Did zoomers really not know who terry was?
Robert Hernandez
Leo Jenkins
Yep
I hate them but I honestly can't blame them
SNK was fucking dead
Nathan Gonzalez
I'm over 20, and I only ever knew Terry cause I've seen KoF and/or Capcom vs SNK cabinets a couple of times, I think it's safe to say zoomers had no clue who he is.
Colton Foster
Had no idea who he was until he was revealed.
Some quick research and I went from "Literally who is this" to "Why wasn't he in sooner" Terry has since become my favorite dlc since it's extremely obvious how much love went into making him.
And he plays like ryu without the pressure-attacks that I could never get used to.
Sebastian Foster
zoomer here, had no idea who he was and after finding out after the reveal I played some of SNK's games and I really liked them so sakurai did his fucking job
and like says SNK totally missed the boat on fighting games for 2 full gens
Samuel Baker
SNK had the most soulful games ever. They deserve to get more recognition and expand their brand.
Thomas Gray
Bankruptcy due to piracy, no developers with 3D experience and having another company trying to force you to close down to take your IPs does that to you.
SNK being bought by a Chinese company is the best thing to happen to them or else they would be stuck making pachinkos.
Dominic Miller
I think it's less age and more "how familiar with fighting games are you".
Gabriel Perry
didn't KoF13 almost kill the company due to just being insanely expensive to produce
Cameron Baker
he's a muscular pokemon trainer
Landon Moore
12 and 13 yeah. They had shit netcode too. Snk is a jobber again.even the kof rip off that has kof chars added uses ggpo for fucks sake
Owen Reyes
let's hope KoFXV gets rollback like garou did and not get horribly mistreated like what happened to the new SamSho
Owen Bennett
I honestly can't blame them. As a boomer, were it not for MAME and Dreamcast, SNK would have been a memory. They just didn't take off in North America and were pretty much dead during the time fighters went into their deep sleep which is when collections would have been coming out for zoomies to try.
Levi Kelly
Pretty much this. There isn't much cross-over with Smash and fighting games so it's not surprising Terry would be met with confusion. Hell, you even had that top melee player calling SamSho a 'literally who' game at one point.
Luis Morris
This, plus where you grew up. 26 year old American who never got into competitive games of any kind here and his reveal was the first time I'd heard of him, and like someone else said I went from "who is this faggot" to "oh shit he's important" with just a few minutes of looking into his game history.
Daniel Barnes
or is he a hot pkmn trainer dad
Nathan Kelly
if GG strive does well its probably the catalyst for every single Japanese fighting game to have rollback in the future. this could've been done with MvCi but that game sold like shit.
Carson Sanchez
Good job lads
I'll buy you a pint when you're old enough and tell you all about Magician Lord
Jaxon James
i think it was just interesting to see the almost opposite reaction when Geese was announced for tekken. the entire stadium was shaking with cheer. while alot of smash players met it with lukewarm reactions at best.
Cameron Price
I got lucky. Older burger here, but there was a skating rink right around the corner from my house in the 90s. Lots of various cabs all on one side of the place. I don't remember what specific title or entry it was at this point (definitely a Fatal Fury one), but kid me had never played a fighting game before and immediately chose Terry since he looked like the coolest motherfucker ever. It's still mind-blowing that he's in Smash.
Aaron Sanchez
>In an interview with Fighters Front Line, Kukino replies that each character took 16~17 months to complete with a team of 10 different designers.
This is in regards to the development of 12. It was pretty crazy and also the reason why that one had such a low roster number.
Isaiah Cook
I was really confused for a second but I forgot in burgurland you can only start drinking at 21 while it's 16 here
Sebastian Robinson
For some reason, zoomers seem to hate the past more than older people do. Zoomers seem to be very ignorant of older things.
Thomas Campbell
not being taught about the past, and acquiring perspective and context for the present is especially allowed by design, nowadays.
Evan Bennett
Where I live and with the crowdIi used to play Smash on the regular? Yes. No one even knew what the fuck SNK was and they immediately started doing that "Ken with a Hat" shit and keep it up to this day. It doesn't stop our best player becoming a Terry main who then branched out into being a beast at KOF '98 (All versions) and KOF XIV though.
Jack Hernandez
lol smash fan detected xD
Mason Morales
I assume most of the people that are in tekken tournaments are boomers or actual FG fans
Christopher Cook
>SNK totally missed the boat on fighting games for 2 full gens
what gens were those
ps3 era got xiii
ps4 era got xiv
ps2 era had stuff like maximum impact
ps1 had a bunch of the neogeo era kof games
Camden Phillips
A huge chunk of the Terry whiners were self-proclaimed "boomers" who adored Banjo, so I believe it's not the retarded "boomer/zoomer" debate, and instead it's just the usual "smashfags don't play video games".
Brayden Morgan
I'm from 92 and I knew his games and series, but not him specifically. Never played 'em.
Kayden Cox
'98 here, I had no idea who he was.
Carter Long
No but then I tried KOF and love it now
Sebastian Wright
zoomers don't even know what's an SNK
Gavin Walker
Played metal slug at the local arcade but never knew about him. SNK was basically dead as I grew up so of course I didn't know him
Fun af to play though
Colton Bailey
Being ignorant doesn't mean hate. They just don't care because there are other things they find more interesting, which is perfectly normal.
Bentley Morris
Outside of knowing who he is, I have never played a King of Fighters game and I'm quite sure most of Yas Forums that's above the age of 28 has either. Most people will say "OH YEAH I REMEMBER THE "ARE YOU OKAY?" and "COME ON!" CATCHPHRASES AND SALTYBET MATCHES!" but outside of that I never cared to actually play the games.
Cooper Smith
i remember being 4 years old trying to convince my mom to let me wear my buttoned up shirts unbuttoned so i can be like terry
Zachary Smith
No I knew who he was but I'm Mexican.
Luke Ward
I knew who he was after seeing cut scenes from kofxiv. my first impressions was that he looked like a truck driver
Gavin Phillips
25 here.I had played and had seen a couple of KoF and SamSho games growing up and at arcades, so I had some familiarity with the character and snk. When he got confirmed I bought KoF98, 2002 and Garou to get to know the character better. I mained Ryu but picked up Terry day 1. I think he's a fine addition to the roster.
Hudson Wright
>Millennial is anyone born before 2000
Sociologist say otherwise with the end date being 94 and to few it being 96.
Asher Baker
Yeah well sociologists are a bunch of worthless hacks who don't know what the fuck they're talking about.
People in their 20s are not playing Fortnite and flossing.
Colton Johnson
they sure are, they're just doing it "ironically"
Thomas Ortiz
>17
MODS GET IN HERE
Jace Evans
I never played KoF but I knew him because of Kajetokun's old video.
Luke Campbell
They were just a lot less relevant during ps3/ps4 era while tekken and street were arguebly more popular
Anthony Taylor
>Magician Lord
ma nigga
Jordan Garcia
I'd heard of the Neo Geo and SNK but had never heard of Fatal Fury beforehand.
Luke Gutierrez
>while tekken and street were arguebly more popular
that has always been the case
Noah Edwards
The CvS games were a wet fucking dream for me, my friends and lots of other fighting game fans. Crazy that Smash is the closest we'll get to another one right now.
Cameron Foster
>no garou look
>stage is missing a few notable characters
Other than that he's pretty damn good
Alexander Lopez
It's more a case of community overlap than age demographics. There is a reason why smash players play smash.
Actual fightan inputs and the skill climb are turn-offs to most people, so they go with the the more casual option. Those people are the majority and never had a constant exposure to fighting games to recognize.
Carter Wilson
what about tekken
Justin Phillips
97 Baby, I only knew about Terry, Geese, and SNK through tertiary means, namely old memes. I had no idea SNK were also the guys behind metal slug, my favorite game I was piss awful at when I was younger.
Terry soundly snatched the spot for favorite DLC fighter from Hero and now I enjoy SamSho and Garou a lot. I wished I had dug into SNK sooner because I'm a lot more comfortable with 4 button fighters.
Josiah Lee
Fuck, my mind absolutely blanked on that, user. Onions Sauce for Geese in that trailer was awesome.
Zachary Sanchez
>onions sauce
gotta love that filter huh
Anthony Long
Smash would be better if they removed characters that aren't relevant anymore such as Captain Falco, Banjo or Ness. These characters won't get new games so I don't see the reason why not replace them with characters from the current generation
Jose Morales
Immediately had a good chuckle.
Aaron Hernandez
If another fighting game rep is in the next pass, who do you want? Personally, I want Spinal.
Camden Hill
Do 30 year old retards actually play snk fighters and know anything about them besides playing for 10 mins against the CPU and then going OOOOH PRETTY SPRITEZ??
Hudson Rivera
I'd really like Kyo or K' even if that seems greedy
Adrian Young
Literally who?
Jack Martinez
I'm 26 and I didn't know who Terry was other than that he was a girl that one time
Robert Ross
I'm patiently waiting for the next Donkey Kong game and hoping my favorite, King K. Rool, has a role.
Luis Cox
Hasn't Retro been working on a mystery game for years that isn't Prime 4?
Leo Brown
Zoomers mostly hear from characters outside of the bubble of Mario/Pokémon/Smash through Smash Discussion itself. That's why Geno is a popular character.
Sakurai talking about your character is often more crucial to their popularity within the Smash fandom than whatever legacy they may have, or impact on the games industry.
There was a time where everyone knew Nintendofags & Smashfags were people that only played a few 1st party games & nothing else, with no curiosity or interest for anything else. While that thought process faded away, I believe it still holds a lot of truth.
Colton Morgan
Sol badguy baybe
I'll also take rock, kazuya or alex
Ethan Long
I remember people talking about Geno even during brawl. Are they also "zoomers"?
Kayden Lewis
I'm out of the loop if that's the case. I'm starting to believe rumors that the next DK game may not be by Retro, which would be disappointing. I'll give it a chance playing regardless if by a new developer. A secret game (DK or otherwise) by Retro would be great.
William Perry
Unironically Taokaka
Christian Smith
Smash is a very anti-zoomer game in general to be honest. The whole point of the game is to evoke boomer nostalgia.
That being said, the Smash that attracts zoomers the most is 4.
Dominic Kelly
>tfw seeing him become the favorite character of all my friends who didn't know who he was
It's an interesting kind of feel
Andrew Mitchell
Nakoruru
Adam Stewart
The iconic event that propelled Geno into a popular character were two things: An interview he held during the time where he specifically mentioned Geno as a character he likes & considers interesting, and Internet Culture with the likes of Rawst Forest & other fan projects that highlighted SMRPG once again.
Any character that's been requested since Brawl is likely still more or less relevant in today's discussion if they're not already in.
Tyler Jackson
Carter Bennett
>when he does that move where he sits on top of his sword and wiggles forward
FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
Joseph Cook
god this would be so sweet, too bad will be stuck with HEADBAND TERRY shitposting if we ever get it.
Lincoln Moore
1998 here
no, i didn't go to the arcades and i'm not a spic
