The kiss was the last thing wrong with '06.

The game would still be trash, and her whole character whole still be trash. But it would have been an improvement, not only to that scene, but all the others that lead up to it. Then it would be just a bad story, instead of an awful and awkward one.

It changed the moment the people behind Sonic grew completely unaware of how to make Sonic cool yet insisting that they should try.

I don't think it ever changed, unless you're one of those niggers who think that giving Sonic a voice completely ruined him. But even when they did, they were still clearly trying to effect the same kind of attitude he had when he was silent, so I don't think he has changed much at all.

As awful as 06 was, it's story was the natural evolution as to what the Adveture games were leading up. The Adventure games were a mistake, and I am still baffle there are fans that pretend those games were good to begin with.

Eh, they were closer to the classics than whatever they were doing in the comics and cartoons, so there is that. Sonic really only hit the right tone between 06 and Colours, and these games were hated by critics so there is that

I am not even going to go on gameplay, because that's a can of worms were I admit that to each their own, though I think they should at least try to polish the Sonic levels to begin with, instead of trying to add multiple playable characters.

But the Adventure games are the point where they went full Fanfiction with the storyline. user said that 06 went for the Final Fantasy approach, but that already hapenend in Adventure 1, between Chaos, ancient Echidna tribes and such, just without the human characters. Then Adventure 2 happen, with the whole Ultimate Life form.

Besides, ok, previous games have the tradition to add at least one new character per game, but around Adventures thing started to get out of hand, which wouldn't be so bad, if they didn't pretend to also give them playable levels (again, just polish the base game, don't add extra content for the sake of it)

In 06, Blaze and Silver are survivors of an apocalyptic world, and jump between skyscrapers and stuff. She(Blaze) controls fire and he's psychic.Their world is doomed to burn in eternal fire spawned by the monster Iblis, which can't be completely destroyed, but over the course of the story, they learn that the Chaos Emeralds can seal Iblis flames in another being. They defeat Iblis and Silver attempts to seal Iblis onto himself, but he is rejected. Blaze absorbs Iblis instead, because "her soul is already a lit in flames", and slowly burns up and fades away into the sky, defeating Iblis. This timeline is erased by time travel by Sonic, fixing the future and destroying Iblis before he ever became a threat.

In Rush, Blaze is princess in another dimension, still with fire powers. But in this life she's afraid of heights, which would make sense IF she was reincarnated from 06 where she rose to heaven while dying. This is a nice theory in the fandom.

Knuckles was Sonic’s rival in 3 and then filled the quota for the strong guy of Sonic’s circlejerk group, Blaze is or was supposed to be Sonic’s dimensional counterpart who had an opposite ideology of upholding responsible compared to Sonic’s carefree attitude, and Silver’s the time traveler. The only redundant character here is Shadow, and he was supposed to stay dead in SA2. I’m not entirely sure what correlation you see between these characters and Eggman or Metal.

Maybe he meant either Blaze or Shadow, but not both, but still, none of them was later used as they were intended anyway. Sometimes I think things would have been better for Blaze is she just had her own line of spin off games, instead of being forced into the main ones. She is actually a cool character, but they don't know what to do with her! At least Shadow has his "edgy team B" going on with Rouge and Omega now.

Every single one of them is a dumb rival character invented solely for the purpose of one game and bound to one particular location (or point in time, in Silver's case). Once that game is up every single appearance they have thereafter is completely shoehorned and usually doesn't make much sense, Adventure 1 being somewhat of an exception for Knuckles, but every game featuring Knuckles afterwards is pretty fucking bad about giving him a reason to be there or making him relevant.

Eggman is Sonic's main rival and the driving force behind almost every game and Metal also makes sense being around because he's Eggman's most effective creation (and more of a direct, on the ground physical threat than Eggman, who has to use power suits) and the two work together often even if they sometimes have different agendas, both of them have the goal of defeating Sonic and that hasn't changed after their intro games.

Nah, all the existing ones are still around one way or another, the only MIA is Marine from Rush 2. You can even count "Classic Sonic" as a new member of the Sonic Friends.

But now the trend seems to be adding a new side Villains each game. Really, whys is Zavoc still around?

That's the problem with the bloated Sonic main cast, there's one too many characters you can make spinoff games from. When you see them do jackshit in the mainline games, it stings because we know they can do so much more but can't because Sonic's the focus. I would love to see a game based solely around Blaze, or a an actually good Shadow game, hell I wouldn't even mind a Silver game. But making games is incredibly time consuming and expensive, so the thought of this must be awful for such an incompetent team like Sonic Team.

If you take a look at the franchise it was really 2006 when things went downhill but it had precursors. When a lot of games have one bad game, they're able to move on and do at least a decent project. Sonic literally had the trio of that garbage gameboy port, 06, and then Secret Rings. Wouldn't have been as bad if they werent trying to do a bunch of gimmick games and instead focused on actually making a good mainline entry. Hell even Sonic Riders, which was a decent spinoff series, crashed and burned when they fell for the kinect meme.

Reminder that Sonic was originally going to have a human girlfriend in the first game.
