Yeh, it seems like it would be almost impossible to build one of the large walkers due to the time it would take you would most certainly be discovered. Although I'm not sure if players can attack structures or not.

I disagree, game devs need to take a page out of SS13's book and allow players to be the monsters. Shogun 2 did it, and suddenly that tiny faction your picking on can be scary if a player hops in.

How does this stop players from hopping into a random monster in the world and playing it? It would make fights a lot more interesting and challenging and would provide a way for developers to got out of the dps/tank/healer meta design because a player isn't going to be convinced to focus the tank and ignore the dress wearer. Ai will simply never be as challenging as other players unless it can be reduced to simple things like RTSs where build orders, APM, and stutter stepping bullshit are involved.

That's a fun little concept, but would mostly suck in a persistent MMO.
In an open ended game with lots of freedom on progress most monsters are either stronger or weaker than the player. So only a few niche monsters could work like that.

Even if that was true, it doesn't mean you should just replace the AI with players.
Also, AI monsters can have much higher stats/stronger moves than the player in order to be challenging. That's how it works in every game.
