Do you prefer character designs to be more realistic? As much as I hate excessive belts, plastic swords and unnecessary ornaments I think at the very least they take advantage of the fantasy medium. Sure, realistic down to earth designs are less cringe, but at that point why even play a JRPG in the first place? There's also the problem that most 3D games can't replicate the anime shading and expressions very well.
JRPG Aesthetics
Let me show you why you're a fucking retard OP.
Here's a good, clean, simple design. Pleasing to look at and believable.
Now lets look at a character created for RETARDS
If you want realistic walk the fuck outside faggot. It's a video game not real life
I like his design. It has grown on me, especially since it always gets paraded as a negative example for jrpg designs. It also helps that his game was pretty fun.
Who is this thot?
chicken
I just don't understand. It must be actively more difficult to create a character like this, especially if you ever need to draw them or make significant changes to certain attributes during a story.
Peak JRPG aesthetic would be mainline Dragon Quest designs.
Another good example were Kanekos designs for the Megami Tensei series.
Also pre nomura Final Fantasies were good.
Which of these girls have a black boyfriend?
Bad artists uses complexity to cover up their lack of design principle
Not saying that complex design = always bad, but you know one when you see one most of the time
you
Not OP, but I don't want realistic, I want grounded.
I fucking hate shit like this and it really put me off tactics after the first, which had really great designs.
Overly generic elf archer type design. Should've picked a more creative example of a simple but pleasing design.
That's clean and simple and believable yes but that's kinda generic don't you think?
The first image that came to my mind when I think of "anime elf archer" is literally just more or less that pic
I can explicitly remember how every design from the game looks because they are all very distinct. It's a great design.
All the rest of them are too. I can even remember the men
Another good design for anime elf.
pretty much EVERYTHING nipon elf comes back to her. Deedlit started the elves fever.
God I love this artist.
>armpit peek
>difficult
It's actively more difficult to make a 3 cylinder Geo Metro go 90mph uphill in first gear. Difficult doesn't mean 'better'.
Beyond that how difficult would it be to listen to a 10 year old spout off about some donut steal OP tier character design?
>his huge sword is chained together and he has elbow shields!
>Give him like 3 belts and suspenders!
>a torn up tartan covered in trophies like a uh.... uh lady bug and 4 leaf clover and magical book
What do you want for colors?
>Red blue yellow green brown bronze silver black
Source on the artist?
Pretty much every American mech until Pacific Rim.
I wouldn't say I prefer them to be "realistic" but the absurdly complex JRPG designs are a turn off.
Think you mean after Pacific rim.
I LOVE POKEMON CUTE AND FUNNY
The word you're looking for is ITT
it's "grounded"
I can remember what Gispy Danger looks like. A Transformer is just a mess of cables.
I'm not really into realism, but elegance is important. Too many accessories would make the character look gaudy as fuck.
Simple, but iconic character design.
I don't mind a little over the top but shit like , Lulu (FFX), and this cross the line
>iconic
Literally Son Goku with a katana.
I always forget about Transformers and I agree they're trash. I've just always found Western Mechs/mecha to be much more distinct in their identity.
>Aliens 1986
>Star Wars 1980
>Wild Wild West's Steampunk Spider in the 90's
Meanwhile there's a lot of overlap in design from the east in that I couldn't discern a Zone of Enders from a Gundam
What is this variant of Goku called?
At least he's got a sidearm for his greatsword.
>Do you prefer character designs to be more realistic?
No, real life is boring
If this looks like a Gundam to you it's not the designs fault, you are just blind.
>Do you prefer character designs to be more realistic? As much as I hate excessive belts, plastic swords and unnecessary ornaments I think at the very least they take advantage of the fantasy medium
I'm fine with either, as long as the designer did something he/she enjoyed making rather than appealing to masses.
I don't like playing spot the main character and winning. Sobered designs are the best unless everyone in your world is aesthetic and outrageous
when I was a kid I thought Epyon was the coolest looking character of all time
It doesn't have to be realistic. But please, not beltsnzippers unless your character is a '90s mall goth.
People who aren't in to giant robot often say all robots look like Gundams. I've had someone tell me that Mazinger Z looks like a Gundam.
it's funny how none of (You) retards who keep spamming that image even know it's context. It's not the character's actual design you absolute brainlets, pic related is, and it's a perfectly fine, minimalistic design.
The pic you posted is literally just a 'what if' compilation if the character acquired overthetop shit from the game.
also the so called "pizzacutter" he is holdin there particularly is a Judge Sword, it's supposed to look like some crystal-executioner weapon, and it's something you can't even acquire in the game, it's just legendary shit, there is just artworks of the characters holding it
I hate how FFTA is constantly used as the biggest "why jrpgs have shit designs" by retards who just shitpost with out of context shit. This game has perfectly solid art direction
>pic related as is, is minimalistic
No it's not.
did somebody say pizza cutter
brrr haha
Chang's Law
user doesn't understand because implementing everything about that design must be more difficult even though it's shittier than a simpler one
Female MC from Pokemon Sun and Moon
Artists have talent but most of the time don't know what to do with their power, it's a shame. So much potential lost for an unfunny gag.
What potential? To see her raped by a duck?
WotL tried to subdue it and it stick looks tacky.
Fantasy weapon and clothing for a fantasy world. Why are NPCs incapable of suspending their disbelief?
You don't want to see her be raped by a duck?
Because to them everything has to be realistic or it's shit
people who werent raised on shonen anime sometimes cant immediately accept a character pulling out an overly large sword and taking out a whole group with overly stylized hits depicted as too fast to react to. Its a specific flavor of fiction that not everyone has been predisposed to get into
But these same people have no problems with stuff like capeshit and Transformers, or just a random white or black dude beating a whole room of armed thugs with just karate.
I prefer max coom designs
Such as?
1. Yes.
2. Cause it might be good at other elements.
That's just a schoolgirl with a scythe. Bottom tier coom
