just turn them off lol
just kill yourself (in game)
Call me crazy but I honestly prefer DOOM 2016. Played it today even.
>eternal is basically the same game but with worse additions
>gay boss characters
>prometheans from halo
>loads of dumb lore
>Boeing hub areas, fuck having hub areas
>big time gap between this game and last, no direct continuation of story
>loads of weird plot shoved in without warning
>way too much platforming
>checkpoint based save point
>extra lives don't refill when you load a checkpoint after death
What's the fucking point?
you can't though, you can turn the HUD element off but they're still there
>7up product placement
what the fuck were they thinking?
And even with all that its still better than 2016.
BING BING 1UP WAHOO
"DUDE, JUST GO ON JOE ROGAN, WE'LL SELL COPIES"
You aren't crazy or wrong, 2016 is significantly better in every way. Eternal is shit and a huge disappointment and it has no content.
Hugo playing too much turok 1. kinda good game but fucking retarded design wise.
>bingshit in ZOOM
lmao how did it get this bad?
Worst addition is platforming, not the 1up.
HUUR MY SERIOUS & REALISTIC DUM
Just don't pick it up then
fucking hate the art in this game. Seriously, why the fuck is every weapon more than half the size of the screen. Can't see shit.
>He doesn't play on Ultra Nightmare
That's not the Marauder
>Worst addition
It's the most worthless addition, not the worst. The invisible walls literally fucking everywhere are the worst addition to the game.
2videogamey4me
>7UP
I didn't realize the game had a soda deal.
>1UP?!
Are the memes/reviews correct? Doom Eternal is just arcade mode?
You say that like any of the additions and changes are good. This game sucks and is seriously disappointing.
That's not the ammo cap.
Not crazy at all. Eternal isn't a proper sequel to 2016, it's more like a weird spinoff game. It takes the mechanics that had nothing wrong with them and swaps them for something completely different.
>>eternal is basically the same game but with worse additions
False
>>gay boss characters
Sexuality is never touched up on in game
>>prometheans from halo
Proof?
>>loads of dumb lore
It's a doom game, lore has always been retarded
>>Boeing hub areas, fuck having hub areas
Can be disabled in options
>>big time gap between this game and last, no direct continuation of story
Who gives a shit about story in a DOOM game
>>loads of weird plot shoved in without warning
doesnt matter
>>way too much platforming
Like the OG Doom games.
Honesly, the 1-ups are weird
They're not really extra lives they're more like E-Tanks or Zelda fairies.
They're a reward for exploration that gives you a health boost in combat.
I feel like if they just called them "Energy Tanks" or something no one would care.
Everyone's stuck on the fact that it's a big video game ass head with a 1-UP on it and not really much else.
Same difference. All they serve to do is take all the tension out of fights.
I agree. Shame too. I felt 2016 was id coming back to its roots but they were clearly a bit cautious so they added stuff like platforming and RPG elements to sort of conform to modern AAA formula. I was hoping they'd see all the response they got and brave even further into its old school rules. Instead they only took the idea of making the enemies look closer to the originals.
I don't understand this sentiment, it can't possibly be cope because Eternal can easily be pirated and it runs better than 2016 on toasters. It's even 60fps on consoles. Is this just puerile shitposting for its own sake?
Just don't pick them up? Or get killed to spend them? Extra lives mode is based
Meant for
I really don't think so, playing on nightmare I think they only helped me survive a fight once.
With how quickly you lose health you can bleed through them pretty fast.
If you use them up you have to replay a fight without them.
It lets you see a fight and prepare for it for your second time through.
They don't give you enough to let you play sloppy and sleep through a fight.
Unless you go back and replay a level and hoard them, which in that case that's on you.
It's not really an extra life since you can die an infinite amount of times and replay it anyways.
It should just be called what it is, which is an energy tank.
you love to see it, Phil's complaints match the ones of Eternal haters hahahaha
youtube.com
>extra lives are bad
>when under normal circumstances you can just go back to checkpoint an infinite number of times
There’s no penalty for death either way.
Why would they refill?
He meant gay as in how much of a faggot you are
Agreed. Eternal made the arena combat worse, which would be okay if they'd actually replaced it with anything instead of just injecting platforming segments between the arenas.
fuck, i geuinely like the combat and the upgrades but the platforming got annoying very fast. it breaks up the flow of the game in retarded ways and instead of the rip and tear feel you end up being lost for 5 minutes jumping off cliffs.
and the whole battle room idea they've been pushing since 3 add to that problem. since the moments in between are so dull and the rooms are over too quickly to appreciate them. i'd enjoy the game more if it was a series of 10 minute deathmatches with a score counter.
>green eyes
>super shotgun
>ballista
>repeat until faggot is dead
marauder is easy
How the fuck are you getting lost? Once you have the mobility upgrades you should be able to hop between battles within like a minute for most maps.
More like the most pointless addition. There are plenty of checkpoints already, additional lives are not necessary.
Given the way they work they're almost like an uncapped health pickup really that carries between stages.
They'd actually be a pretty cool addition if levels had no checkpoints.
that's lame
Isn't that a thing on the highest difficulty? I thought it said something about you having to start over if you die.
>>>way too much platforming
>Like the OG Doom games.
lol what
No, not really. You obviously didn't play the game as 1-ups work great.
I also initially thought that they will be out of place, but with the way the combat in Eternal works, they fit right in.
Nah platforming "puzzles" are way worse.
Everything to do with the Makyrs, from their boss, to their lore, to their art direction, is worse.
No, ultra nightmare requires you to restart the entire game, not just the level. And it has 1ups removed.
Can you explain your thought process behind this? I just recently started; I'm 3 missions in on Nightmare and they feel really out of place to me. I feel like I'm cheating whenever I die with one and I'm just revived.
psst, hey
What if they treat it like a shield power up?
There's an extra lives mode that only game overs you if you run out of lives.
Soul Spheres should have been used for the 1-up pickup instead.
You can like, not pick them up if it bothers you so much.
Ah didn't know about that
But that still restarts the entire game.
Because you'll get revived either way. Be it right there or on a checkpoint. You get the feeling that you suck either way. But 1-ups don't make you restart the fight because of a single dumb mistake. If you don't know how to play a fight you'll burn through your extra lives and will have to start from a checkpoint anyway - then at least you were able to see more of a fight before having to restart it, so in the end, you'll need fewer attempts to beat it.
Eternal severely punishes mistakes and 1-ups serve as a cushion for the player to be eased into those "lessons" so they can actually learn something instead of just being frustrated they just died. If they fail to learn, they'll end up playing without lives either way.
Eternal is already extremely gameified. Random civilian locations full of ammo and combat armor, demons spraying out loot that they had no business carrying, nonsensical jumping puzzles, your personal robot buddy rationing out equipment instead of giving it all to you at the start, being teleported to the start of the level instead of just teleporting where you need to be, demons gladly lowering force fields for you once you win the arena segments. Etc etc. But for some reason 1 ups is where people draw the line.
Don't you need to go out of your way to get them? Just ignore them.
True.
I wish there was a mode that made you lose all your upgrades and restart the level on death.
Maybe even with high score rankings.
Starting the whole game over is too hardcore for me, I'm having a hell of a time on Nightmare difficulty as is.
>a HELL of a time
It'd be cool if an eventual Arcade Mode made you shotgun start every level, and drip-feed specific weapons and upgrades like they did in the E3 demo.
Behold, the same fucking dipshit as last game who repeats the same objectively incorrect bullshit over and over again to justify his buttmad at refusing to adapt to gameplay changes.
hurr just ignore these things that are in the game, even though their presence means the game was designed with their use in mind
This means its really good. I just go with the opposite of what you shit heads say and I have been playing some amazing games.
git gud
That would be wonderful.
They've said they'll be adding additional modes and levels in the future so it's possible it'll make it in.
The floating green pickups in lieu of having weapons placed naturally in levels makes remixes like that a lot simpler, too.
It wasn't, you can either pick them up and have an extra life when you die, or you can stop being a fucking scrub so you won't need them.
If you are so hardcore you don't want to pick up a life then you should be good enough not to need them in the first place.
Really hope Eternal gets mods, it'd be nice to mod out things like the 1-ups, the items physically dropping on glory kills, and some of the god awful hud elements
