VR chads, have you been enjoying the GOTY?

poorfags need not apply

I'm working on using the Joycons as a positional tracked motion control, I'm still fine tuning everything but It's close to completion.

Halfway through my second playthrough. I hope we get more levels soon.

Just finished it.
I avoided all spoilers on the ending so I'm still flabberghasted at what just happened

What stands out to me most about the game is that it largely didn't actually have to be VR. The level design is a little tighter and the enemies are designed around slow movement but otherwise it could have just been a traditional HL game.

The poorfag tears are about to flood in again.

>no melee
>because there is no melee, if you ever run out of ammo you are soft locked in the game
>only 3 weapons, of which have very limited and useless upgrades (literally no point in taking reflex sight when you unlock laser sight)
>cannot use more than one weapon at a time
>no actual jumping
>no sprinting
>objects in the environment have very limited intractability (ie, lighting a lighter or spraying the can of paint)
>puzzles are a fucking bore and incredibly easy
>very limited physics based puzzles on SOURCE 2 POINT FUCKING 0 ENGINE
>very limited enemy variety
>dumb as rocks enemies that often times won't move when a live grenade is next to them
>ending retcons previous games
>no vehicles you can use
>incredibly linear to the point that the game could have been a ride-the-rails shooter
>not enough resin to upgrade all your weapons
>very small enemy engagements, typically 3-4 enemies
>zombies and antlions are incredibly slow to match your slow speed
>cannot toggle flashlight despite large portions of the game being indoors and dark
>you play as a voiced protagonist in a virtual reality game, breaking immersion
Fuck, how can anyone even pretend like this game was anything above "meh"?

It's been great though after boneworks, I missed being able to run and jump. They should add that as an option.

No doubt there's going to be mods to make it none-vr but I think it would be pretty boring. There's a lot of fun in direct interaction and manually working your guns.

I like it. Continuous turning helped a lot in improving the experience.

I'm not a poorfag and have played through the game myself with an O+. It's just weird how little the game actually takes advantage of VR besides novelty bullshit like marker drawings.

Manually working the guns didn't feel very impressive IMO, you're doing the exact same action every time so what's the difference between fumbling with a magazine and just pressing "r"? The shotgun was kind of cool though

Sounds like you worked very hard on that list. I agree there should have been some melee even if it's hitting things with props.

It's great but now it's over and I'm sad and I want more and HL3 will probably be a faggot ass pancake game made for faggot ass poor queers who suck cocks and fuck men in the ass and come on mens chests

>really hard
no not really, alyx is just trash

Not even the Valve GOTY.

Just practice more. I can do it pretty quick and it feels cool.
> just pressing "r"
Don't do the 'muh efficiency' argument. It's play, not work. Plus with that line of thinking, the best game possible would just be a screen with "press any key to win" on it.

I watched a stream of the gameplay. You nailed every gripe that I had with the game. I have an Index and I don't really have a strong intent to try it.
Boneworks, on the other hand, looks like what a VR HL game should be.

Any one played it on the standard Oculus rift? if so how did it run?

i played it for 9 hours checking every corner and i think i didnt complete not even half the game

Yeah, I'm replaying it on normal now to just fuck around and test out mechanics, hunt for oddities
I didn't even know headcrabs would stick to you because I was tryharding last time
The game looks so fucking good it's like a dream

Honestly the best Half Life game i've played and my best gaming experience since the original Bioshock..

Now if only Bioshock could get the same treatment as Alyx.

Are the combine still bullet sponges on Normal?

It ran fine on my CV1. No issues with the touch controllers for using items.

That's a long way of saying "I am too poor to afford VR".

This game was designed by greg coomer, even have to reiterate the northern star shit 100 times and when you get there

Stuff that took 4 shots to kill now take about 3 (doesn't seem entirely consistent?) so the combine are still pretty tanky.

>I didn't even know headcrabs would stick to you
Like in your face? Dropped.
I don't need to revive my childhood traumas...

I hear you about the melee and jumping/sprinting but the rest just sounds like you expected a different game. They said long back that Alyx is more horror and small scale fights on account of her not being a human tank like Gordon and his suit.

They actually stick to your chest and slash at you with their arms and you have to pull them off while blood goes everywhere
Never occurred to me they were the size of watermelons all this time

Attached: 20200326233323_1.jpg (1492x1491, 365.48K)

Cool, will pick it up then.

>I don't need to revive my childhood traumas...
you mean your birth?

Attached: vagina.png (1151x648, 982.69K)

I want to stick my penis in that.

The jumping is so trivial and barely takes away from the rest of the game. Also you can increase movement speed via console commands.

This shit is gigantic, I hate those things. I played recently through all HL franchise (4free) for the first time and they still scare the shit out of me.
Also barnacles, I can't stand anything that can devour me.

I would vaporize the existence of Lammar if I could. Vore terrifies me.

Attached: Kleiner_holding_lamarr.jpg (888x582, 114.24K)

It's pretty good. I kinda don't get the critical reception, I really don't think it's a 10/10. I would prefer more enemies that are less bullet spongy as opposed what we got. Presumably enemy numbers are because of performance limits, and I wonder if Valve haven't quite got pacing down correctly in VR. They said on some interview that players take longer to get through areas in VR compared to flat screens, but some sections felt too short to me.

>Presumably enemy numbers are because of performance limits
In the final segment they spam enemies at you and their bodies start to pile (float) up
It was the one time in the game where my 2070 started to noticeably chug and I imagine Valve was trying to target relatively lower end machines too

I havent had the chance to play the game yet because im thinking of waiting before my new pc arrives. I dont want to ruin my first experience by having it lag on me.

One thing that confuses me about the ending: Does this mean HL2 Alyx get erased from existence? It seems like the younger Alyx is the one being kept by Gman and the older one just disappeared.

>GOTY
Yikes...

Attached: file.png (732x493, 173.67K)

>I watched a stream
>Here are my gripes

You literally can't make this shit up

There wasn't that many more Combine and the whole fight took place in a very simple looking corridor. Honestly thought that scene could have been left out if not for prepping Alyx's use of the power in the ending.

No, its the same continuity. G-Man simply went back in time (after losing Gordon to Vorts) and set up a trap/trial for Alyx who he was already interested in. Then wiped her memories of their deal until the moment at the end of Ep2 where past-Alyx zaps the advisor through time with vort beams. G-Man then places Ep2 Alyx in stasis.

Times I think I should just leave my copy running all the time, just to fuck with you steam staters

Are you using Index? I have a 1080 and Samsung Odyssey + and I didn't notice any frame drops, but it might be because of a lower refresh rate. That section is also a good example of one that's way too short. Compare that bit to the same section at the end of HL2

There were about as much as they spam you with in the Citadel levels during HL2/Ep1 from my memory of recently playing the games.
The corridor is simple but there's a lot of transparency shit and other stuff going on, lots of physics shit floating around.

here is your (you) you desperately want

This. The ending was just the right amount of closure for episode 2, they nailed it

The gameplay is awesome, I forgot how good single player games could be

Yeah
I thought it was a fine length because one shotting combine never impressed me. In fact I love that they made the combine individually more menacing now, whatever the rationale. They were always badHECU in the past for me.

What about jeff, all the puzzles, the gunplay, the gun upgrades, the gloves, etc.
It could be non vr, but it would be a lot less fun

I think the best thing about it being VR is how Valve were able to change the gameplay around in different segments about it was easy to adapt because you just interact with things directly.

Like how "Jeff" turned a gun game to Amnesia style horror and it still works because you can handle puzzle elements and bottles to throw.

My Issues:

>The pistol and the smg are like the same fucking gun when fully upgraded, one of them shouldve taken on a "sniper" archetype, with the pistol upgrading into a magnum or the SMG being a hand Crossbow like Corvo or something
>Should've been a sniper section, either with Alyx using a combine sniper like EP 1 and 2 or dodging snipers like pretty much every HL game
>Should've had at least one HL1 enemy return, houndeyes or maybe even a guerilla group of Alien Grunts

>Like how "Jeff" turned a gun game to Amnesia style horror and it still works because you can handle puzzle elements and bottles to throw.
I bet frictional could make something real cool with vr

you vrfags memed me into vr, i will try it. i have google cardboard, phone, 2 psmove and an eye. now i need to invest 10 fucking dolars for the second camera AND probably another $15 for that program that emulates vr. holy fuck if this shit dont immerse me i swear to god i will leave 1/10 on metacritics, blaming the game. will report back on wednesday

The supercharged gravity gun in HL2 got used in multiple ways, it's not hard to imagine the gravity gloves having more strength to allow for new puzzles and setpieces. It's kind of a theme for me, there were a few chapters where I wanted more but it felt like the game just dashed through. I don't think I was playing in a rush either.

10/10 I appreciate your sense of comedy

I really enjoyed 3d puzzles, gloves are on par with gravity gun, they turned the most annoying thing about VR - picking things up, and turned it into addicting fun, and of course jeff, i was impressed when i I knocked down one of the bottles and caught it with second hand just in time

probably the most immersive game i've ever played once cost goes down this shit will hit the mainstream

You got the game for "free" but refuse to play it? Over Boneworks of all things?

>I'm gonna use some cheap bullshit
>If I'm not impressed it's everyone else's fault
Save your 10 dollars

yeah its all fun and true

He worked so hard he has it saved and has posted it in multiple threads

kek, vr drones btfo

Given how their games have a lot of physics, it would seem perfect for them.

I hope not, google cardboard fucked up my eyesight for a good half hour plus the shit is uncomfortable and reeks of ...surprise, cardboard.
Google probably cancelled it before the class action lawsuits could really get going.

Are the gloves used for anything besides picking up ammo? I am not too far in, but so far they don’t seem to have much utility

What would be some good VR games to start off with so I can get used to continuous movement? I'd like to play a game or two before jumping into Alyx

Most good VR games aren’t built around continuous movement

kinda sucks there is no melee. I assume they tried it but it just was too dangerous to keep in game. I had hit a wall many times when playing through alyx and I have like 2x2m play space

i dont really care. ill probably kms soon anyway

Imo best ones are SuperHot and Lone Echo, very immersive

unlike other vr games alyx actually does it right and It felt natural the second i tried it, no funny feeling in my stomach whatsoever

I would say you can jump straight into alyx and be fine

I'm new to VR, I'd never used continuous movement before Alyx and I got used to it pretty quickly. Having access to a teleport option is also nice for when you can't take it any more.

no they just think that VR melee suck so bad that their game would also suck

Not really. There's parts where you can pull things to trigger stuff but they're mostly a gravgun-lite for comfort.

Just sign up for coronavirus vaccination testing and buy something nice then

Wow. I just realised that people have posts saved in word documents to copy and paste to 4channel discussions. That's pretty sad.

>got banned for posting Eli getting ADVISED

It's nothing less than catharis for 12 years of waiting.
The madlads did it.
It's what we didn't know we wanted.
