Has it aged well?

Has it aged well?
It set a good foundation for the sequels/successors to build on and refine into great games
Not sure how anyone could say Dark Souls is one of the best in the series, maybe it's elitism, maybe it's nostalgia, maybe it's just their first Souls game

Demon's Souls is even better.

it was my second souls game and honestly i liked it a lot but I wouldn't consider it the best in the series. i know the soul/soulless thing is a meme but this game had some areas with a lot of soul in it and i could see how some people would be convinced that it's the best in a lot of areas.

Yes
It has great ambitions and refines the formula set by Demon's Souls. Often times it is successful but sometimes it does fail. Dark Souls still has the best world design that hasn't been repeated and the healing system is such an obvious improvement over grass yet From seems to go back and forth with between the two set ups. The individual levels themselves are fantastic. And i love that you can't teleport from the get go gives the game a great sense of adventure. Also like how it's not afraid to hide a huge amount of content from the player.

No.
It's aged worse than Demon's Souls in terms of combat, and everything else has been done better in later games.
The only thing is has left is the world design, and some small QoL stuff like leveling at bonfires.

>aged
ur a faggot

I'm genuinely baffled at how people can think DS1 is better than DS2 or DS3

It has the best world design, characters, exploration, lore and set pieces of the Souls series.

2 is the worst game. The main shit from the first 3 games (atmosphere, bosses, and level design) are basically MIA from DaS2

People that prefer 2 and 3 over 1 have genuine brain damage
Not that they're bad games but they did so much to try and ruin the series and appeal to casuals

I'm baffled how people can even compare DS2 to the rest.
Even King's Field is better.

It always was garbage. Only pretentious underage nigger like this shit.

>dark souls 2

obviously didn’t realize how broken the hit boxes in that game were

It has worse enemies, combat, bosses, music, atmosphere, narrative, level design, etc, when compared to Bloodborne. It's crazy how much BB outclasses it.

Keep coping.

Demon Souls is garbage and the worst Souls entry, only retarded fucks like (You) pretend otherwise. Stop tricking people into playing this heaping pile of hot garbage

Well, they took what they learned from DeS and DaS and perfected it in Bloodborne.
That doesn't make those games any less great.

Structurally it's still the best, but in terms of individual pieces of content it's definitely been surpassed many times over. Any random boss in DaS3 or Sekiro beats out the best DaS bosses.

No, but standards change.

Maybe it's the fact that nothing since has had a moment like taking the elevator from Undead Parish.

Demon's Souls has better combat, level design, and atmosphere then Dark Souls 1/2

It was good?

Looks like ass and the controls were jank. I tried it after finishing DS3 and it's easily the worst soulslike game

pretty zoomer statement tbqh

>aged well
You're assuming the game was good in the first place when it's not

Feel free to explain.
Do think that the impact, relevance, and standards that Space Invaders or Centipede enjoyed have gone unchanged? What about silent films? How many do you watch these days? I will guess zero. I will even guess you've probably never seen a black-and-white film on your own accord.

First it was Ocarina of Time.
Now everyone pretends that Dark Souls is a bad game.

The contrarian olympics are in full force.

No it's not kill yourself decrepit boomer.

Yeah, they go down every year.

The Passion of Joan of Arc is one of my favourite movies and I went to watch the restoration of Metropolis in cinema.
Try again, kiddo.

>he doesn't watch and read the works of Tennessee Williams
fuck out of here, pleb

because its a proper adventuring game with secrets, sense of discovery and a dark fairy tale like feeling to it
the sequels try to be action games and they are worse because of that. I have played ds1 the least in the series but its my favorite
Hoping elden ring will top it since it takes inspiration from SotC

It aged fine, but they should've finished Lost Izalith in the remaster.

Always amazes me how DS2 babbies vehemently defend their garbage game, even going so far as saying the original 2 entries are worse. Fucking laughable reddit secondaries.

If you haven't seen an original print of Metropolis, you unironically are a zoomer. And if Passion if Joan of Arc is really one of your favorite movies, I'm sure you have the Criterion blu-ray. Feel free to post your copy with time stamp or when you downloaded your proper digital copy.

>Thinking I don't.
Literally one good screenplay—only because of Marlon fucking Brando—and a bunch of garbage. Feel free to post your Marlon Brando signed VHA copy.

The remaster was done by a third company.
FROM had nothing to do with it.

I just wish they would make one themselves. Or maybe even an editor like they did for Kings Field 1.

These “standards” you’re talking about are just whiny zoomers who want games to be easier so they don’t have to spend much time playing them. Rampant consumerism has made people buy 10x more video games every year than they did just a decade ago, so they demand games be shorter and not have any challenge so they can quickly get through it and move onto the next one. People want video games to be the same thing as watching a movie and they freak out if a game makes them have to use their brain.

Atmosphere can trump many things when done as well as it is in Dark Souls 1

I'm aware of that. I only wish they had put in the effort to actually remaster it and add/fix content instead of just messing with it graphically. I can't imagine it'd have taken a whole team at FROM to polish a few areas and enemies.

Thanks for confirming that you're just trolling.
So you actually do know that DeS and DaS are masterpieces.

>N-NOOO MY REDDIT BOGEYMAN
>Y-YYOU SECONDARY
Kill yourself you fucking pretentious fuck

Demon Souls was never good and never will.

you get em redditbro

I came back to it after Sekiro

It's trash jim, the only thing it have going was the interconnected world. Remaster was an embarrassment too

I'd rather see them trying new things.

It is tho.

>implying you're not a secondary
Your game is a broken, ugly unfinished chinese outsourced mess, and the PVP you tote as the sole best selling point isn't even functional.

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof movie adaptation is amazing, I put that over Streetcar anyday

The games are fine, but they're just primitive and worse than later entities. Metropolis, SCND, and Passion are fine too... but they're not on the level of The Thing.

Attached: 1569364794949.jpg (768x825, 277.87K)

That's not what I'm talking about at all actually.

>implying you're not a pretentious underage
>thinks he has superior taste because muh classic game
Trash is trash no matter how you spin it and that is Demon Souls.

COPE

The overall movie is better, and I want to nut in Liz, but you can't beat Brando. I'm probably a little biased here because I really like Brando.

Has the highest highs and lowest lows

Dark Souls 2 is broken as fuck

I seriously can't remember other bosses from Demon Souls aside from Allant and Flamelurker. It's been 5 years since I played that game. I still think it's their weakest Souls entry but nevertheless I enjoyed it

I like the series equally, except DS2 which is a piece of shit.
Try replying to me with a basedjak face next or something, you're not doing too hot lad.

Dark Souls 1 IS the best in the series.
It has still the best progression, world design, and pacing.

DS2 doesnt even need to be reurgitated at this point. We all know why it failed.

DS3 is a good game, but suffers terribly from trying to poorly copy Bloodborne ideas, uninspired world and area design, and overall just feeling like DS1 DLC, that's slightly worse than the main game

>still at it
>N-NONONO STOP DISLIKING WHAT I LIKE
I like the series equally, except Demon Souls which is an irredeemable canine feces.
Try again with your Reddit boogeyman and don't let DS2 live in your head too much, that's not healthy.

It's okay double nigger you have a shit taste and let's just leave it at that.

trying too hard

This but unironically, but hey sequels are supposed to better anyway. I started with BB first and played with DS1 last and dropped it after Tomb of the Giants because I got bored, the terrible graphics don't help either

It's still playable, but outside of world design I think it has nothing that it does better compared to the other games in the series. And it feels very janky.

fpwp
fucking lmao

I love it but why the fuck do summoning signs/invasions disappear the second you walk in another doorway

>Has it aged well?
yes
