I played the first one and it is really, really bare bones. There is like one continuous side quest that is just justifying following the story and killing mobs on the way. The controls are janky even by IF standards. There is zero openness to the maps or game.

And the VN sections suck. The only nuanced idea is choosing bad ends gives you items.

It's a JRPG that's actually just a visual novel. You control characters in overworld maps/dungeons but it's go from point A to point B to trigger ten minutes of dubbed VN. Collect five rare drops to unlock the next scene.

To include one or the other, they only have to replace some image files. To have both, they need to have functions that lets the player pick one or the other, and if the game is poorly coded (It's a low-budget Japanese game so I'm sure it is), they might also need to add several checks in different places to check which ones the player is using.
