they could do it without VR functionality too, from the recent stuff going on with HL Alyx. I really hope mods make a comeback
im curious to see how FULLY MODELED hl2 would be in source 2
No one's going to touch Source 2.
So is porting to this engine easy to do or will it require modders to start from scratch?
Source 2 SDK will be released not soon.
Source 2 map editor will be released pretty soon though, so i'm waiting for Portal 2-tier custom maps.
you arent getting any of that and you know it. total conversion mods have been pretty much dead for over a decade.

By all means, Source 2 basically has everything HL2 base in there, just HL:A is missing the sound and model/texture assets. We just need an SDK and technically speaking you could probably recreate most of these mods 1:1 besides the code and then expand their capabilities.
