So I never played DOOM before and I hear >yadda yadda yadda >it's cool >it's badass >you feel unstoppable.
So ya, I tried it and I'm having fun... but what in the hell is everyone talking about? I never felt so completely fragile in a game in my life. You're ALWAYS on the cusp of losing all your health, you're ALWAYS on the cusp of running out of ammo. You can't slug it out with the enemies; they'll melt your health in a second. Did people say that to sound cool?
What difficulty are you playing on? Are you using the chainsaw frequently? (It auto refills)
Leo Bennett
git gud
Henry King
what difficulty are you playing on
Nicholas Price
it's a shitty console shooter hyped up by shills
Brayden Diaz
>console shooter >plays like shit with a controller hmm
Michael Hernandez
i hope you're playing on Ultranightmare. remember the piñata triangle, burn for armor, chainsaw for ammo and glory kills for health; it should be second nature to you and you HAVE to exploit it. enemies are supposed to melt your health away but you have in your hands the means to reclaim that life, armor and ammo. frozen grenades are your friends for crowd conrtol. move and dash away constantly, if you're not dashing away mid air you are asking to be shot. In my opinion you should go for the following runes: slowing down time while aiming, glory kills from a distance and either increse stun time or surviving a death blow. and its not shameful to lower the difficulty for Marauders, those shits are annoying and kinda strange to fight.
Angel Martin
normal.
now I'm not getting stuck on the game. I'm progressing (waiting for the marauder to prison-fuck me though)... I'm just saying, the feeling of unstoppable power is not there. I feel like a chicken kiting all the enemies every stage.
that's why I made this thread, moron.
Owen Price
NORMAL LMAOOOO
git gud faggot
Ryan Thompson
>i hope you're playing on Ultranightmare. bruh, why would I walk into the game fresh as a baby and play the hardest setting? (thanks for the tips though. it's appreciated).
Jace Lopez
blow me. no one is impressed.
Cameron Anderson
you missed the point, thats fine, but you were never meant to be overpowered
Camden Williams
Doomguy is undoubtedly overpowered. He has 10 total weapons, 3 of which can 1 shot almost every enemy, 8 of them have 2 weapon mods each that all do pretty ridiculous damage if applied well. SSG has the meathook which allows for insane mobility when combined with the dash and double jump. Grenade + icebomb and flamebelch for armor. Blood punch which can absolutely holocaust groups of small enemies. Absolutely destroys enemies in glory kills. The game is designed to make you feel overpowered as long as you take advantage of everything you have at your disposal, which you're obviously not. It also doesn't help that you're playing on normal.
I think Eternal was overhyped as shit but I have to say, I think you miss the point of a game making you feel “like an unstoppable bad ass”.
If enemies just popped like tissue paper when you looked at them, you wouldn’t feel like a bad-ass, you’d feel like a person on a lazy stroll. The enemies have to be extremely threatening and numerous, and your tools have to be powerful enough to match them, to make you feel strong, because it is in overcoming what ought to be impossible that you gain the sense of accomplishment.
Would a game about kicking crying toddlers make you feel like a badass?
Lucas Taylor
>haha if ur 1337 lik me, then ud understand that's how you sound.
Eli Young
meh, you guys are right. I just need to learn the game. it wasn't what I was expecting... but it's pretty cool.
Robert Ramirez
You are playing the game incorrectly by not using everything at your disposal and you go on Yas Forums and complain. Shut the fuck up.
Jaxson Ramirez
Doom Eternal is a weird game because for the first half of the game you're kind of forced to adapt to the flow of the combat before opening up. You can't exactly play it as any other shooter by using whatever weapon you want at first. Here's some general tips:
>Read the fucking demon codex entries They will give you hints on how to deal with a given enemy, their weakness and so on - not all of which the game tells you. >Find the enemy ammo-to-stagger/death threshhold Crucial when prioritizing targets: learning that a Whiplash can be killed in one rocket volley or just a few pops of the Plasama rifle can stagger any trash mob is going to be a lifesaver. >Keep mobile The new movement options aren't there to just look cool, use them as much as you can. Most normal enemies can track you pretty well if you move on foot so staying in the air and using the dashes is your best bet to avoid damage. >Learn the arena Being aware of the arena gives you a lot more of the abovementioned mobility options as well as allowing you to take cover from some enemies pressuring you to deal with another enemy. Using teleportert gates is also a great way to gain some breathing room. >Remember your equipment Using the Flame Belch is going to extend your lifespan greatly but it needs to be timed correctly so either on a group of trash mobs you can kill quickly or on a heavier enemy that's already staggered. Don't forget to use it on the stragglers and wandering zombies inbetween the arenas to refill your armor too. Grenades are great for staggering targets too. >Don't save the chainsaw Unless you really want to deal with a specific Heavy enemy, it's best to chainsaw any trash mob anytime you're running short on ammo to keep your supplies topped up. Fuel refils automatically to one pop when empty so don't be afraid to use it.
Xavier Hill
Not him but shut the fuck up with your retarded git guddery. I’m so fucking sick of every conversation about a game being “ha ha ur bad at it thats y u no like”.
Obviously OP’s expectations weren’t at all in line with what the game gave him and he’s here talking about that. He’s not saying “THE GAME IS SHIT I DIED”, he’s talking about feeling like he’s barely surviving in a game most people say makes you feel super-powerful. And he’s not entirely wrong in his assessment. And your dumb fanfaggot bullshit contributes nothing to the conversation and you don’t get any bonus e-dick points for letting someone know you’re good at something they’re struggling with.
Shitpost better.
Zachary Harris
>you need to know everything about the game in the first 20 minutes of playing dang, I don't remember that in the trailers...
roger, will do.
Evan White
>Did people say that to sound cool? Overcoming it, and getting through despite feeling like that is what makes it cool, more fun than most shooters as far as I'm concerned.
Liam Moore
Also playing on normal, also feel the same way. Enemies are more accurate and dangerous from the earliest parts of the game compared to Doom 2016, while you can hold less ammo at any given time. I appreciate that the chainsaw never goes below
The reason Eternal doesn’t have Rich Get Richer is because it’s impossible to actually play well enough to maintain a max armor value for any meaningful span of time, even with infinite ammo.
The game is designed around eating your HP in ways you can’t possibly hope to prevent in order to mandate your cycle of ability use to manage your resources.
Zachary Miller
every single shooter plays like shit with a controller and that's why they're bad.
Bentley Sullivan
Once you get into the rhythm it gets way better. Fighting past the learning curve is tough on harder difficulties, but i loved it in DOOM2016 and this is a little different but the accomplishment feels just as good.
Aiden Collins
I 100%’d the game on UV (and have no desire to re-run it on nightmare). I got good enough to have earned the right to shit-talk the game and shit-talk you, nigger.
Ethan Jackson
No, the game does not have rich get richer is because that thing reliably absolutely broke the game, it was unballanced as fuck, and if you want to play with cheats, you can still do that, it just won't let you unlock new leves with them.
Elijah Myers
>Would a game about kicking crying toddlers make you feel like a badass?
sure. whats more badass to kill babies. Maximum evil.
Elijah Rodriguez
the biggest thing you'll have to learn is actually using multiple weapons simultaneously, something completely foreign to most people nowadays. hence why people get frustrated and blame the game instead of learning how to do to achieve a better "gaming high". Pic very related.
You did not play this game on ultra nightmare, faggot. That shit is impossible.
Nicholas Carter
more volume = more gains just play the game and you'll get good. bump up the difficulty level if you don't feel you're improving. you're complaining yet from your responses you haven't even reached 1 hour of playtime
Robert Gray
>buy game >try melee first enemy >deals no damage enjoy your shit game
Julian Watson
Lol faggot
Luis Perry
If you want to feel like an unstoppable badass killing machine then play a lower difficulty (easy in your case) since you are literally unstoppable/unkillable.
Zachary Robinson
are you supposed to use the plasma rifle, i never used it throughout the whole game besides for shields
My best tip for you OP is to go for the dash upgrades ASAP and stick to ammo upgrades. Those are CRUCIAL for the game's fun factor and really shouldn't be an upgrade choice at all but just built in to the character.
Ryder Harris
Doom 2016 made you feel unstoppable. Eternal made it a bit more difficult so that players of 2016 didn't get bored. It has much more strategy in combat by needed to manage your ammo and shied a lot more than before. Play 2016 if you want to feel like a god, or get good and play Eternal.
Jayden Young
At least i'm not playing a game where you cant punch people to death.
Luke Peterson
You can, with the blood punch you spastic
Easton Williams
>can't punch people do death >is a core mechanic of the game
Play past the first level.
Ethan Cook
Heat blast is so good.
Connor James
I find myself using plasma more than any other guns. It’s so satisfying to get all the fodder out of the way with one blast
Liam Garcia
get better at the game, idiot.
Christopher Clark
plasma is the most useful at clearing the weak demons. leaves them with enough health for glory killing and very ammo efficient
Camden Gray
>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YOU CANT PLAY ON NORMAL
Evan Campbell
The feeling of being an unstoppable juggernaut comes when you get good. And it feels soooo goood. You dont have massive ammounts of hp, but neither do most enemies (if you hit the right spots), so if you play it well you are literally mowing down hundreds of demons on your march trough hell.
Cooper Fisher
show ultra nightmare clear
Liam Howard
Have you ever played Cuphead, by any chance?
Ethan Evans
it's not tracked anywhere but i'm pretty sure i did arc complex's slayer key lobby without damage on nightmare doesn't really matter much when most of the times you take damage you can retake it instantly with flaming hook and belch if you have to glory kill to retake health you probably fucked up bad to take that much
