favor the AAA for shield busting. Wish it was in BL2, as it would have made my Gaige a monster.
>series is on the 3rd game and they still force you to complete the game as each character/class individually to level them up instead of just sharing XP across all characters and letting you change characters whenever you want during the campaign
Basically I just download a character editor and boost all my nonplayed characters up to whatever the main one Im playing at the time with other people is. I also use it to raise/lower the level of all my gear depending on what my friends levels are so I can match them.
If you think the AAA is good for shield busting, you should try the Brainstormer. It chains to other enemies when you shoot and takes out whole groups of shields at once
