That would be bad. Melia is such a great character because of the way that she powers through all the suffering, and losing the Shulkbowl is one of the things that clues players in to pay more attention to how much her life sucks.

Having said that, I'd pick Melia every time if they make it an option.

You never really choose anyone in XC2. Xenoblade games don't let you romance, it's not in Takahashi's DNA. If one want such choices, waifugames like Persona or DQ allow it.

I think everything points out to XC2. You already have Alvis getting its Zohar crystal, then the suspicious dimensional rift, then the title Future Connected that couldn't spill more beans, and then also this.
So far, every theory turned out to be true, what I'm really wondering is what happens next, as it's a clear setup for XC3.

The internet is not real life. Anyone actively involved in online discussion, especially since the Chuggaaconroy Let's Play, has probably seen more "poor Melia" than any other topic.

But before then, that discussion wasn't nearly as prominent. And if you look at a lot of people joining the conversation for the first time, they didn't realize the extent of it. Even a lot of people who know it's a thing missed a lot of the events that make it a thing (e.g. I never see anybody else bring up her four bodyguards being her only friends, and dying before the party even meets her).

I want people to pick up on Melia's miserable life, and the fact that she just powers through it, all on their own. And I think the new expressiveness can help with that a lot.

I'm not question the theory itself, I think it's pretty obvious they'll add something similiar to XBC2s reference, but I highly doubt it's a "clear setup" for XC3, you enter the combat challenges through a dimensional rift aswell. It's probably just the entry point to the DLC, similiar to Artoria of the Abyss. Atleast that sounds more reasonable to me than a convenient confirmation of multiple fan theories
