Ludwig surpassed him.
Not a single compelling character has been introduced to the lore since Warcraft 3, and all the WC3 characters were either turned into raid bosses, killed off in cinematics (or worse, offscreen).
Except for the elves, every elf character ever is still alive (yes, Sylvanas counts).
I think Garrosh could be an interesting character if blizzard had better writters.
Because he's overrated. Arthas is a much better character than the Lich King.
Because he was introduced and set up in War 3 and Frozen Throne, everything in vanilla and BC led up to him which meant he had tons of presence. Sargeras was a passing background mention and Legion was an "in case of emergency break glass" expansion rather than something that was timed organically and naturally so it was obviously less hyped.
>Every character in WC3 has been used and abused to death in WoW
what's even left after Sylvannas?
>Sargeras was a passing background mention
zoom zoom
Because WoW should've ended with WotLK.
Arthas had two entire campaigns dedicated to him, and his cause was the central plot of both RoC and FT which also led to the state of the world in WoW. Sargeras had maybe 3-4 mentions total in the entire game, even less presence in WoW, and has had a grand total of one piece of official art in the ~15 years of his "existence". Everything about him was intentionally vague so naturally the end result felt like an asspull.
Nobody. The main villain of Shadowlands is an OC, they are telling WC3babs to fuck off as soon as Sylvanas dies or is imprisoned.
Jaina and Thrall :)
Because he was deeply tied into the lore and had been built up from Warcraft 3 and then you spent a large part of vanilla just fighting his minions.
The sad thing about Garrosh is that the good parts everyone remembers him for (like that one scene at the elevator in Thousand Needles) were actually off-character and Blizzard wanted him to be full unga bunga.
because his expac attracted every little kid to the game and it was their first time so they thought afterwards everything else was bad
It's just another fucking Titan.
>source of ICC architecture
What a good excuse to re-use assets again.
How does this character makes any sense when the LK was created by Kil'jaeden?
Worst part it's a retcon because originally Scourge architecture was supposedly copied from the Nerubians. Now it's suddenly Torghast and Maldraxxus.
First it was Kil'jaeden, then it was the Dreadlords, now it turns out Dreadlords either stole the armor and Frostmourne from the Shadowlands, or Dreadlords are actually an offshoot of the Venthyr.
The first raid is a Venthyr castle called Castle Nathria. Sounds like Nathrezim to me.
Legion was the perfect expansion to just end it, why did they had to introduce void lords?
WotLK was the perfect expansion to just end it, why did they had to circlejerk Deathwing?
no i mean they kept pushing sargeras as the big bad so ok now that he's gone we know he wasn't actually the big bad
>every elf character ever is still alive
Kael'Thas is mega-dead. That bullshit in Shadowlands doesn't count.
>they kept pushing sargeras as the big bad
To be fair Old gods are way more evil than Sargeras since WoW. I do agree that these Void Lords dudes are completely unnecessary, but we both know they want more "epic" baddies to keep milking the whales and drones.
>Sargeras was a passing background mention and Legion was an "in case of emergency break glass" expansion
This. Sargeras has been THE Evil since Warcraft 1. He is the endgame. Everything from this point on (Void Lords lol) is just ass-pull power-creep fanfiction.
Kael'Thas is going to be revived by some sort of blizzard faggotry, guaranteed
We’ve literally run out of villains at this point
>Sargeras has been THE Evil since Warcraft 1
I'll swear he wasn't mentioned until WC3.
arthas is when most noped out of warcraft, this dude's character isn't consistent between minor patches
what sucks ass is how old gods could've been the big dick baddies on their own
voidwalkers/lords were introduced as legion fodder, then elaborated as creations of dead naaru; the legion's #1 enemy. that made sense
there was an old god getting summoned in outland, so we knew for years old gods can travel planet to planet without getting shat out into space by the abyss
it's like finding out the alliance was formed to save the world from dwarves
the eye/tomb of sargaras was a big deal in TFT's nelf campaign
Arthas was a literal scooby doo villain in Wotlk.
that xpac was fucking dogshit. they couldnt even get justin gross to voice arthas because blizzard didnt want to pay him
>the eye/tomb of sargaras was a big deal in TFT's nelf campaign
Last time I checked TFT was released after WC3. Again, last time I played WC1 and 2 was more than 2 decades ago, so I don't remember if they mention Sargeras or they named him during WC3 or previous extra materials (RPG or novels),
If I remember correctly, Aegwynn battles and seals the Tomb of Sargeras in one of the lore descriptions in the manual for Warcraft 2.
>Arthas had two entire campaigns dedicated to him
You mean three?
>Sargeras had maybe 3-4 mentions total in the entire game
Heh.
>all the talented writers leave for other things
>Blizzard are left with untalented hacks, minorities and women
>"why is blizzard shit now?"
It's a mystery
Because you knew him since wc3
Played 2 entire campaigns based around him then got the experience the world after he fucked it up
Lodsa build up to him unlike other bosses like say, death wing
>then elaborated as creations of dead naaru
Wast that explained in TBC or maybe just hinted?
Anyways, yes, Old Gods were more interesting before making them the pawns of the newest and scarier Big Bad Evil™.
>it's like finding out the alliance was formed to save the world from dwarves
Never trust a big nosed ((((race)))) that loves gold and gems.
That's cool. IIRC he was named in these terrible Knaak books, but I'll swear these were published after WC3. Guess I'd search later for WC1 manual to check if he's named there.
>TFT=/=WC3
alright, well there's fuckall mention of sargaras in vanilla wc3 IMS I'll give you that. but the tomb was in wc2

N’zoth could’ve been a fantastic endboss if they didn’t waste him in a desperate attempt to save BFA
Because he was culmination of the WC3 story that had been building for a decade in conjunction with him being the last boss of the last expansion made by the original team.
>talented writers
>Blizzard
kek
>4th "le lovecraftian ripoff" boss
>fantastic endboss
At best a serviceable endboss.
REMEMBER ICC?
Saurfang is pretty loved universally, the lo'gosh comics were pretty good imo.
>How come no end game xpac boss can live up to him?
So fucking gay, imo they should do something with bolvar but not him getting btfo by sylvanas outta nowhere and retconning half of wrath, aaah soo gay i hate being a lorefag now because the deprunning appeals to me since i'm a pvp cunt and wow arenas were pretty good in wrath - mop aaa nooo
Bolvar is going to be the Khadgar of the Shadowlands expansion, and he'll probably take the Jailer's place in some way at the end after having reforged the Helm.
>i hate being a lorefag now
>now
How? I gave Blizz more leeway with vanilla WoW (long in development, etc) but after all TBC retcons I couldn't give a shit anymore.
i don't think the shadowlands ever deserved their own expansion, but as blizzard doesn't want wow to end they can't do a void expansion i guess, not gonna start theoryzing but they had much more material and a already existant threat there the voids lords they coulda used void elves and ethereals.
Garrosh did nothing wrong. Best chief actually.
Because i'm a wrathbaby, i liked most stuff til mop too.
writing is the main reason i cant play retail
its just unbearable to the point it ruins the other 99% of the game for me, it'd be better if all the main plot was removed and we were just given locations to grind in
faggot
Yeah, Shadowlands feels like another filler expansion drawing on WotLK nostalgia and Sylvanas fanboys, to stretch the game's life until the Void stuff set up in Legion.
Then again, who knows how it'll turn out. MoP expanded on a meme character from Warcraft 3 and an April Fools joke and it had some of the best worldbuilding of all expansions, Pandaria was far better than anyone thought it would be. Maybe Shadowlands will turn out the same.
The art team always does a good job, and the self-contained writing of zone leveling stories can be great at times, WoW's main problem has always been the "main" storyline, because it per definition requires idiot plots to keep the faction conflict going and introduce/bring back big bads.
would literally be better if they accepted their fate as a fucking soulless themepark
but blizzard is too stubborn and needs to make WoW lore canon despite being spin off material
n'zoth was basically the last character to have been built up for more than one expac, having existed since cata, and blizz dropped the ball extremely hard with him
there aren't any other big bads in the works so nothing can actually have any impact
see: shadowlands pulling the new villain out of blizzard's collective ass
Agreed mop was pretty great, pvp arenas were at their best and i miss them.
there was bolvar and look what they did to him
I mean void lords and their armies have been hinted at since Dimensius the All Devouring way back in TBC.
Apparently the ethereals have been at war with them for some time.
Void lords at the time were just the bigger void walkers not the father of the old gods, that came with chronicles 1 i think
These were "dead" naaru tho, not the greatest evil masterminds behind the old gods.
oh fuck i forgot about bolvar
Azshara should have been the end boss of BFA, she deserved better than to be a comical cartoon mid-expac boss, just like N'zoth deserved an entire black empire expac
but I don't expect blizzard to ever execute anything correctly anymore
at least FF14 still delivers arc-ending bosses that feel as epic as confronting the likes of Arthas

He was a good character. He had a vision for the horde and took action. He commited war crimes, just like Arthas, in pursuit of his vision. He's a representation of the warmonger orcs with clan-based traditions corrupted by Kil'Jaedan. Thrall is the fucking anomaly in all this as he's basically a green-skinned human.
Also unpopular opinion: Sylvanas is no different. Her goal is difficult to accept because the Forsaken have been fucked since conception as an intelligent, undead race. If she was in the spotlight instead of hiding in caves, claiming val'kyr, it would be easier to accept.
