Shadow's ending against Mephiles was the highlight of the game.

His characterization was okay. Nothing stellar but wasn’t horrible either. Pretty unremarkable.
And his master plan was convulted as fuck and overly retarded. He sends Silver on that wild goose chase and goads Shadow the entire story for literally no reason just to shoot Sonic in the back with a beam.
That being said he wasn’t as one dimensional as Infinite or as bad of a snore fest as fucking Zavok, so that counts for something. I’d like to see Mephiles come back under more competent direction, he was a promising character.

Shadow being sent to the past is what causes Solaris to be split into Iblis and Mephiles. Mephiles uses his shadow powers to copy Shadow's shadow to ensure he would always remember him, as Mephiles had no idea if he would ever see him again and wanted to ensure revenge if he did. Chances are, Mephiles was prepared to wait centuries. Not only did Shadow imprison Mephiles into that sceptor statue thing, but he also let Iblis get away.
By the time Mephiles escapes the sceptor, Iblis has grown too powerful for Mephiles to re-fuse with it, and Mephiles proceeds to throw tantrums for like 200 years until he finds Shadow has also been imprisoned (in that GUN stasis thing) and decides to go back in time where both Iblis and Shadow were active, both to kill Shadow and rejoin Iblis to become Solaris.
The only issue is, when did Mephiles get the ability to travel through time and why didn't he use it earlier?
