Soul. They still are.
>view sonic
>half life 2
???
Why not?
digital foundry said we're all cum guzzling retards for giving it up in the first place
>tfw playing 1080i@170hz on my crt
It feels so good bros, why did we leave this superior display technology?
Yes
Enjoy your shitty black levels on LCD
I don't know.
Judge for yourself
Can you repeat the question? xD
Now that's some bullshit, they said that the reason people gave them up was for convenience which is true, and since then people retroactively changed the reason into an issue of quality.
CRT is a far better technology than LCD
The only reason we don't use them anymore is that they're big, loud and clunky
Soul vs soulless
OLED has technically rendered them obsolete.
>muh burnin
Only poor copefags falsely claim burnin

They're the best consumer panels. Playing the Silent Hill games on the PS2 is a joy (perfect blacks), and HDR games look stunning.
>???
???
I had my ViewSonic A90 up until 2008 (got it in 2000).
>this technology is much better if you ignore the massive flaws that made us abandon the technology in the first place
They're good for everything 6th gen and back. Older games are definitely superior to play on CRT.
The results are much better. The image is much better.
Yes unironically. The only advantage any flat screen technology ever had was size. Even a mid-range CRT was objectively better than professional flat screen monitors now in every way.
is this board literally filled with memster zoomies?
have any of those advocates of crt ever dealt with consumer-grade crt? They were pain in the ass to use, bulky, heavy, expensive and dangerous to service when busted.
it's shame to see old tech die completely, crt's had their merits (black balance, refreshrate), but lcd replaced it for a reason.
Better for games designed for it. Same as a game designed for a limited color scale vs one that just allows a filter to replicate one.
theyre supposedly better for refresh rate/latency but modern panels are sorta caught up now
Yeah, it was replaced because people stopped having souls. You'd understand if you weren't a fucking zoomer shithead yourself.
Yes, speaking for image quality only, the only drawback is lower resolution but everything else looks better.
Couldn't you just recreate the left on the right
>but everything else looks better.
Except your eyes after extended use.
not without making boomers cry so not worth it
>CRTs never seared the eyes
In what fucking dimension
Yes.
user, that was the point of my post, CRT sucked for your eyes.
>bro just put some water on them, not a big issue
>consumer-grade crt
Yeah the stuff about superior black levels never matched my experience, always looked like washed out shit on the cheap crt tvs my family had.
Maybe your family shouldn't have been poor then
They were better for a long time.
They still could be better if buult with modern technology, but its very expensive
Yes it is, you can see it in most threads.
I bought a 25" trinitron a couple of years ago and I love it. Weighs 35kg but my ps1 & ps2 never looked better.
Don't they have terrible input lag and low frequency rates
Man, viewsonic was the first ever monitor our family ever had
Even all these years later I have a viewsonic monitor, I'm a bit sad though that they removed the bird logo from the front of the monitors
>You now remember how your old CRT heated up the room during winter and made it comfy
Yes, CRT's were better for the longest time, until 2010's LCD panels were really bad, however right now we have IPS monitors with 144hz
All of these people wasting money on CRT's right now are morons
>viewed on my lcd screen
Looks like dogshit and it seems this discussion is just to soothe nostalgia.
>having to turn off all light to prove your point
Now show a crt with all the lights on
>tfw was lucky enough to get ahold of a really nice new-old-stock type optiquest Q71 (which im using right now)
>bird logo missing
These are great and I use them myself, on an IPS monitor, but this only proves that older games were made to use tricks to look better with CRT’s
The VIEWSONIC XG2405 is the next monitor I'm going to get to replace my 10 year old Samsung
May someone could suggest anything better for a similar price?
Taking full advantage of a standard in visual medium to produce an even higher quality product isn't the same as being "made to use tricks"
"optimization" would be a better description
I’d call dithering using tricks rather than optimisation
I have and old CRT and nothing to use it with. I'm gonna wait till i get paid and get a Wii so I can Homebrew it
>Only poor copefags falsely claim burnin
They do burn in, even the expensive ones.
My friend has 3 oleds and obsesses about caring for the screens and they still permanently retain images eventually.
When he notices the cleaning function no longer gets the screen perfect he sells them before it gets too bad and buys another new one.
making boomers cry is the only reason to do anything these days.
Look at the filename, schizo.
I took that photograph, but I didn't post it this time.
Yes but today you can just use Retroarch's shaders to simulate CRT scaling, and activate ULMB/BFI to simulate CRT motion handling. The problem is that last one is kind of dying because none of you fuckers use or even know about it
>tfw no modern gpus with vga output
The progression of consumer technology is rarely about greater quality, and almost always about lowering what consumers deem "acceptable", along with lowering production costs. This is why we live in the LCD timeline.
