Was recently trying to do a playthrough of dark souls 1 with my friend. We got invaded 4 times early on each time the person was using modded gear and the last of which had the all doom rapier and bricked both out characters by egg heading us, perma cursing us, and a dozen other ailments we couldn't get rid of. Both had to make new characters so we just installed a mod that disabled invades.

Scraping spear hasn't been in a souls game in over a decade bro, it's safe to plug your ethernet cable back in now.

Low level Dark Souls pvp is cancer. I know, because I participated in it. I had a good low-level build of 30 that did PvP in the Depths while dressed as the old monk (including claws and giant head wraps) but I was always going to win, because I had 99 soft humanity and 99 hard humanity

On PC you have an argument for disconnecting since some faggots Cheat Engine the game and can shit your playthrough up.

Why haven't they added a "permission to invade" system yet? Better yet, why not add a "permission to kill" system instead?:

You should be backing up your save before or after every session honestly. I had someone try to corrupt my save with like 5 characters with NG+ playthroughs on it but fortunately FROM realized it wasn't my fault and removed the penalty warning without actually penalizing me.
