1. ‘Throwbacks’ aka low budget trash that just rips off the highs of the SNES games, every character is an archetype, the villain is an asshole with 0 motivation besides “muahahaha I am evil”. Sometimes will have a tiny gimmick thrown in, usually to the combat system but outside of that is just the same game that’s been releasing since DQ
2. Low budget weeb Panty-Quest with the nu-anime art style of super bright pastel colors and cringe optional cutscenes where party members are revealed to have some weird fetish
3. AAA, massive budget sequels which, to be fair, are usually decent games but are almost invariably let downs because of their 10 year development cycle
Pic related is in the #1 category. What the fuck is the point of buying and playing this shit if I already played all the classic JRPGs and played Bravely Default and Bravely Second? JRPG is my favorite genre but the only game I enjoyed from this entire generation was Persona 5. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was trash, XV and KH3 were ok but mainly just letdowns, Octopath Traveler was one of the worst games I’ve ever played,
>Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was trash, XV and KH3 were ok Your shit is all backwards

When you build your entire genre of off ripping off ultima and wizardry and your entire fanbase are manchildren who don't want their games to evolve or do anything that hasn't been done for 30 years then you get a completely stagnant genre.

Show me all of the games that come out with a job/subjob system because I will play them,. FF fucking sucks now because they dropped their best feature outside of spin offs, so I was super excited for the BD games and still am for this. I'm a sucker for good job systems, especially when they come with cute costumes
