Its 2020, most professionals realize what cursive is, just a way to make possibly illegible handwriting for others. There was actually a great deal of malpractice suits aimed at doctors who had written prescriptions for nurses in illegible text resulting in many patients receiving incorrect dosages of drugs.

It's really pretty average. But I guess since schools don't teach it anymore the bar is lower.

Wrong, that was only the original version. The passed version was amended (thanks based Sen. Hawley) to give it to everyone who filed a tax return and/or gets social security (you can file a tax return even if you didn't earn anything). The only exceptions are children or people who are claimed as dependents, but parents get an extra $500 for each child.

Several reasons,
1st of course is it was before typing so was basically different font people had to be used for formal stuff.
2nd was that quills had lots of issues such as splattering or breaking upon pressing down so not lifting them off the paper mitigated that.
3rd it was believed that cursive was faster which was important before printers or even the printing press.
4th it was seen as a sign of status, anyone could do some lines but cursive took practice and the better your cursive generally meant the more education and time doing "official" shit you had. This is probably the main reasons boomers and grandma's drilled it in so hard because to them if you didn't have good cursive then you were a lesser person.

There's other reasons too but those are the main ones.
