Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Min Min, Kid Cobra, Ninjara, Dr. Coyle, Lola and Springtron all share similar enough body plans that they can share animations and hitboxes.

I get that there characters that also have mii costumes, but how on earth does it mean that a mii costume has more chance of being a character?

When has that ever stopped them? The real issue is probably that they didn't have enough footage to show because of covid-19 delaying the trailer. At least they had enough foresight to announce it was ARMS so we don't end up with another Byleth where everyone becomes disappointed all at once.
