With the pandemic i found myself with a load of free time on my hands and want to delve into a MMO again since i almost never have enough time to do so. I'm split between WoW Classic and FFXIV
WoW was my favorite game in my teen years and i never had as much fun with any game as i did with Wotlk, but giving money to Blizzard doesnt sit well with me. Also i hear Final Fantasy is the better game excluding nostalgia but playing through the trial i feel the start is painfully slow
Story wise FFXIV feels more fulfilling as a personal story then WoW. You are never side lined as the Warrior of Light unlike the Champion of Azeroth who is constantly shat on by the lead characters.
In the latest expansion especially it's all about YOUR journey and your actions rather then WoWs tag along champion errandboy quest.
Landon Wood
They're both absolute garbage but, in its current state, XIV wins out. Not out of its own merit, WoW is just that bad right now and for the foreseeable future.
Josiah Parker
Both of those games are terrible though.
Camden Cooper
I have a shit ton of /played hours in wow but unless your invested and have friends to play it with you are better off playing final fantasy.
Isaac Ortiz
I imagine this guy to sound like Forrest Gump with the way he talks. Also damn Erik is a saint for putting up with him.
why do i only see people talking about wow classic when it comes to wow?
Matthew Scott
Because modern WoW is fucking garbage, what do you think?
Tyler Green
i was just wondering because i assumed there has to be some kind of merit to play live,im just surprised nobody talks about them both as one whole thing
Lucas Anderson
They share a sub, but they're two entirely separate games.
Dylan Smith
Unless you have friends to do mythic content with there is no reason to play live
Hunter Parker
wow is all about the end game. Grind to max level through relevant content as fast as you can and then do daily random world quests to farm up magical artifact power so you can do dungeons and raids
xiv is more about world building and story telling with a lot of focus on side content like crafting. The game starts as soon as you log in and while you can pay money not to play the game and skip to the end you're really screw yourself over if you do
also not to be biased but wow is currently mostly ghost town servers while xiv is actively growing so you'll have full communities in the later.
being involved doesn't mean anything if you feel like a clunky ass boring npc. WoW is dumbed down right now but it feels better.
Chase Rodriguez
why ?
Joseph Ward
your explanation managed to be completely subjective and unquantifiable
why does it "feel better"
Xavier Sanchez
Engaging combat (not the best, but fun) Good solo/group content (doesn't feel like a single RPG like FF, but can be played as such if you want) Professions are cool Decent graphics Often updated Expansion coming soon Balanced Developers care about the game believe it or not People playing don't seem to be braindead like in WoW
Carson Miller
not him, but lack of server tick and 1.5s gcd baseline, 1.0 on some classes, and haste works to lower gcd in a much stronger way than skill speed does in XIV since skill speed gets most of its value out of auto attack damage and dot tick damage
Cameron Mitchell
I always figured DNC was the easiest
Bentley Jones
...
Grayson Jackson
damn, i started playing XIV just for RDM. is this a a "boring" class or is it just a case of simpler when compared to other classes sort of thing?
Jonathan Turner
little of both if you can get down with things that are simple it's enjoyable, but if you're looking for depth, stop
Both are utter garbage, they're practically the same except wow has better pvp, raids and bigger areas.
Jaxson Gray
0/10
Hunter Hall
im not looking for depth in an MMO, just enjoyability. how is DRG,MNK, and DRK? just some other classes i was interested in.
Noah Stewart
yeah man how dare he talk shit about xiv pvp and world content that is fucked up xiv raids are better but wow dungeons are actual fucking content at least
XIV is fun for a bit. Endgame is lacking if you want a more hardcore raiding scene
Angel Lopez
Having grown up with WoW you probably have an idea in your head of what an "MMO" is. If you go into FFXIV expecting an "MMO" as you picture it, you will be annoyed and disappointed. It is not a sandbox-world character-building sort of thing in any way. It's a Final Fantasy themepark with a long JRPG storyline.
It's good at being a themepark, but people go in expecting something different and get frustrated by it. Some people even play for years without ever being able to accept its themepark nature and just getting more bitter and ornery as time goes on.
FFXIV has the worse combat out of every MMO it's slow and braindead garbage and god forbid if you're leveling enjoy pressing 1 2 3 over and over in low level dungeons
Camden Brooks
DRK is apparently boring for some people. I like it even if it is very simple. At the VERY least play the 30-50 dungeons. I also really liked 60-70 as well. Read your journals during DRK quests.
DRG is fun but very rigid and everyone hates you. I play it when I am drinking because people expect you to fuck up and I want to jump high and look cool while fucking up.
Jason Hughes
>Some people even play for years without ever being able to accept its themepark nature and just getting more bitter and ornery as time goes on. Can confirm because I did this Once I started pretending it's Monster Hunter or something I started to actually enjoy it
Adrian Myers
either 2/10 bait or you didn't get past level 30
Robert Sanchez
To be fair all the classes are pretty dull to play until you hit 50.
Leo Foster
>WoW was my favorite in my teen years Welp, that game is gone now, what you liked about the game (community, discovery, battles, etc.) doesn't exist in that form anymore, now the community is just sperg kids running around, everyone has to follow a guide, and battles are boring as fuck because everyone knows what to do, so there is no danger, and getting into a guild to make "hard" content is literally not worth it, but it is great to fuck around for a little while and level up.
On the other hand, XIV is story driven, so you will have to do a shit ton of quests to get to endgame and you can do pretty much anything without a guild, if you like JRPGs then XIV will most likely be up your alley, as long as you can survive the beginning until the first expansion and then some more, good thing is that the visuals and gameplay are pretty good since it is the newer game in comparison to WoW.
tldr; either one is ok to play, but both focus on whole different things
Camden Martinez
WoW classic is a better rpg/mmo. FFXIV is a better arcade raid simulator.
Jeremiah Martinez
>Combat wise ff14 wins FFXIV has more complex raiding and PVE shit, but WoW combat feels immensely fucking better, especially vs other players. You actually experience a sense of momentum and weight when you move your character and abilities have a tactile feel to them that XIV completely lacks.
Easton Kelly
>cancer that killed MMOs >or cancer that keeps MMOs dead just pick your fucking poison
Easton Price
Yeah but the abilities in XIV have a warm feel and a richer fragrance than WoW
No, but I'm not sure what your point is. "Feel" is a completely subjective concept, but like a typical autist you expect a binary explanation that doesn't exist. I can't measure momentum in an imaginary world.
Jackson Garcia
if you still care about runescape and are one of the few people like me who still play RS3, they're releasing the new skill Archaeology in a few days.
Then why would you say you experience a sense of momentum when playing
Lincoln Smith
because movement in WoW has a feeling of momentum and weight and XIV is floaty and static.
Jack Phillips
How? WoW abilities don't even have varied animations when just showcasing the effects alone is enough to send a crowd into cheers during xiv xpac releases.
Connor Evans
>it's an XIV fags don't understand basic nuances of video game movement episode
Benjamin Morgan
as of shadowbringers Dancer is the easiest. but all that changed about Red Mage was adding another button after Verholy/flare
Christopher Robinson
>when just showcasing the effects alone is enough to send a crowd into cheers during xiv xpac releases. yes, i'm well aware that XIV players clap like sea lions when they see the new flashing shiny lights on the screen.
Camden Gray
if in EU XIV's a dead game >only time you can queue for raids and dungeons is between 5pm and 10pm without 30+ wait time >paying a monthly fee to be told when you can play >"sorry bros can't come out tonight I have to raid" >"why did I come to the bar I could be raiding" >cringe story >autistic playerbase >store for semi interesting mounts and clothes, can't unlock them it's boring too, I've maxed out most classes, run all the dungeons and raids since 5.2 and even if you wanted to run Palace of the dead or equivalent to unlock glowy cosmetics you can't because nobody's online to party with night workers have no chance
you could sink a good few months to a year into it and get mild enjoyment out of it as a time killer but there is ZERO end game fulfilment. you will finish basically everything and say "what now" >developers take this as "quick push out more content" >single hallway spaced between bosses on square platforms with mildly complicated mechanics
Devs can't even muster the strength to genuinely care anymore and make it as gay as possible. it used to be cute and entertaining but it plateaus basically straight away looooong before any of the expansions leaving just the tranny bunnys and paedophile goblins
WoW is old, looks it and feels it, so old you will never catch up and almost as autistic
