To Larry's mind, Lee helping him, or finding a way out of there was just him trying to save his own ass. Saving the rest was just a side effect. It's perfectly reasonable to still distrust him.
If it were the zombie apocalypse and the people I was stuck with had one convict I would not trust him in the slightest at the beginning until he proves that he's not a bad person. Notice how after that whole shitshow happened and they spent a few weeks (months?) together, Larry still did not like him but he didn't actively try to get him killed either.

This. There was something about him that had this layer of authenticity to him.
He seemed to act level headed when most character had fallen into the typical 'oh no the world has ended what am I gunna do? " behaviors. It's like he already came to terms that the world had ended and just wanted to pick up the pieces and ride it out.
