Do you prefer to play on emulators or on old hardware?
Do you prefer to play on emulators or on old hardware?
I prefer playing the original version of the game, which means the Japanese first release (not ports or remakes), on original hardware which means the original console and a CRT
The first print of the game too, I assume.
Depends. I prefer emulating anything before 5th gen and arcade games. 5th gen and later I'd rather play on original hardware.
If I have the means to. Fuck grognards who think you need to spend thousands of dollars so that Mario jumps slightly more accurately.
Yeah, I don’t buy the PSOne books or “The Best” stuff I want the original one. I’m not at all interested in playing the western version of a game unless it’s originally from the west like Spyro or something
I'd honestly prefer original hardware, but that's a pita so I just emulate.
Old Hardware when possible, Emulators when I'm lazy and/or don't own it.
I don't understand why emulator is a zoomer meme
I already play with them back when I still use windows 98
emulating isn't strictly a zoomer thing
Original hardware is cool and all but not when you're paying 80-100$ per game because of scalper shitbags.
I'll stick to emulators.
It’s not a zoomer thing but it’s a normalfag thing, I always saw the Jews with their MacBooks playing Mario world on an emulator in class. It wasn’t even the original version it was the Seppo one
this is a léddit meme now.
posting this you're associating with that site and you must now return from whence you came.
Why not both together like a true 90s chad
Yeah modern games are expensive, but retro stuff rarely reaches prices that high, most CIB Famicom and Super Famicom stuff averages 500円 to 1000円, PS1 stuff is like 200円
>What do you mean you used an emulated version with an English translation patch instead of learning Japanese and buying a Japanese console to play the game on it's original hardware
>both
hey bro why stop at both, we can do even more
we can do software emulation sure, but what about fpga hardware emulation too, and then of course the real deal, maybe even the real deal with some modifications for modern output support
>tfw Segagaga translation never ever
>Want to play MMX4 again
>Own the physical disk and a PS1
>Thought it would work, but it wouldn't read
>After trying to make it work, just say fuck it and download an ISO to play on an Emulator and a connected DS3
Happened earlier this week to me. Old hardware isn't always reliable to work. That's why keeping things alive through Emulators and Archiving is so important. How many games nowadays can't even be played because of an always online function? Hell you can't even play the original version of Fortnite anymore if you liked that more.
So many games are just lost to time and never able to be played again.
Yeah but they're still more than 0
Damn OP thanks for upgrading my image from a few threads ago, all I bothered with was some text. Now we just need the CRT autist to show up again with the same 5 images to shit the thread up.
Isn't Homebrew Channel for the Wii, which is a CRT console?
I prefer emulation, because then I have everything set up in one system and I can access to anything with a few clicks. Not to mention performance and graphical upgrades if there are some available for certain games, specially 6th gen onwards.
Just take care of your stuff, I’ve never had a game break on me
500円 is pocket change, if you don’t want the box just buy the loose cart
Jokes on you I play on emulators before LCD even a thing
>pcsx2
I thought I did. I don't know if there was something wrong with the PS1 or the Disk. I doubt it was the disk since it still looks pretty clean and no scratches.
>emulators or on old hardware
for me? flashcard on original hardware
i don't understand why i would even bother buying an older console when i have a pc capable of running every overwhelmingly stable emulator. It's just more convenient and it's close enough to the same exact experience for me to enjoy it and feel like I am still playing the game. plus it's all free
>lmao just don't break your stuff
Electronics have a finite lifespan. There's literally nothing you can do about that, no matter how careful you are. Some units break sooner, some others can last for many years, you can't predict those things.
Emulating Persona 3 on switch right now. Fuck old hardware bois.
I like the way old games look on a CRT so I have a Wii hooked up to one. Emulation is still preferred though.
What you CAN predict, however, is that every single one of them will cease to function at some point, and that's when emulation software comes in handy.
Emulation, if I really love a game then I'll buy a physical copy.
I really hope this is a shitpost.
>no video game reviews outsides of magazines or word of mouth
>if you didn't have a friend to borrow from you at least had to rent
Boomers were unironically the biggest consoomers.
same but on phone
>Not emulating while also having a massive physical collection
36' CRT with hacked wii, ps2, xbox, 360 dreamcast, ps3 all plugged and PC for good measure.
Original hardware w/pirated games is the correct choice.
>he doesn't own original hardware and a flashcard or a way to play cd backups so he can have both the accuracy of real hardware and the convenience of having access to every game in a console's library without giving money to jewish sellers
ISHYGDDT
Most people don’t own workstations anymore, the day the iPad came out I got rid of my workstation.
Why would I sit at a desk to use the internet when I can relax in bed?
I’ve got Famicom games nearing 40 years old that still work
I never shitpost
>flashcarts
>injecting roms into consoles with backwards compatibility(ps3/wiiu/wii/)
>hacking in support for running games off a hard drive
>using x-link kai to play old games online on original hardware
>owning an ossc/framemeister
In the past few years I've beaten many games using emulators. Just to name a few:
>BotW
>Alundra
>Sly 2
>Mario Kart 8
>Monster World IV
>Ace Combat 4 and 5
>Metroid Prime
>F-Zero GX
>Banjo-Tooie
>Paper Mario
>Perfect Dark
>EarthBound
Emulation is a fucking godsend
Rangeban wojaks already for numerous rule violations like avatarfagging, low quality, spam and underaged.
>Jewish sellers
I just go to thrift shops, I don’t bother with eBay kikes
Wojak is such a worthless meme. Fuck wojak and fuck cancerous euroshits for bringing it here.
Emulators but only for convenience. I own many of the consoles from the NES onward, I don't want to hook those all up to my TV with a bunch of input switches and nonsense.
But real hardware does make a difference, if nothing else just for input. For example, I plugged a real N64 controller into an emulator via the Raphnet adapter. It was significantly better than even the same controller on a shitty adapter. It felt like the real deal. On a real N64 I wouldn't have had to bother with a better adapter.
old hardware
I play ps1 games on emulators but at native resolution
I have a softmodded ps2 and play all of them on original hardware (which also works with patched versions)
I almost never buy used games
I either buy new or pirate stuff if i can't buy
This, old hardware + flashcards is the way to go.
Always emulate.
I play flashcarts and burned discs on real hardware.
A Famicom everdrive is $175, buying loose Famicom carts is like a toonie to $5 on average, CIB stuff is like $5 to $10 on average.
It’s not really worth it
Original hardware is ideal, but in most cases the difference isn't big enough to justify the cost and effort, and even when it is a big difference my backlog is huge so I can afford to wait until the emulator improves.
emulators on old hardware
Any form of emulation is cancer. You might as well watch a black man fuck your wife
Why is it always zoomers getting mad about people emulating Nintendo instead of buying the game for the 5th time though?
Why the fuck would you spend that on an everdrive? There are tons of clones for under $50 or less that pretty much play everything.
Yep, this is it
Emulators. They're too damn convenient and I'm tired of repairing or replacing controllers, consoles and CRTs.
Composite and s-video look like shit, and component isn't that far off from a modern display.
I do like playing handheld games on the original system. I love my GBA SP and DS games are awkward to play on anything else. Game Gears suck though.
They do but they have shitty sound or colors or both. Most can't play castlevania 3 either.
I don't want to spend more money on old hardware so I prefer emulation. Fortunately, I had no issues running the games I wanted to play.
I had a good time with my custom firmware psp 1001 and ds with flashcard. They were both gifts though.
depends on the game and the console.
Remasters
They're two different things, imho.
For nostalgia, original hardware (including display technology).
To actually enjoy the game, emulation.
If I can, yeah. But I'm not gonna go hunting for an original console and fork cash out the ass to play games like EB or learn a different language to play Mother 3
>In the past few years I've beaten many games using emulators
>Ace Combat 4 and 5
You poor son of a bitch. I envy your ability to deal with PCSX2's bullshit.
AC5 emulates pretty well, though.
Old hardware would be preferable.
I use emulation to sample from games I don't know much about, but if I plan on beating something I tend to have more success sticking to it if it's for real.
There's exceptions though.
Hardware is unreliable. The power supplies burn out, the cords break, the lasers stop working, the save batteries run dry, the discs rot away, you can lose everything if asn accident occurs or it gets stolen. Why bother?
I'll stick to emulation. Sometimes I'd rather play on hardware, but the pros outweigh the cons in my book.
1000*
Both depending if I care about the console or if the emulation is spotty like PS2
Anyone notice emulator sites are getting taken down?
>PCSX2's bullshit
The PS2 AC games all emulate just fine with the right settings. AC04 still has a few visual glitches like the black texture for the player aircraft but 5 and zero are almost perfect.
Especially if you're using the no-interlacing patches and a higher internal resolution, they look much better than original hardware.
I don't want to go to jail so no emulators for me.
Remasters are usually just a way to jew console owners.
