They didnt, they just stopped getting translated.

which ones aren't translated?

They tried to make the formula more modern but failed to be good it, like Natural Doctrine.

Was Banner of the Maid any good?

>tfw Square Enix publishes gay gacha shit instead of making a new Final Fantasy Tactics

They've always been a niche genre.

Boring grindfest.

Not releasing them for PC

the only good tactics game is Shadow Tactics

change. my. mind.

They didn't, the new ones are just H-games now
H-games always play catch up to regular games since as time goes on it's easier to replicate old styles for inde/small studios

Gamers in general became less autistic over time, same reason we don't get as many point-and-click adventures any more

They're still tied down to grids when they don't have to be

There's literally dozens if not hundreds of them. Revenge of Justice came out like yesterday. I mean, it's probably shit compared to FF Tactics and Tactics Ogre, but I'd take anything at this point.

They release in Japan pretty regularly. It's just not seen as a popular enough genre in the west to bother translating.

Which ones are there?

anyone else play this and drop it because it was awful

I have played Tactics Ogre so much over the years. Literally the 1 game that has never left my PS Vita. Shits great to sink time into during flights and shit.

Advance Wars and Front Mission would like to have a word.

What's wrong with Natural Doctrine? You too much of a casual? I am.

I dunno, I kinda feel like they've had a mini resurgence.

they didn't

They didn't. They've been revitalized as shitty mobile gacha games. Thanks based nip necromancers.

>Tried to play Tactics Ogre
>Think it's cool at first
>MP takes too long to regen at first
>Try to use bows a lot but make the mistake of investing in Crossbows instead which suck
>Almost all my units do shit for damage even with good equipment
>Monsters take NO damage and are an ordeal to fight
>Nearly all classes are niche and only exist to fulfill some small role then be useless otherwise
>RuneFencer is absolute shit
>Ally AI just runs face first to the enemy blades and is entirely useless, especially bad when you have to rescue the AI
Anons, please just tell me how to git gud. I truly wanna give this game a chance but it just feels so user unfriendly.

Nobody wants to fight a battle that takes an entire hour.

aerial units will fucking carry your ass

you can duo most story battles with canopus+a griffin if you have them bumrush the enemy backline

most of the difficulty in the game comes from having to wade through terrain disadvantage, which aerial units eliminate

Oh yeah, Canopus was easily my best unit and probably the only one truly getting kills. If I could've had like 5 more of him but with bows and arrows, the game would've been laughably easy. Any other tips?

They're 2slow

ok zoomer

ur mum's a zoomer

It's true though.

Never in my life i've seen so much tactical rpg threads.
Is this related to the new gacha tactics square enix published for mobile games?

Like "lemme mention tactical rpgs and casually mention gachatactics to promote it"

OH WAIT

Nice conspiracy theory fag. I posted that because I played the first couple of story chapters of the gacha game and then uninstalled it because it's a disappointing watered down piece of shit. I didn't even create this thread.

Weebs are too dumb for tactical games.

No gameplay, hundreds of hours of cutscenes featuring waifu wailing over wardrobe malfunction or being peeked at by MC at the hotspring. It's a good thing that the genre is dying in Japan.

Been pirating as many Switch games as possible to play during quarantine. Are any of these even vaguely worth playing?

Wargroove
Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix
Fell Seal Arbiter's Mark
God Wars The Complete Legend

Ah, ole Field of Glory II

FFT set the bar too high and nobody could get anywhere close, so they stopped trying

You misspelled Tactics Ogre

Lobbers and damaging items make weak units capable, and are one of the few ways to save that guy who is being attacked in an early mission.

Fell Seal is great

>Merc Wings
Ugh, don't. I bought that and the other trilogy while on sale and it runs on 15 frames like some ugly phone game, feels kinda clunky and doesn't feel very balanced. But you're getting it for free so by all means try it and see if you hate it.
I never really understood how lobbers work. What's the gimmick?

Lobbers are like hand held catapults that allow units to throw items. You can lob healing items from afar to make anyone a ranged healer, and with damaging items it allows your weaker units to deal damage they normally couldn't from the safety of the other side of rough terrain.

XCOM, Mechanicus, can't think of any others off of the top of my head in recent years.
Not counting fire emblem since that's went to pot

Job system is OP. Fits FFT far better than the actual mainline games, everything else becomes a poor imitation.

I had no idea, that sounds broken as shit. Thanks, I'll give it a try.
>FFT team and Ivalice Alliance people are all stuck working on FFXIV
>Will never see another FFT/TA game because they'd rather have those teams doing other stuff
I just got through FFTA1 and 2 again recently and you have no idea how much I crave a third game. It fucking hurts.

>switch and ps4
They should release this shit on Steam. If they are lucky someone would make an English translation mod for it for free

Why the fuck would a Japanese only game release on PC instead of consoles? The Japanese PC gaming market is tiny.

Also there's nothing stopping people making fan translations for the Switch.

Crossbows aren't bad you faggot.

A team of Bows/Crossbows users can pretty much decimate the game.

Who said anything about Steam only release? They can still do consoles too

>Also there's nothing stopping people making fan translations for the Switch.
Except the fact you need to hack your Switch so only pirates would actually play it

recently got the saturn emulator to work just to play this game. i need more shining force in my life.

anyone play crimson shroud on the 3ds? mix of tactics and D&D. pretty fun.

I played it because it was suggested in pic related.

Druidstone is really good for what it is. The scope is less epic than FFT, and it looks as clunky as its budget, but the gameplay is top notch. I was skeptical at first of how you build your characters by slotting cards onto them, but it worked great.

The genre was ruined by Disgaea

nice reddit prose

Japanese developers only bother making Steam releases if a game is already translated for the west because nips don't use Steam. Releasing a Japanese-only game like that for PC would be a waste of time and resources because everyone in Japan would buy the console versions and a fan translation might never even happen.

I wish Front Mission wasn't dead.
I still can't believe Squeenix dug it up just to piss on it's grave.

Attached: frontmission4.jpg (1094x1600, 362.78K)

Which is better between FFTA and Tactics Ogre: Knights of Lodis? Looking for something new to play.

>nips don't use Steam
If they play PC games they use Steam

my dude, I miss Front Mission like you wouldn't believe.

There's a pretty good game in a similar vein on PS2 called Ring of Red. You should emulate it sometime

The problem was I gave EVERYONE a crossbow and it became an issue when they needed to make shots a bow could make that a crossbow couldn't because terrain or some faggot would be block the trajectory.

It's a significantly smaller market than the console market which is why they don't bother releasing this kind of shit on PC until it hits the west.
