One Step From CBT

Okay was Battle Network always this bullshit hard? Like sure if you were on new game +4 or some shit. Any tips for how to get good at one Step from Eden? Or Battle Network style games in general?

i never completed the game or even reach halfway through the map
this is fucking insane

OSE is way harder than BN ever was, but that's the point, it's a roguelite and you're supposed to die if your build/skills aren't on point. Note that the game has some balance issues right now and there are builds that can make the game easy and a whole shitton of spells that are too difficult to use to be worth it.

whats the ez mode builds

Yeah it's like what if every enemy is on bass levels of difficulties. I'd be okay if the game was this fast paced but it had a turn system similar to BN to let me catch my breath. I'd be more okay with something this fast if every 10-15 seconds I could just stop and analyze the battle and my tactics.

Phalanx shield builds
Miseri leech builds
That one flow rock spell that goes back to your hand (double upgrade it and spam it with an empty deck)

I don't know how to git gud, the closest I got was One Leap on Selicy
Fun as hell though, closest I can figure on how to get good is to pick a small, themed deck and focus on getting out what you want. Like cards that use Flow or decks that use Jam. Jam Slam is fucking strong

Forgot to mention that all of those rely on getting certain artifacts that synergize with it. Stacking Mana Veins or other sources of regen is especially important for the last one.

What's CBT? Cock and ball torture?

Is the difficulty and fast pace enough to ruin the game? I just have BN nostalgia but if the similarity is only surface level than I don't want to bother

The game is literally meant to be a far harder, faster version of Battle Network, the dev literally said so himself. So no, Battle Network was never this hard.

That's it kid, back to r*ddit you go.

>Is the difficulty and fast pace enough to ruin the game?
Nah, its pretty fun. Once you learn what's going on, its not TOO horrible.
Except trying to kill the shopkeep, I cannot comprehend some of her attacks, even using time slow.

If you wanna make the game managable don't fill your deck with situational spells or ones that require you to position very awkwardly. When you don't have to think about your own spells you can focus on dodging enemy attacks.

I'd say it depends on the person. For me, It IS a little too fast paced. It's too much going on at the same time, especially when you have multiple enemies attacking you, some enemies doing something on a timer and trying to manage what cards you have in your hand at any given time. I'll probably play a little bit more to see if I get the hang of it but it's just a tad too fast for me.

No, it wasn't. One Step from Eden is literally Kaizo Battle Network. It's exactly like those bullshit hacked fight videos you see of BN6 on youtube.

It's not THAT hard, it's just structured like a roguelite. You aren't meant to win until you really git gud. BN was designed to be beatable by anyone with a semi-functional brain.

If I said this game felt like a fusion of BN and the Zero games, would that make sense to anyone?

I assume the game isn't 20 dollars good, huh?

just keep playing and eventually you'll get better. this type of gameplay is just a matter of experience.

it was supposed to be free but then the dev turned turbo jew

mmm elaborate?

Is there a download of it floating around yet, or do not enough people even care about it? I want to try the actual product before I decide if my wallet will open. I don't trust a demo that came out before the game was finished.

Not him but it's really hard, really fast paced, but the gameplay is BN instead of Zero. I think the Zero series is a little easier because there's only so much going on at the screen at any given time, this game can get messy at times. Honestly? Buy it and refound it if you don't like it. 2 Hours is plenty to know if you are going to like it or not.

Shiso's cowboy's skin is the best.
>deal 300 damage with normal weapon
Fuck, I'm having too much fun and I've only beaten the game with shopkeeper so far while killing everyone.

oh okay. This game hits the spot honestly. It's like playing BN without getting stuck in dialogue for minutes at a time its just pure gameplay. Im surprised no one has come up with this before.

how do you even dodge the shopkeeper's attacks?

Cheese her with the link spell so that she one shot herself.

anyone know how to unlock alt loadouts? also even though i managed to beat the game with the shopkeeper, i didnt unlock her outfit, anyone know where is it from?

There's like a billion BN pet projects going on that no one ever finishes.

>it was supposed to be free
When was this? It's been at PAX, etc. You don't get PAX booth for a free game.

It can still be free, if you know what I mean

>it was supposed to be free
I've been following this for a while, and I have no memory of that. It's worth $20, easy.

>he didn't preorder the game on kickstarter for 25% off

my wife, Lea, who is depicted in this video, is so cute and strong.

>Kikestarting games
Not worth the risk, man

Demos are such a rarity nowadays that putting one out confuses people.

the demo they had at the time was already really solid, and when you already have a more or less completed game core, everything else is just adding extra content, so it felt like a pretty safe bet to me

>maybe if I call someone a jew, people will believe me
This game was never intended to be free.

>got a Shanghai.EXE mod before a Rockman.EXE mod

That is actually just curly brace

The style of the pixel art annoys me a lot although objectively is very well animated and looks nice. Anyone else thinks so or is just that im a retard?

Everything in the game referances something. Even the gameplay mechanics are just a mashup of Battle Network and Slay the Spire.
You dob't need original ideas if you make a fun product though.

Is this one of those games that will end up getting more content down the line, or is it more or less "complete"?

Shame, I'm no good at the rougelites that require reflex like Gungeon or Nuclear Throne. Could you bullshit your way to victory just by getting really lucky with chips or whatever?

Enemies can be pretty indistinct when they're so pixelated, black, and in the volcano/dark area

The former but it's in a pretty solid """complete""" state as is.

>you're SUPPOSED to step on the musical note squares during the violinist's boss fight

That, and also that the character sprites looks minimalistic

Well yeah, they're green, like every other buff tiles.

I got it on Switch since I could basically get it for free via Nintendo Gold points.

look, if a boss is throwing something at me, I'm going to avoid it

That's understandable user, don't worry.

I'm gonna try inserting Marina at some point this week. The clashing art styles will probably look terrible but I want to try it anyway.

I mostly dislike pixel art being combined with very smooth, high res UI elements. Looks very lazy, especially if the wrong fonts are used.

I think the game would be a lot easier to parse visually if they made the buster work like BN; no visible projectile, just a plink on the enemy. As is you're always firing the standard weapon and it's like a light show going on on top of everything else

You can make broken braindead shield builds but you really have to highroll. And you'll probably die early on before your deck comes together if you really suck at the combat.

NOOOOOOOOOOO MY THREE DOLLARS

To be fair while the coloring is the same as money pickups, any spell that uses the same mechanic and health, you can easily not have encountered any of that by the time you first fight her.
Especially when she and many enemies have attacks that use the same "mark the floor tiles" warning

It's a refreshingly complete game. No waiting for new characters down the line or anything like that, it's all there now.

Holy shit I wish I were half as good as this.

>casually break the game

It's complete, all the characters, spells, styles, and outfits are in.

You can play it all from start to end. Only thing they could add is dlc or more mods
