Remember when Game Freak made a Pokemon game that was challenging, had fleshed out characters, mature themes, and a region that had the most diverse climate and geography while still maintaining a consistent proto-cyberpunk aesthetic which ties into the primary story conflict producing a profound and memorable journey?
And then they never did it again.

I was twelve when it came out and even I knew it was an easy game with pretty cliched themes. Was still cool though, but I preferred Soul Silver.

What I want to know is why post gen-6 music has had such shit audio quality. I don't just mean the soundtracks themselves, but it all sounds like they covered a stereo with a pillow.

>any Pokemon game
>challenging

I beat Red when I was 7 years old. They're made for little kids to beat. This complaint is fucking stupid.

Gen 5 is when I bailed on the series. For all the effort they put into story and anime cutscenes (which weren't even all that impressive for a late DS game), it still felt like a rehash of the same game I'd been playing since the gameboy days. I got bored a few gyms in and haven't touched the games since.

Yes. And then B2/W2 pissed it all away because nobody wanted change. From Gen5 onward, it's been nothing but a constant nostalgia fanwank.

are you serious? gen 5 was the biggest, most innovative gen since 2.
>triple battles
>rotation battles
>pokemon world tournament with every fucking champion and gym leader up to that point with decked out meta-relevant teams and decently challenging
>challenge/easy mode options
>can get an alakazam, rotom, some gen 4 legendaries, shiny dratini/gible, etc. in black 2/white 2
>tons of sick new pokemon like jellicent, ferrothorn, excadrill, bisharp, reuniclus, braviary, accelgor, mienshao, volcarona, chandelure
>hardest a mainline pokemon game has ever been, before or after

What are some good rom hack ? Played Gaia and I enjoyed it.

Quads of truth

DId Rijon Adventures ever end up getting finished? I remember playing that a good decade ago

Pic obviously unrelated.

oh and i forgot
>INFINITE TM'S now so you don't have to worry about wasting an earthquake tm on a diglett or something
>medals for doing cool shit like beating the elite four with only one pokemon
>Easy as fuck grinding/ev training thanks to black tower and bracer items.

pic unrelated?

>Pokemon game
>"mature themes"
>"fleshed out characters"

What are you smoking?

This.

>a Pokemon game that was challenging, had fleshed out characters, mature themes
It was only 4 years ago

fuck off back to your board

>triple battles
>rotation battles
Too underused and immediately dropped in the next gen.

>pokemon world tournament with every fucking champion and gym leader up to that point with decked out meta-relevant teams and decently challenging
>can get an alakazam, rotom, some gen 4 legendaries, shiny dratini/gible, etc. in black 2/white 2
Only the beginning of GameFreak realizing that they can sell games solely on nostalgia and not need to innovate.

>challenge/easy mode options
B2/W2 only, which requires you to beat the game to unlock one and then trade data with the other to get both

>hardest a mainline pokemon game has ever been, before or after
Only if you don't know your type chart.

>medals for doing cool shit like beating the elite four with only one pokemon
Achievement systems don't count for fucking shit.

> sumo
> challenging
Die.

>he left the EXP Share on
you first

And despite all those small additions, the main campaign is still mostly 1v1 battles with braindead AI and you still have to collect 8 gym badges, defeat team evil, and defeat the elite 4. I just don't have the patience to sit through that again to unlock a boss rush or hard mode that should have been selectable from the start.

Also, Challenge Mode is a joke. All it does is make Gym Leaders and a few other story-important opponents use one more Pokemon and some hold items. The AI is still dumber than rocks.

thats why i play difficult romhacks, like blaze black or fire red omega. much more fun.

Hell even with the EXP Share USUM can catch you off guard. Great game, and totem bosses were excellent too. Too bad the concept was dropped in SwSh.

>mature themes
>profound journey

The sophistication of Pokemon B/W's story was that of your typical manga or anime. There are way too many philistines who have probably never read a book before who think it was on par with great literature.

It was also the beginning of the end when it came to region linearity and railroading. Interestingly, XY brought it closer back to basics, but Ohmori being brought to the forefront of the mainline games' development was basically the nail in the series' coffin.

What I can praise it for was its production value (156 completely new Pokemon, animations for all 649 in the game, a completely revised engine, excellent work on the sound score, etc.) We will literally never see that again. I dearly miss the passion and exuberance Masuda had in 2010. He's all but dead inside now.

Yeah, and it was the worst game in the series.
I'm glad X/Y and onwards saved the series and made it what it is today.

gen 5 imo is the end of the old pkmn. sad really

gen 5 was when they stopped adding features that pushed the franchise forward and relied on useless fluff instead

I was expecting a 'sike', OP. BW were the beginning of the end for Pokemon and a serious slap in the face after Platinum and HGSS were so fantastic.

even mode dumbed-down gimmicky trash?

/vp/ isnt a containment board faggot. maybe read the rules one day.

delusional as fuck. gen 4 was shitty and slow. 5 redeemed the series, and 6 fucked it up. its been downhill ever since.

Retard.
The games now are ENTERTAINING and FUN, BW was utter trash.

Pokémon died when the main games went 3D

>gen 1-5
devs clearly care and make painstaking efforts to improve the series with each installment
>gen 6
DUD WHAT IF WE GAVE POKeS MEGAS sO EPIC!!!
notice how overcentralizing these new gimmicks are, and how they're tossed aside each gen for a new thing, compared to 1-5 whihc built on top of each other (steel combating OP of psychic, double battles being incorporated into wild battles, etc.)

>6 fucked it up
>PSS
>nonlinear region
>mega evolutions

What the actual fuck are you talking about?

>5hr main story on first playthrough doing all optional side quests.
>Good
No.

gen 4 introduced physical/special split, which was the last time they implemented a feature that made sense and pushed the franchise forward
everything that came after is a gimmick
gen 5 is as much nu-pokemon as gen 6-8

>5 redeemed the series
By removing almost every single advancement the series made in decades?
>Following Pokemon make the games more immersive? Let's get rid of that
>Event legendaries are integrated so they're more than just "go to gamestop, get legendary"? Nah, fuck that
>There's more to do in the form of contests and secret bases? Too much effort, just make some minigames on a website
>Bottom screen has a ton of useful utilities accessible during regular gameplay? Just fuck that shit up, senpai
>The last two gens let you catch almost every single Pokemon? Not important, just leave most of them out
>Console games where your Pokemon battle in full 3D? Outdated, we have shitty tweened sprites and a spastic camera now
>Spinoffs like Mystery Dungeon, Ranger? Just half-ass them

>>Following Pokemon make the games more immersive? Let's get rid of that
that was in one game, dipshit

>being a 2Dfag
Fuck off

>>There's more to do in the form of contests and secret bases? Too much effort, just make some minigames on a website
where was this in gen 4? dont remember it in hgss

This, but post-ironically unironically.
All nu-Pokemon games are the same garbage with cut features and generational gimmicks, but even in this company of amusement park freaks Gen 5 is still the weakest.

Yeah. I do.

Nah fuck those lifeless “animations” shit looks worse than stadium

>All nu-Pokemon games are the same garbage with cut features and generational gimmicks
Wrong.

/vp/ was literally created to contain all the trading generals and gen 5 news/rumors that were flooding Yas Forums

Too bad most of the new Pokemon looked like shit. As shitty as the 3D era games were, they at least gave us way better monster designs like Greninja, Inteleon, and Tsareena.

>Remember when Game Freak made a Pokemon game that was challenging
no?

Attached: 1585265265943.jpg (182x250, 7.18K)

Piss-easy feature to carry forward, they were too lazy to do so. There isn't even a flimsy excuse in defense of it.

Debuted in RSE, expanded in DPPt, cut in BW. Like every other cool feature.
>What's that, having a gen 3 cart in the 2nd slot unlocks cool shit in the main game? Too much work to keep that for gen 5, fuck it

it weirds me out to realize this wasn't the game that introduced braixen and the other two.
really b/w suffer for having starters nobody wants

Gen 5 was the last Pokemon game where they tried.

today i shall remind them

Remember when Reshiram was ruined and forever defiled as a fat autistic scat fetishist's wife?

That looks really good though?

jesus christ. gen 6+ apologists will defend this somehow.

LUBBY CHUDDER
LUBBY CHUDDER
LUBBY CHUDDER
SING WITH ME RESHIRAM
Zekrom was always the cooler one

Nah, retards on the internet don't ruin things for me

They will, pathetic faggots
>M-MUH ANIMATIONS DON'T MATTER

Ohmori is good though.
And Masuda is the best he's been.

Sorry but, the sales show that Sword and Shield is the best game in the franchise.
Grow up boomers.

Zekrom is also the female one if we're going off a yin/yang theme.

Imagination is all that matters when it comes to pokemon.

So not BW? It's also one of the easiest games.

There will always be a new generation of kids who play Pokemon for the first time. And then they will grow out of it.

Yeah, MUH ANIMATIONS DON'T MATTER applies when they're bad in Stadium for some reason.

Attached: animation is hard.webm (1280x720, 2.91M)

>implying that Onix doesn't look better than 3DS/Switch Onix

It doesn't. Also

>Make a game with a "Technology vs Nature" story that puts heavy emphasis on bonding with and treating your pokemon as a friend and partner rather than a random set of numbers for battling
>Remove the ONLY feature in the entire series that for once actually allowed you to interact with your pokemon
GameFreak may be a bunch of completely incompetent idiots, but, holy fuck, Unova was an extra special case of going full retard even for them.

Attached: 1302243403853.png (500x700, 300.24K)

My favorite is when they bitch about Typhlosion not constantly being ablaze, while also praising Stadium's models and animations.

The funniest thing is that every single following Pokemon sprite is in the game. Now i don't remember how getting mons from the Dream World and getting your sleeping partner works, but those that can be caught in the DW use them ingame.

I finished Sword and Shield and the bad guy at the end Rose is weird. Like he doesn't seem evil like all other villains, I can't explain it he wasn't even trying to take over the world

What's his deal?
