Does anybody feel like it is too violent? I remember when I was around 5 years old I first got to play Doom on my dads lap as a bonding thting and I loved it, it was kinda creepy but not ultra violent because of the spritework.
I have a 7 year old son now who's really into videogames and he asked me if he could also play Etternal after he saw me beat the ARC Complex a couple of days ago.
Now my girlfriend came to me telling me he's been sleeping worse and having nightmares the last couple of days. I'm 100% certain he's having tthem because of Doom, but he won't admit it because he's afraid he won'tt be allowed to play it anymore and he says he's just dreaming off cliffs and a scary bus, whatever that means.
Anyway, do you feel like there really was a need to make the game so over-the-top gory?
Does anybody feel like it is too violent...

>Does anybody feel like it is too violent?
Nope. It’s all happening to wacky demons all of the time, unlike Mortal Kombat.
>Does anybody feel like it is too violent?
Age rating is there for a reason dumbfuck, you're a shit parent if you can't see that Gore isn't appropriate for a 7 year old.
Why did you think it was appropriate for a seven-year-old child to play an 18+ rated game? Do you think those ratings are just there for decoration?
Keep it like that and youll end up having a daughter.
He is my son not hers. I am taking responsibility, He is not allowed to play anymore doom until He gets older, I was Just wondering if we have crossed some threshold in gore with the new graphical possibilites
The gorier the game gets the more farcical and comical it becomes. Therefore I don't think Doom Eternal is an accurate depiction of carnage at all.
Stabbing a person in GTA 5 looks way more violent and shocking.
Irregardless games have age ratings for a reason and having a seven year old play doom is a bad idea.
No. These games are for adults and most adults can handle this
Because I played OG doom when I Was his age and I came out fine?
That is why I made this thread, Do you feel like the amount of gore that can be rendered now with modern graphics has gone to far
lol what a pussy, my 4 year old plays DOOM and he never had nightmares about it.
Obviously with tech advances in games the graphical fidelity is going to increase, for better and worse. You should have been able to see the difference between little-to-no detail sprites versus high-poly guts and flesh.
If I were you, i'd actually try talking to him about the dreams he's having instead.
>I was Just wondering if we have crossed some threshold in gore with the new graphical possibilites
Most definitely. Realistic depictions of violence (not gore specifically) with modern graphical capabilities, high quality audio and VR can probably make some shocking content.
No. You can see worse on a farm
No, the violence has no impact because everything is cartoony as shit. The designs look more like Warcraft minions than demons from hell.
>someone admits to reproducing on this board and isn't immediately permabanned
This place is not the way I remember it.
I did but He refuses to open up about Them, like I said He Just says random stuff like that he Was in a Bus and Fell of a cliff or that he saw a guitar in the street and when He tried to Grab it He Fell down Into the concrete. I dont know what to Do, He used to confide in his Mother but she passed away two years ago and He it has been Hard on him to open up to me since then
basically one step away from VR fake snuff
I was going to say some retarded 'cuck' meme and stuff but I better reply seriously: I think the damage control you're making is good enough, but you shouldn't have let him play the game in the first place, while I also played Doom when I was in second or third grade the current games are far more explicit now in terms of violence, so yeah, there's a different realm now, and if I had a son or a wife's son I wouldn't let him play modern violent games until he's at least like 12 or 13.
>game is rated mature for extreme Gore
>Here son, watch this
>Splits body open
>Here you go 7 year old, enjoy.
>WHY IS THIS GAME GIVING MY CHILD NIGHTMARES?!?!
You're an out of touch idiot, who probably shouldn't have kids
Completely different poster. Try harder next time
>everything is cartoony as shit
you say this, yet i still find myself turning away from some of the glory kills at times
>spoiler
cheeky cunt
git gud and ur wife's son shut gig gud I watched alien when I was 4 and slept fine
Your a pussy. Get out. This is actually pissing me off now. Train your son to be
*be a man because you sure as shit aren't one.
yes, this m rated game is too violent for a 7 year old, you fucking moron
i hope cps retroactively aborts your child since you should not be allowed to raise one
Hell when I Was 7 I was already really Into Black Sabbath and the Texas Chainsaw Msssacre, I would have loved to play Doom with my dad
>ending a statement with a question
up-speaking female or homosexual detected. please request a paternity test
>He's comparing Alien to an interactive piece of media where your main job is to split faces and disembowel
Retard alert
Yeah gore has got worse but so what? 7 year olds still shouldn't play it. Adults enjoy it and that's what matters.
>He used to confide in his mother when he was 5
Liar detected.
No wonder you're so fucked up. This explains your posts!
>Does anybody feel like it is too violent?
No.
>for a 7 year old
Of course lmao why tf did you let him play it
He fears lack of control of his life, that's why he's helpless in his nightmares
>I know lets take away more choice from a child struggling with a lack of autonomy
Dad of the year
I watched the sopranos when I was 8 and it only fucked me up a little bit. the real problem is giving kids unmonitored internet access, that's what actually really fucked me up and turned me into a degenerate
is your son the guy complaining about the marauders and glory kills every fucking thread?
you should tell your son his mom turned into an imp lol
DOOM was always a mature game. Back then it just couldn't be intimidating and terrifying with goofy 2D sprites, now it can, so don't let your kid play DOOM you fucking retard it says M, it isn't made for 7 year old kids.
i'm not OP, stupid asshole
He struggled against the first hellknight, I dont think Marauders are appropriate for him yet.
So what should I do? Seriously I want to Support him but seven year olds are Not known for being the smartesr.
Same I think a switch was flipped when I saw my first beheading video. But I was like 12 at the time.
user, watch this video all the way through and then you tell me. The violence and blood alone might not be the issue anyway, we as adults might not consider this but the demons themselves are pretty scary looking. Even in a direct comparison to 2016, it's clear that they tried making them more monstrous looking for Eternal
youtube.com
>child says dreams are about something
>no hes lying and doesnt trust me enough to tell me what they are about
>lets punish him
I think you have bigger issues.
Just comfort him and use it as a bonding experience. dont immediately assume hes lying and punish him.
When hes older and actually has real issues it would be better to put yourself in a position where he thinks you can and will support him, rather than thinking he doesn't have anyone.
Doom scared the shitnout of me as a kid. The distant monster grunts, the surprise ambushes when you grab key items, the ... ripping and tearing sound when you were cornered and an Impressive was hitting you with its claws. The first time I saw a hell baron thing I nearly shit my pants. But I played it every day, starting from E1M1, trying to clear it.
Let the boy grow to be a man and play this shitty vibrant meme shooter.
Will somebody PLEASE think of the DEMONS
I barely have started Doom 2016, I guess I'll play Eternal in a couple of years, no rush. I mean, I don't call it the second coming of christ and shit but I don't shit on it and call it garbage like some people in here.
What is the most objective angle about this game anyway?
yep, totally for kids. wholesome, great for the whole family + your wife's son
>the game mentions offhandedly that hell engages in the industrial slaughter and torture of untold trillions
>shows you the machinery, currently idle, that they use to do it
>only get disturbed that doomguy tears apart demons
>imagine imagination as a kid
>pixels art is pretty freaky
>let wifes son play a brutal and gorey game
>son is permanently fucked in the brain
>jason is born
People who aren't shitposters say its a solid 8. A 7 if you hate platforming.
>Do you feel like the amount of gore that can be rendered now with modern graphics has gone to far
It's rated 18+ for a reason. You're at fault entirely not a studio for correctly labeling their game. Fucking retard.
Cool cutscenes, so where is the gameplay?
Good enough in my book. Hell, it's miles better than most AAA modern games, that's for sure. I'm gonna play 2016 at my leisure and Eternal later, thanks for the angle.
To be honest, I did.watch shit like Aliens and Predator but that shit is tame compared to Nu-Doom or hell, any modern M rated gore fest. Classic movie violence is cartoon shit compared to modern games. I'm at the point in DE where I feel
>Okay we get, it's violent.
I'm enjoying the game itself but the gore is mind numbingly off putting. Not because it's there but because it just doesn't stop. This might actually be why the glory kill mechanic may have been a mistake.
If your kid wants to play FPS don't let them play shit where they're killing humanoids. Let the dude play corny shit like Halo, Overwatch, Fortnite, etc. Or let him play older violent games. PS2 and before is amazingly mild. Yeah, certain people let their fucking minds over it, but before the 360 with Gears, it all felt like puppets.
What I'm saying is, buy your kid a Switch and let him play Splatoon like a kid that age should be
>because I played pixel sprite game at his age
Not too far, but too far for you retards to let your kids play them, fuckin mutt.
That might honestly be a good idea
Yeah I will talk to him, I mean I should trust him and try to be someone He can talk to. But I Cant and wont let him play any more DE, even if He really didnt sleep Bad because of it or if he takes it as a punishment, you guys are right in it not being age appropriate
Yeah I think I had those "Yoo I get it, this is violent" moments as well, I Wonder if we really even needed all this hyper realistic gore
A. we don't need any of it.
B. All this should have been obvious if Yas Forumstards understand it. I advise you to make friends with parents slightly older than you
the game virtually has no gore, stop this pathetic shit lol
classic movie violence is the most hardcore violence there is, no cgi, real animals actually dying left and right, extras actually dying
the same can be said of older games, psx had games where you chop off human heads, grind humans into hotdogs for the russian mafia and kick innocent naked women held in tentacle bondage to death
things got more extreme on the ps2, ever played tenchu? soldier of fortune got a ps2 release
it's funny that you single out gears, since that gen and especially gears is probably where videogame violence lost its bite, blood went from being a striking red color to being blobs of jelly that just pop out of characters, rather than bloodstains painting the walls you get a slight smear of raspberry jam on a nearby floor, and most importantly for this thread, none of the enemies are human
practically the only game where the gore felt right since the 360's cursed release is siren: blood curse and maybe ninja gaiden 2
The anons got a point here. Its not restricted but its 18+ for a reason. You dun goofed. Did we cross a line? No, not quite. As said most 18+ can handle this and gore is generally a fairly exaggerated and unrealistic thing in games.
The worst death I saw was new Lara Croft getting impaled in the neck. More realistic and a terrible way to go. So yes to that end graphics has allowed us to reach new thresholds not possible before. Cross the line? Certainly within our boundaries.
Siren had gore? When?
blood curse has pretty detailed and impressive blood mechanics when it comes to how blood spreads, stains and sticks to surfaces, iirc
i did read that maybe the western release was censored, i had the asian version (new translation) so i wouldn't know, from youtube it looks fine though
Ah right. I never could beat either Sirens. It made me feel very uncomfortable. Though one of my best memories was in 1, when you use the old man with the gun. I was pissing myself when taking aim but a groin shot took down a shibito. From then on i always aimed for their groin to kill them.
Can someone post the floppy revenant gif?
